Saru Survived A Year!

As Tenpou sat in his library, flipping through the pages of a book, he happened to hear the slamming of his door, and the constant cursing of a certain blonde. He glanced up to see Konzen storm up to him, and the blonde certainly looked like he was about to strangle Tenpou for….something.

"Ah, Konzen. What can I do for you?" He asked.

"Tenpou, it's today! What am I going to do!" The blonde flung up his hands in desperation. Tenpou cocked his head to the side, not sure of what Konzen was talking about. "Today? You know…when saru came here? When I was forced to take care of him? It was…a year ago today?"

"So what's your point?"

"Hell, you know! A year since saru came here as an infant." Konzen cursed under his breath and eased himself down beside Tenpou.

"A year ago today….oh! You mean that today's his-"

"Yes, today!"

"Hm…well there are a number of things you could do. Presents, balloons, promises to be nice…"

"I'm looking for ideas, not requests for miracles." Konzen narrowed his eyes at the marshal.

"Well, if you want to keep it simple, why not simply throw a party?" Tenpou suggested. Konzen pondered it for a moment and nodded.

"Fine….but you and that idiot general of yours are helping."

"Of course, Konzen."

"So, Ten, tell me again why we're hanging up banners and balloons in your library." Kenren snapped gruffly as he struggled with a banner corner.

"Konzen wanted to throw a party for Goku, and he said we had to help." Tenpou replied, hoisting the other end of the banner up and skillfully pinning it to the ceiling.

"Hm? A party? What for?" Kenren wondered, continuing to fight with the banner.

"Oh, you know, Taisho. It's Goku's…you know."

"Oh, really." Kenren failed and the banner actually smacked him in the face.

"Need some help with that?" Tenpou laughed.

"Konzen, what's the big surprise you're talking about?" Goku whined. "And why do I have to be blindfolded!"

"If you weren't, it wouldn't be a surprise, so pipe down monkey!" Konzen snapped as he led Goku into Tenpou's library.

"Can I take it off now?" Goku asked.

"Not yet." Konzen replied, as he shuffled around in the pitch dark room. Goku heard some more shuffling, which meant more than Konzen and him were in the room.

"Now?" After a long silence, Konze replied,

"….Yeah, you can take the blindfold off now."

Goku tore off the handkerchief, and the world exploded into light, and on a big table was a cake shaped like a sun, yellow frosting and all. He grinned at all the brightly colored balloons, then turned to Konzen.

"What's all this for, Konzen?"

"You." The answer confused Goku in its simplicity. "Look at the cake, saru." Slowly, Goku walked up to the cake, and smiled at the message. He didn't know how to read too well, but that message was painfully clear to him.

Happy birthday, Goku.
