So first of all, if your reading this and know of my other stories, you will understand my love of crossovers. But I will be adamant from the start. There will be no dimensional travel, Alternate universes or those other characters randomly showing up in the middle of a chapter. However, there will be a few references to Natsu Dragneel that is similar to my Dragon of the Cog except he never makes it home. He will live and die on Sera, marry, have kids and so on. This is in terms to growth and the spread of his future ancestors. No magic, nothing like that so if it bugs you that Blake Dragneel in 182 A.E. is one of the first settlers on a new world…or that Aera Dragneel is a Gear Colonel on the planet Anvegad in 333 A.E., read something else. This story will center on the struggles of the Seran's against enemies just as bad as the locust before they even meet the council. Yes, I will have some of Dragneel's future generations rise to prominence such as an admiral or notable scientists exc. But there are plenty of characters to create too along with canon characters for the CC.
As for the COG itself, I will include some light elements from Halo for ship designs and some planetary system names along with unique technologies that only they possess. Yes, they will be able to hold their own against the Turian's down the line, but they won't be some super galactic power. At most, by the time they meet the C.C. probably 6-7 billion seran's will be alive to meet against the unified numbers of the Asari, Salarians, Turians…probably the System Alliance…still not sure about having a second set of humanity yet. Leaning toward yes…
Okay! With that all of the way, this is will be obviously Gears/ Mass Effect. I've had this stewing in my head for…um…YEARS and finally have the gumption to get it rolling.
So…here's my next story!...kinda
'Rising from the Ashes'
Timeline of Seran History
5000 B.E. The Nation of Pelles develops the first voting system using pottery shards
2300 B.E. Several countries begin to form and establish political boundaries across the planet's three main continents. This included Kashkur, Vasgar, Emgazi, and Furlin along the Eastern Central Massif of the Trillin Continent. Gorasnaya established itself to the west along the coasts of the Sorano Ocean.
Ephyra formed as a city state on the south-western tip of Tyrus
2284 B.E. The Ostri Republic is formed along the Eastern Coast of Tyrus with Pelles to the north. The narrow Furlin Sea separates Tyrus and Trillin, becoming a corridor of trade and shipping between several countries.
1010 B.E. Gorasnaya begins to rise in military, economic, and political power.
980 B.E. The Silver Age begins with the construction of Anvil Gate by the Kashkur Empire to block advances of chariot and sword armies from the growing Gorasnayan Empire through the Avengad Pass.
460 B.E. Gorasnaya reaches the zenith of its power. Stretching across several conquered territories and countries, the empire surpasses four hundred million.
336 B.E. The Age of Armageddon begins with the rise of colonialism, exploration, and advancing technologies. Gorasnaya retreats to her original borders as several nations fill the power gap through military conflicts. Wooden Sailing ships and muskets are rapidly replaced by steam, coal, and repeating firearms.
The continents of Tyrus, Trillin, and Savago across the Sorano Ocean are embroiled in warfare resulting in the deaths of millions across several theaters.
248 B.E. Alfred Wrainwright invents the world's first airplane. It is quickly recognized for its military applications.
244 B.E. Edward Stave of the Ostri Republic successfully harnesses electricity. The applications to humanity seem endless as several scientists make rapid discoveries including the lightbulb, telephone, medicine, and oil extraction.
117 B.E. The Era of Silence begins as humanity abandons warfare for diplomacy, culture, and scientific advancement. Global Population surpasses six billion.
113 B.E. Imulsion is accidently discovered by an oil exploration team
109 B.E. Dr. Helen Cooper discovers the Lightmass Process. Turning Imulsion into a viable fuel source.
108 B.E. The Gold Rush begins as several countries harness Imulsion for economic gain.
88 B.E. The United Independent Republics is established by Pelles and the Ostri Republics to mutually protect Imulsion fields. Gorasnaya, The Republic of Lauczi and several other countries quickly join the following year. Sarfuth to the north refuses along with the country of Pesang to the West. Vasgar remains neutral despite being surrounded on three sides by the UIR.
83 B.E. The Coalition of Ordered Governments is established. Tyrus is a founding member along with Sarfuth, Dushin, The South Islands, and Pesang. Dozens of countries soon join either the COG or UIR, forming two power blocs across three continents.
Many nations suddenly found themselves surrounded by hostile countries as tensions begin to rise.
80 B.E. Multiple skirmishes over Imulsion rights explode into full scale warfare between the COG and UIR. The Pendulum Wars begin.
17 B.E. Colonel Hoffman leads the defense of Anvil Gate against Kaskhur military forces.
9 B.E. Adam Fenix leaves frontline service to begin weapons development for the COG
2 B.E. The COG successfully steals the Hammer of Dawn technology during the battle of Aspho Fields. It is a turning point of the war.
0 B.E. The UIR 3rd Fleet attacks COG forces in Bonbourg. Hammer of Dawn is used for the first time, destroying the 3rd fleet with over 30,000 casualties.
UIR forces surrender three weeks later, formally ending the Pendulum Wars. Over 240 million Seran's have perished in the decades long conflict.
Emergence Day occurs six weeks later. 25% of humanity is killed in the first 26 hours of the war with the Locust Horde.
Political borders, cultures, and religious differences are completely ignored by the locust horde. All are killed before them as they advance across the planet in a campaign of genocide.
Pelles falls within two months of the new war.
30th of Bloom 1 A.E. The Ostri Republic falls. Refugees flee toward the coast in hopes of naval evacuation. Fewer than fifty thousand survive.
Chairman Prescott activates the 'Fortification Act' Three days remain to evacuate to the Ephyra Plateau.
33rd of Bloom 1 A.E. The Hammer of Dawn counter-attack begins. 90% of Sera is scorched under orbital fire. Millions of Locust along with untold number of Seran's perish.
5 A.E. An unknown multiversal disturbance pulls Natsu Dragneel, Erza Scarlet, and Mirajane Strauss to Sera. They are found by a COG patrol three days later in the ruins of Jannermont. All three are recruited into the military soon after.
Lima Squad is formed with Samantha Bryne. All four quickly establish themselves as competent soldiers during several missions against the locust.
15 A.E. Delta and Lima Squad are successful in destroying the Rift worm during Operation: Hollowstorm. Unfortunately, Jacinto is lost to flood the locust Hollow in a pyrrhic victory.
17 A.E. The final battle at Azura Island is won by the remaining forces of the COG and UIR. The Locust Horde and Lambent are defeated thanks to the efforts of Delta and Lima squads.
Peace is finally achieved on Sera
A rough estimate puts the surviving population at twenty three million Seran's
19 A.E. Re-establishment of the COG occurs as the sole surviving power. The Pel-Ostri Republic, Gorasnaya, The Kingdom of Savango, and New Sarfuth join with Tyrus in the first bids to unify humanity after its near extinction.
More countries follow in the coming years as Tyrus works with former enemies to rebuild. A balanced COG with former UIR ensures that the new government recognizes all cultures and rights. Equal voices are heard in democratic votes to begin distributing reconstruction efforts.
Repopulation is greatly encouraged by the government.
A surviving cousin of Dominic Santiago is found living among the stranded in Halvo Bay. Marcus Fenix forms a rapport with Alfonso Dominic, bringing the long lost relative and the stranded camp back into the folds of society. Tales of his fallen relative spurs Alfonso to join the Gears and start a family of his own.
54 A.E. Victor Hoffman dies. His remains are entombed along with the greatest Tyran heroes of past ages.
The global population inches closer to sixty million
The National Thrashball League is finally re-established through years of hard work by Augustus Cole and his wife. The ageing veteran lives long enough to see his beloved Hanover Cougars take the field once again with his own son, Ames Cole leading the first victory against the Trinidad Trysters.
75 A.E. Natsu Dragneel passes quietly in his sleep following his three wives. Recognized as one of the locust wars greatest heroes, he is survived by thirteen children, Twenty grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
The Dragneel house starts to rise in prominence. Soldiers, Engineers, and Statesmen begin pushing the family to new heights.
The families of Trescu, Carmine, Baird, Santiago, and Fenix begin establishing themselves as proud and respected bloodlines.
77 A.E. Marcus Fenix suffers a stroke, dying the following day as his wife Anya, their four children, eleven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren attend his funeral mourned by millions.
79 A.E. In his final weeks, Damon Baird lays the groundbreaking formula for the possibility of slipspace travel.
The work is carried on by his grandson, Destin Baird a notable genius in his own right who begins leading a team with notable scientists from New Sarfuth, Savango, Gorasnaya and other countries. Their ultimate goal is to construct a viable FTL drive.
The global population breaks 100 million as families are still encouraged to bear multiple children. This in turn spurns on faster growth in the generations born after the locust war.
Average family size is six to eight children.
Healthy females of birthing age are recognized with high amounts of respect and care, bordering on heroism in their role to repopulate. To harm or purposely endanger an expectant mother borderline's on taboo. The criminal punishments for domestic abuse, sexual assault and rape against women fall within the death penalty.
Reconstruction of cities, towns and communities continues as Sera begins to heal environmentally.
Locust tunnels begin to collapse, causing geological changes to the surface as new rivers, lakes, and valleys form.
Large swaths of the planet begin to experience regrowth in terms of wildlife, flora, and marine life.
A great reef begins to form among the sunken ruins of Jacinto. It would later become a natural wonder preserved under several environmental protective acts.
96 A.E. Orbital industries began to expand under the leadership of the SSN (Seran Space Agency)
Mining enterprises are sent to Risea, probes finding the nearby moon rich in minerals. The moon itself is believed to be a candidate for terraforming. Technologies to begin the process are rapidly brought to the forefront of research.
Construction of humanities first interstellar ship begins in orbit.
98 A.E. Humanity begins to establish a significant presence in orbit with new satellites and the launching of probes to the distant worlds of the Onyx System.
100 A.E. The 'Phoenix' is launched from orbit with a crew of twenty. Coming from all corners of Sera, these twenty men and women represent the dreams of a species as humanity's first interstellar ship.
Current speed is ½ lightyear per day.
Stellar astronomers believe that the binary system of 545-YYG is the best candidate for habitable worlds do due their main sequence stars thirty-three light years away.
Commanders Denbrah Humburt of Pel-Ostri words would become enshrined in history. "We rose from the ashes of war to strive forward into the unknown"
Global population reaches one hundred thirty million. The birth rate continues to climb as more people are available to repopulate.
Fifth of Reap 100 A.E. The Phoenix reaches 545-YYG after two months of travel.
It is a crowning achievement of discovery and exploration for humanity. Two garden worlds locked in orbit with each other while traveling around their main yellow sun and smaller red dwarf await them in 545-YYG.
Closer scans confirm both worlds with small continents, hundreds of island chains, abundant life, and a breathable environment for humanity.
The system is named Azura and thoroughly surveyed before Commander Humburt orders the continuation of their exploration among nearby stellar systems.
101 A.E. The COG establishes the 'Seed Initiative' Its main purpose is to ensure the survivability of humanity in case another near extinction event occurs. The deep rooted fear of another locust type calamity brings the COG to begin orbital construction of its first warships.
Orbital Industries begin construction of colony ships capable of taking twenty-five thousand colonists each to the twin worlds of Azura Prime and Corva.
Applications for berths almost crash the government servers.
103 A.E. Colonists reach Azura Prime and Corva. Humanity has become an interstellar species as the first cities are established. Colonist Blaire Dragneel founds the settlement of Bryneton between the confluence of two notable rivers on the Eastern shore of the equatorial sub-continent, Anno.
Within five years, both planets population's surge past one hundred thousand.
Colonel Alfred Carmine of the 19th Tollen regiment and his command establish the first military presence on the colonies for defense.
Standard Gear equipment has been upgraded in terms of armor strength, rudimentary vac seals, and bio sensors. While still in their infancy and bulkier than locust era armor, the next generations would prove more streamlined and efficient.
The Lancer mk. III is accepted as the standard infantry rifle with an upgraded chainsaw motor and steel/tungsten carbide teeth. Bending and breaking of the lancer's teeth falls 30% over the previous generation of rifle. 5.56 millimeter rounds are still used as the infantry standard.
The first warships are launched with crews of eighty each. Designs represent a rifle as the main weapon is a mass accelerator cannon capable of firing a three pound slug at .9% speed of light every four seconds. Armor is simple along launch bays for fusion tipped missiles.
235 A.E. The population of Sera reaches six hundred million
Risea continues to be terraformed, the first lakes and oceans beginning to form as the atmosphere begins to support rain and inclement weather. Plant and sea life are introduced to begin stabilizing the environment.
Colonies are founded on Belpharus, Nova Gorasnaya, Reach, Harvest, New Vectes, Vasgarniya, Anvengad and Beta Sarfuth across a territory stretching 1,300 lightyears.
Total number of cataloged and surveyed star systems surpass 3,000. However, the vast majority have no planets capable of supporting the tiniest life. High radiation, extreme temperatures of heat or cold, poisonous atmospheres or simple gas giants make up the vast majority of these planets. Orbital habitat facilities for mining, living, and processing are constructed as the wealth of resources is too tempting to ignore.
Larger colonial ships reach berths of 100,000 for new worlds as the Seed Initiative continues.
Orbital habitats and expanding shipyards are established in the far reaches of the Onyx system around the gas giant of Venis. The nearby asteroid belts and gaseous extraction ensure a near never ending supply of raw materials for military ships.
Advances in slipspace engine efficiency pushes travel to thirty light years per day.
Conservation groups push for the protection of all life on human settled worlds. Chairman Akina Aoki pushes the 'Planetary Protection Act' through the senate despite numerous vetoes against her proposal. The new act places a full 35% of all worlds under protection from human development. It is hailed as a crowning achievement for environmentalist's and preservationist groups.
Ships increase in size and destructive power.
Adopted designs essentially build around a hollow lattice that vastly increases survivability. With rapid advances in weapons and technology, this method will save valuable time and money as old armor and systems can be 'switched out' for new upgrades instead of building a new ship from scratch.
It becomes the staple for all future ships, military and civilian.
The first Seran Dreadnaught is launched at 650 meters in length. Notable armaments include a double spinal weapon system that employs the first ship mounted Hammer of Dawn. Its destructive power has increased since the locust war. Coupled with the 'secondary punch' of a ten kilogram slug firing at 1.2 % light speed, it's offensive power is coupled with next generation of fusion tipped missiles. Defensive armors, shields, and anti-missile batteries make the 'Mt. Kadar' the strongest vessel ever fielded by humanity.
The COG approves funding for establishing a fourth space fleet as humanity continues to expand.
The 'Fortification Mandate' is enacted for all worlds. Hammer of Dawn defensive platforms begin construction around every colony.
300-380 A.E. Humanity surpasses one billion in the Onyx system. Total human population reaches 1.3 Billion.
Risea is terraformed. Colonization begins.
Mass migration from Sera begins.
Azura rapidly approaches one hundred fifty million across both worlds.
Many colonies surpass seventy five million.
The COG restructures its political representation to include the growing voices of colonists across Coalition space.
Settlement and expansion continues with newly founded worlds. Oasis, Tri-Ostri, Oceania, Prescott, and Convel are settled, bringing the total count of inhabited worlds to fifteen.
Five systems are recognized for terraforming in Coalition space. The development of planetary engineering technologies greatly increase the speed to bring these worlds to life. Current estimates place habitability within 100-180 years.
Mining companies begin harvesting in dead systems. The first 'planet cracking' crews establish new methods for extraction of valuable minerals.
380 A.E. The total Seran population climbs past 2.2 billion
The next generation of Dreadnaught's are built with heavier armors of Tungsten/Chromium Steel. Its mixture is the strongest alloy to date. Shields are strengthened as continued advances in Slipspace technologies allow more energy from the ship's fusion powerplants. The new designs stretch over a mile in length.
All military ships are upgraded using the new armors.
Seran fleets comprise of 400 ships each. Headed by a Dreadnaught, the fleet is comprised of four 100 ship squadrons headed by a battleship. Heavy Cruisers, Escort Cruisers, and Destroyers make up 95% of each fleet. Repair, Supply, and support ships fill out the remaining five percent.
Plans for carriers and strike craft are developed.
Settlements are established on the worlds of Blaze, Fenix, Gulan, and Aspho
Advances in medicine unlock the 'Genome Treatment' It essentially extends the human life span from 80 years to 150-160 years by slowing down the aging process. The healthy birthing age for Seran women is essentially tripled from twenty years to almost sixty.
Rudimentary A.I. is developed
419 A.E. Humanity reaches 2.7 billion across Coalition Space.
The terraformed world of Ephyra is settled.
The colony on Borra Borea is founded. Settled garden worlds surpass twenty across nearly 1,500 light years.
Total military ships approach 1900

Alright, this is basically a timeline and data sheet. Above is my best representation of COG space. I know, not too exciting, but I'll get the first chapter started tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it done in a week or so.
I'm sorry, the territory I had lined out above doesn't transfer too well from Word. Damn FF. just keeps resetting it everytime I save. Basically it was an oblong circular nation with the mentioned names above in their respective sectors from Sera.
And please don't give me grief about population growth or canon. It's fanfiction. I tried to come up with reasonable numbers for the Seran's. Or….the fact that a few characters from an anime have been thrown into the gene pool. It's something I wanted to do so tough cookies.
Just read it out…review if you'd like. I'll get it started soon.
