A Shoulder to cry on
(An alternative ending to the episode where C.D. dies)
It's a rather interesting twist on what might have happened after CD's funeral. Please read and review.
It had been a sad say for all the rangers at Company B headquarters, and at CD's Bar and Grill. They had just buried the owner of the place, former Texas Ranger CD Parker who had died from an apparent heart attack.
As the evening wore on, one by one, the people who came for the reception started to leave. Sydney Cooke, one of the newer rangers sat off by herself. Her partner, Francis Gage seen her and went over to sit down next to her.
"You okay Syd?" Gage asked in a concerned voice. Syd nodded her head as she tried to fight back the tears. "I'm okay Gage. Just can't believe he's gone." Syd said sadly. Gage put a hand on her shoulder. "I know, I can't either. You need a ride home?" Gage asked. Syd nodded her head as the two left.
As Gage drove on into the night, he would glance over at Syd from time to time to see her wipe the tears from her face. "You okay Syd?" Gage would ask, only to get a slight nod. He pulled his car over to the side of the road and stopped. He reached over as he placed his hand on her shoulder. "I've got a shoulder here if you need one to cry on." Gage told her softly.
Without saying a word, Syd slid over next to him and rested her head against his shoulder and cried. He held her tightly, but gently as she continued to release the emotions she had kept bottled up inside throughout the funeral and the reception. Gage continued to hold her as his own tears fell down his face till she had no more tears to shed.
After about 20 minutes, Syd raised her head up as she wiped the tears from her face. "Thanks Gage." Syd replied with a slight smile. "Hey, what are friends for?" Gage said as he drove on over to her place. When they got there, Gage walked Syd up to her door. "Thanks again for bringing me home." Syd told him as they stood there. "My pleasure Syd. Like I said earlier, if you ever need a shoulder to cry on, you know I've always got one available." Gage said as he turned to leave.
"Gage? You don't suppose you got a hug available, do you?" Syd asked. Gage turned around as he walked over to her and held her close to him. The tears once again started falling, only this time, it wasn't tears of sadness from a funeral. But, rather tears of happiness that she finally realized that she had a friend who knew her and was there when she needed a shoulder to cry on.
The end!
