"H-ey, Atticus!"

Where the hell did that come from?

Atticus knows her… Wait… that's his… daughter? What is she doing here? With two other boys? This… was not supposed to happen. We were supposed to just get that nigger. Beating up niggers is fine, especially him, since he raped Mayella. But white children… even Negro children… That's just not right. Who harms little children? Monsters. And I'm no monster.

I'm just doing my duty, coming here now. There's honor in that.

"Go home, Jem. Take Scout and Dill home."

That was Atticus. I'm not sure what to make of that man… he's worried about the children, which is good. But he's defending a nigger! Not only did he accept, he's doing it willingly, and now…

Now he's preventing justice.

How can a man of the law be so blind to these things? This nigger-loving fool just doesn't seem to get what's going on – this man is inferior. If inferiors were to have any power… think of what would happen! Our country is based on the intelligence of the people voting! Imagine if niggers, or women – it would be funny if it weren't so scary, were to vote. The entire country would go to the dogs. No, those people can never have power.

Damn nigger. Why is he so calm? We're here to kill him! He doesn't seem to get that. He thinks that the protection of one fool white man, even if it is Ol' One-Shot. I doubt that weakling would even try to shoot us. Right now, anyway, he's busy with his kids. Stubborn little boy… Jem, was it? He has spirit. He'll grow up to be a good man, if his father doesn't pervert him to that womanly, nigger-loving path he's taken.

"I'll send him home!" That was Smith. He's drunker than I thought…

"Don't you touch him!" The little… girl? She's lively. Pretty little thing, if she were dressed up proper. But I've never seen a girl act this way! Everything's backwards in this family. The girl is strong, the son is going against his father, and the father's a weakling nigger-lover…

Sure glad we're not like that. Power in the hands of the wrong people leads to nothing but trouble.

Author's Note: This was originally written for school, but I rather liked it. I love my English teacher. She's really great. Actually, I've loved all of my middle school English teachers, especially those for 7th and 8th grade...

Thank you for reading! Reviews are appreciated, but please don't feel obligated. I like questions, though. (Mindless praise is good, too!)
