I looked in sheer frustration at the fourth attempt at a pie. Its cremated remains mocked me. Holding it tentatively in my hands I stepped towards the door to dispose of it. Turning too hastily I lost my balance and the tin flew from my hands. To my horror it landed on a well-polished shoe emptying the contents on its wearer.

Momentarily frozen in horror, I had hoped to impress James with pie, not have him wear it.

"Oh, I am so sorry, here let me take that." A giggle escaped my lips and I clasped a hand over them.

As he handed the tin to me, the lines around his eyes betrayed an attempt to keep from laughing. "Not the first attempt I take it?" He indicated the side of the walkway where bits of the pie's predecessors lay about.

I shook my head and sighed, " I'm afraid there will be no further attempts."

"Pity, it has been some time since I've had something fresh from the oven," he mused.

"In a way you did." I said pointedly, looking down at his shoes, which were still a mess.

"Indeed."

Unable to contain it any longer we laughed heartily.
