The Alien Hero of Teyvat
Chapter 2 - Hanging out with the Outrider
True to Ben's prediction, his alien transformations shocked spectators. At this point, he anticipated being placed in a luminous green containment tube, hearing more about this world, explaining his situation, and then either gaining new allies or being forced to attempt a break-out of the facility.
What he didn't anticipate was being requested in such a courteous manner to wait inside the waiting area of the headquarters of The Knights of Favonius. Because the knights adhere to a policy of showing no hostility toward outsiders, he found himself in a fortunate position. Which in a way isn't necessarily a bad thing because their headquarters has a cozy, familiar vibe to it and a design that makes him think of Germany.
Apparently, the attack happened when their Acting Grandmaster and Honorary Knight were busy fending off a dragon, and the enemies figured it was a good time to attack. Fortunately, the knights were able to repel them, and his support served just to put the finishing touches on the victory. In reference to the dragon, it was most likely Dvalin, a long-lived dragon who was also a close companion of the Anemo Archon. He had become corrupt and had begun attacking the inhabitants, but owing to the efforts of the two individuals described in the first sentence, they were able to address the situation in a peaceful manner without it leading to bloodshed. It brought back memories for Ben of The Dragon that he had rescued from the Forever Knights.
The Knights of Favonius did talk about Ben, and their discussions centered on how he was able to undergo those transformations and whether or not he could undergo other transformations. On the other hand, they showed him deference and gratitude for his assistance, and they held out the possibility that he may one day become a knight. Swan was the most thankful of them all since Ben had actually helped save his life, and he felt that he owed Ben something.
The one that stood out to Ben was a girl with long, dark brown hair, gold eyes, and fair skin. She wears brown leather shorts, a red hoodie-like top, red stockings, and gold-lined white thigh-high boots. Her accessories include a leather belt with two tiny pouches, her Pyro Vision, gloves, and gold-framed goggles. Her most distinguishing feature is the red bow headband that resembles bunny ears.
It was Outrider Amber reporting for duty! The one and only Outrider of the Knights of Favonius, as well as a three-time winner of the Mondstadt Gliding Championship. She is eager to take on a task of any kind and is constantly on the lookout for ways to overcome it with her relentless tenacity. The things that stuck out to Ben about her were her gregariousness and friendliness, which make her a pleasant person to be around. They talked to each other as if they were already friends.
So far, if Ben is being completely honest, this dimension is doing just fine. It just needs a few more Mr. Smoothy's establishments and Burger Shacks, and then it will be significantly better.
Inside the Knights of Favonius headquarters was an office that belonged to the Acting Grandmaster. Its interior was well-organized and inviting, making it an ideal space for examining the reports that had been submitted by other knights and for recording new information. The room is furnished with a variety of items including a chandelier, carpet, couches, desk, dining table, sword and shield, and a miniature library complete with an antique wall clock.
In this particular room there are currently three prominent knights who are present.
Leaning beside the window was a tall, lean, tanned young man. He has navy-blue hair with lighter blue streaks and a long, flowing lock over his left shoulder. In addition to that, he is wearing a patch over his right eye. He wears a fur-collared cape over a cleavage-revealing white shirt. He wears knee-high boots and dark pants. Lastly, his vision hangs from a brown belt, and he wears a rope that may be for a sword scabbard.
This is Kaeya, the Quartermaster of the Knights of Favonius as well as the Captain of the Cavalry. Even though he seems charming and funny at first glance, people shouldn't let their guard down around him due of this quality. On some level, he is crafty and is able to devise a variety of strategies for gathering information about you.
A woman with pale skin, green eyes, and honey-brown wavy hair made tea at the dining table. She wears a purple and white dress with side slits and gold embroidery, black gloves with purple trim, a witch's hat, black lace stockings, and black high heels. Lastly, she wears a gold necklace with her vision fastened to her garment.
Lisa here, the Knights of Favonius' resident librarian and wise witch. A brilliant and gifted librarian who takes pleasure in acquiring new knowledge. She is in charge of the library, and if you don't return the books on time, you will be held responsible for the most severe punishment possible.
At the table, sitting directly across from Lisa was a tall, athletic, and fair-skinned woman. She has grey-blue eyes and medium-length gold-blonde hair in a bow. Wears a white, blue, black, and red strapless shirt with a blue tailcoat, white sleeves, and a short blue and gold cloak. Her white tights contain gold diamond-dot embroidery, and she's wearing white knee-high boots.
The most revered individual in all of Mondstadt is Jean, who serves as the Acting Grandmaster for the Knights of Favonius. Mondstadt. After the Grandmaster had left for various reasons, she was awarded the post that she had previously held. Jean places a high value on the role that she plays in carrying on Mondstadt's legacy. She will always be there to serve her friendly neighborhood duty, regardless of the assignment that is handed to her, whether it is clearing out Hilichurl camps or rescuing cats from trees.
They had just begun a crucial conversation about the respective responses to the Stormterror incident.
"Jean, how was your fantastic journey to thwart Dvalin? I pray that it wasn't too taxing for you." Lisa asked her friend as she poured some coffee for her and tea for herself.
"It took some energy. But with the help of our Honorary Knight and master Diluc, we were able to put a stop to it peacefully. How about your perspectives on this matter? From what I've seen in the reports, it sounds like you've been quite busy." Jean asked about what she had been absent for while she sipped her cup of coffee.
"To be honest, I was too preoccupied with reading and overseeing the damage report to pay much attention to anything else. We need to fix a lot of roof tiles." Lisa could not help but recall the entirety of the report that Otto had provided to her.
"And I've taken care of the Abyss Order spies who tried to sneak in while everyone was focused on the assault on the front gates. They all follow a single leader known simply as "The Prince."." Kaeya chimed in and provided a brief overview of his findings before moving on. Jean and Lisa were both asking the same thing as the cavalry captain: who exactly is "The Prince," and what might possibly be his identity? However, they have decided to save a more in-depth discussion of it for a later date and instead will concentrate on the issues that are immediately at hand.
"I appreciate everyone's help during this ordeal, especially because I was unable to handle business in the city." Jean smiled warmly at both of them and nodded her head in acknowledgement.
"Do your best to relax about it, Jean. The entire population took their assigned positions and did their utmost to protect the city from the Abyss Order's assault." Lisa reassured her that everything turned out well.
"In addition, Amber claims in her report that we had outside help. To be more specific, someone with apparent shapeshifting abilities." After that, Kaeya gave them the rundown on the report that he was interested in while maintaining an inquisitive smile.
"Shapeshift?" As Jean pondered Kaeya's meaning, she questioned this unexpected backup.
"Our dear Amber tells us that this unknown person can change into a Geovishap-like creature and a being formed of pure fire so hot that people can feel it from far away. My curiosity has me wondering if he can assume the form of a noble and gallant knight." Lisa gave herself a wry smile and began to speculate on the various other forms that the person could take. Even the books that were kept in the restricted area of the library had vague explanations about shapeshifting talents, so it would be intriguing to learn more about them.
Jean positioned her hand just below her chin and gave considerable consideration to the implications that this new information could have. "Those abilities sound like they may be quite harmful. I'm a little concerned about who he might be."
"Please, Jean, don't jump to conclusions. Keep in mind that a knight should treat strangers with respect and not mistrust. And we decided to meet with him later that afternoon." Lisa told Jean she shouldn't stress over it too much.
"Lisa, you make an excellent point. It would be wise for me not to get too far ahead of myself. If all goes well with our meeting, we may have found a new ally. Now that we're on the subject, why the afternoon for our meeting and what exactly is he doing right now?" Jean questioned Lisa and Kaeya about the reasons why the meeting should not take place as soon as possible.
"According to our knights, he departed with Amber to investigate the city on their own. Our outrider is trying her best to make him feel welcome." Kaeya filled Jean in on their whereabouts. Having Amber around prevented him from prying any information about the shapeshifter out of him. For the time being, he is avoiding her completely out of concern that she may launch into yet another tirade.
"That's excellent news. I appreciate the effort Amber is doing to demonstrate one of a knight's core duties and to promote the splendors of our city." Amber's efforts to accommodate their new visitor were met with a warm grin and nod of approval from Jean.
"I'm going to track down our Honorary Knight. Perhaps she will find this meeting interesting." Affirming this plan, Jean nodded, and Kaeya left to do his assignment. After this, Jean and Lisa enjoyed their tea time for a little while longer before returning to their work. They did, however, continue to be interested in the shapeshifter and developed their own hypotheses on him. The possibility that it is a new blessing from the gods to the possibility that it is an experiment conducted by the Fatui.
When Ben asked if there was any food he could eat because it had been a while since he had eaten logically, he anticipated to be sent to a cafeteria that provided free meals for the knights. What he didn't anticipate was for Amber to drag him all the way to a restaurant against his will. The hero tried to explain that he didn't have any cash, but the outrider simply laughed it off and said she'd pay.
"You didn't really need to go out of your way to treat me here. I'll be fine with whatever cafeteria food you serve." Ben made another attempt to convince Amber, but she dismissed his concerns immediately.
"Nonsense! A Knight of Favonius' duty is to assist and aid any strange but respectable traveler. Following Section 7 of the Knights of Favonius Handbook - 5th Edition: When greeting travelers from afar, please act hospitably by informing them of the locations of essential businesses and services, recommending popular tourist destinations, and giving any further assistance that they may request or require." Amber proudly stated out an important rule of the knights while Ben looked on with a face of disbelief that she remembered information like that.
"That's… nice to know." Ben was at a loss for words and couldn't quite figure out what to say. If the plumbers give him a handbook to learn, he will most likely never read it and will instead rely on Rook to explain an abridged version to him in the event that he ever needs it.
"We have arrived!" They were both seen entering the eatery together. The place was called Good Hunter. It was located on the plaza in front of a substantial structure, and each of the tables and benches faced the open air. Ben whistled as the scene brought back memories of sitting at one of the open-air tables at Mr. Smoothy's. The more he thought about it, the more he started to miss Rook and the rest of his friends and family back at home. With a wistful grin, he expressed his desire to see them again soon and hoped that they were doing okay without him.
"Originally, I planned to attend to my friend here first, but it appears that she is still resting from her ordeal with Stormterror. So you get the honor of trying out Sticky Honey Roast!" Ben's train of thought was eventually derailed when Amber walked up to him and told him what they were going to eat for lunch today.
"Sticky Honey Roast? Not exactly chili fries, but if it tastes nice I won't complain." Ben reconsidered his decision and ultimately chose to accept Amber's offer. To be perfectly honest, he'd rather have something tasty than cafeteria food.
"Great! Sara, two orders of Sticky Honey Roast, please." Amber approached her good friend and proceeded to give her orders.
"Coming right up, Amber." Sara the waiter of Good Hunter nodded her head in approval and continued to prepare their lunch.
After a short period of time, Sara finished preparing the meal and the lemonade and then carried it out to the table where Ben and Amber were sitting. In front of them came a dish consisting of pork covered in a syrupy honey sauce, coupled with carrots that masked the meat's natural gamey flavor. Amber expressed her gratitude to Sara for all of her hard work, while Ben's mouth began to water at the aroma of it. Thereafter, the two of them got down to the business of devouring their delectable lunch.
"This is delicious! There is a satisfying crunch to the carrots, and the meat is juicy and flavorful. However, this honey sauce is what pulls everything together, and it is simply incredible. This is something I will definitely be buying again." Ben was focused on cramming as much of the delicious meal in front of him into his mouth as possible while also taking the time to appreciate it. He made a mental note to look out the recipe for this dish the next time he was in his dimension.
"I'm glad you like it! While I don't trust myself in the kitchen, you can always trust me with the menu!" Amber responded with a joyful smile while she munched on her own Stick Honey Roast. The two continued eating, with Amber being the first one to clear her plate. After that, she cast an intensely curious gaze upon Ben's face.
"Is there something on my face?" Ben stopped eating when he became aware that Amber was staring at him during the meal. He pondered whether or not there was honey clinging to his skin. Because he was eating this in a manner that was somewhat similar to the manner in which he consumes chili fries.
Amber was somewhat ashamed when Ben pointed out that she was staring at him. She shook it off and quickly regained her composure, then went straight to the point with what she wanted to ask in the following sentence. "So… How do you do it?"
"Do what?" Ben titled his head in confusion. If he were a betting man, he would probably be able to figure out what questions The Outrider intends to ask him.
"That thing where you transform into monsters. It started with the Geovishap, then the creature with Pyro Vision." Aside from getting to know Ben and making him feel at home, one of the main motivations was to witness more of his abilities in action. She knew that at the meeting she would learn more about it. Nonetheless, she was feeling antsy and wanted to hear about it right now.
"First off, I don't refer to them as monsters, they're aliens." Ben raised one finger at Amber and offered the first correction. When people refer to his aliens as monsters, he gets pretty annoyed about it. Even though he has forms that qualify as monsters.
"What's an alien?" Amber inquired because she had no idea what the meaning of that word was. Though she had to admit it to herself, maybe she did indeed once hear that word from Albedo.
"Seriously? You guys don't have terms for an alien? Okay, imagine the dazzling stars of the night sky as a home to a unique set of inhabitants. Or something that originates in a different world." Ben provided an explanation that was condensed about what an alien is.
"Really?! The stars and other places in the universe are teeming with life? Wow, that's pretty neat!" Amber appeared to have stars in her eyes as she pondered all of the amazing species that lived there.
"I'll go into more detail once I see your acting grandmaster. Last but not least, it's not a Geovishap or a Pyro Vision monster. The two of them are known as Humungousaur and Heatblast." Ben stuck up two fingers and offered a second clarification to Amber's previous statement.
"Humungousaur and Heatblast… Those are some great sounding names. They're simple and it sounds good." Amber gave a contented nod, reveling in the knowledge that his transformations now had unique names and that she could finally stop referring to their previous incarnations as Geovishap and Pyro Vision monsters. However, she appeared to still be confused because the response to her question wasn't quite satisfactory. "You still haven't answered my question, though. How are you able to do those transformations?"
Ben gave it some consideration for a few moment before deciding, "Why not?" Amber struck him as trustworthy enough for him to expose it, and he intended to do so eventually at their meeting with her acting grandmaster. He exposed the Omnitrix to her in all its glory by rolling down his left sleeve. "With this."
"Is that supposed to be some sort of insignia that represents your family?" Amber questioned him about the purpose of displaying this object that had a square shape and was colored in shades of green, black, and white.
"It's called the Omnitrix, a powerful device that's capable of transforming me into a variety of different aliens." Ben retold the Omnitrix tale, but this time in even briefer detail.
"That thing is what makes you transform?! Let me see!" While Amber stepped closer to the watch in an attempt to have a better knowledge of its functions, Ben moved his palm in front of her face in an effort to calm her down.
"Woah, hey, okay, I'll show you. Just tap the face plate, and a circular object will appear. As soon as that happens, you can move it as you see fit. Keep your hands off it, though, or the core will emerge and I'll have to transform in front of everyone." After giving his instructions, Ben then extended his arm in the direction of The Outrider.
Amber followed Ben's instructions, and when she opened up the device, she couldn't help but look in amazement like a child for quite some time. She continued to scan through the head silhouettes on the screen. It was incredible to witness all of the numerous aliens that Ben had. She recognized two of the silhouettes, which are Humungousaur and Heatblast, but other ones intrigued her and she wondered what their skills were. For example, the one that looked like a yeti or the one that had a chicken head made Amber giggle because she imagined Ben as a chicken. However, the one that stood out to her the most was an odd-looking creature that sported a long and enormous fin on its head. She couldn't help but wonder whether or not this creature was actually a shark.
"What exactly does this do, though?" Amber said to herself out loud. Ben turned around to see what she was talking about, and his eyes widened when he saw Amber staring at the silhouette of Way Big's head.
"Ah! Don't touch it!" Without a second's hesitation, Ben yanked his arm away from Amber and turned off the Omnitrix.
"Huh? I don't understand what's wrong with that one." Amber gave Ben a puzzled look as she cocked her head to the side and pondered the reason behind his behavior.
"Nothing's wrong. Unless, of course, you want the city block to be flattened by the foot of an alien that is 150 feet tall." Ben spoke in a soft voice at the beginning of his sentence before suddenly raising his voice and gesturing wildly towards the end to emphasize his point.
After hearing his explanation, Amber stared at him in disbelief and suspected that he was making the whole thing up. However, it appeared as though he wasn't. "How many distinct aliens do you have at your disposal?"
"More than enough." Ben's reply was playful as he sipped more lemonade.
"I wanna see more of it in action." Amber did not agree with that response, and her natural curiosity was beginning to get the better of her. Plus, she pleaded for one more transformation.
"You'll have to locate me a place far away from here where I can use it until your superiors give me the go-ahead to display it publicly." Ben remarked as he was sipping the very last drop of his beverage.
Amber was trying to think of a way to get a better look at Ben's transforming abilities in action. Her face lit up, and she made a snapping motion with her finger as she recalled a brilliant idea. "I know! There is still something I need to do before we meet with Acting Grandmaster Jean. There are a lot of camps that the Hilichurls built up following Stormterror's raid, and they need to be cleared out. I invite you to come along and show off your aliens with me."
"I'm in." The words came easily for Ben. Since he had nothing to do other than sit around and wait, he decided that offering his assistance would be a good way to pass the time.
Even though Amber wanted to see more of Ben's transformations, they still had to complete their task and return to base to meet with Acting Grandmaster Jean. There were a total of three Hilichurl camps that needed to be destroyed. To make things quick and efficient, Amber proposed that she take one of the camps, Ben take one of the camps, and then they both take the final one together. Ben was willing to accept these conditions, and he immediately went to work to fulfill his obligations.
Amber left to do the portion of the assignment that was assigned to her. At the moment, she was surveying her situation while perched atop a tree branch and making mental notes of the challenges she faces.
"An Anemo Samachurl, a Mitachurl, and three Hilichurls. I need to be quick and precise to take them all out." Before engaging in battle, Amber took a moment to assess the situation at hand and formulate a strategy in her head. After she had formulated a sound strategy, she drew her Hunter's Bow and commenced carrying it out in accordance with the plan.
Since the Anemo Samachurl's ability to call upon tornadoes could prove to be a nuisance, she first utilized a Pyro Arrow to launch a clean and precise headshot at it. This sounded the alarm to its other companions, who then launched themselves headfirst into an assault on Amber.
"Go go Baron Bunny!" To divert Mitachurl's attention, Amber promptly dispatched Baron Bunny, a stuffed bunny with an explosive surprise that looks like Amber herself. The enormous beast then watched the dancing doll with bewilderment. That leaves Amber to cope with just three Hilichurls, all of whom appear to be prepared for a fight.
The Hilichurls launched their attack on Amber by charging forward. The first one attempted to hit Amber, but she immediately sprang up and kicked it hard on top of his head, and then she quickly fired an arrow to knock it out. Amber picked up the downed Hilichurl's shield and, using her Pyro Vision, set it ablaze before tossing it at the other two Hilichurls. Because it came into contact with their weaponry, which caused it to catch fire, they had no alternative but to toss it away. Amber takes advantage of their helplessness by unleashing a salvo of pyro-arrows, which knocks out every last one of the Hilicurls.
"Now all that's left is the big guy." As planned, Baron Bunny detonated, sending the distracted Mitachurl tumbling to the ground. Amber took advantage of this opening and let go with one arrow, scoring a headshot that stunned the beast out for a moment.
"Let it rain!" For the final stage of her ingenious plan, Amber released a hail of arrows into the air, which eventually fell on the Mitachurl. After taking damage from both the explosion and the arrows, the Mitachurl was finally down for the count and unable to continue fighting.
"That takes care of that!" Amber jumped with joy as she remarked on the successful completion of the task. After that, she proceeded toward the wooden constructions, where she utilized her vision to set fire to them in order to finish cleaning up the mess.
"I wonder how Ben's doing? Maybe I can still see an alien of his in action if I hurry." The outrider then sprinted towards the destination of the second camp. She only expected to see one alien when they team up against the third barrack, but it will be a treat to see two.
"Okay, this is the area Amber told me to go to where I have to destroy something, and it looks underwhelming." Ben took a look around, and his impression was one of disappointment. He ought to have tempered his expectations, for he was anticipating something cool from infiltrating an enemy camp, but instead what he found was a plank of wood and a collection of pointy sticks that appeared to have been cut from a tree.
In addition to the underwhelming architecture, there are a few adversaries stationed here. Among the camp's personnel are two Hilichurls, two Mitachurls, and a Dendro Samachurl.
"Whatever. I can still kick some butt at least while destroying their camps, and I have the perfect alien for it." Ben tapped the Omnitrix, and cycled through his playlist. As soon as he located the appropriate alien, he slammed the core down and was bathed in a green light.
Ben morphed into a ten-foot-tall alien robot with a gray tail and jackhammer-like appendages on his elbows, wrists, and palms. In addition, his head resembles a Corinthian helmet, and it is adorned with two long ears, giving him the appearance of an armadillo. Across the middle of his chest, you can see the Omnitrix logo.
This was Armodrillo, the Omnitrix sample DNA of a Talpaedan, which Ben first acquired from scanning Andreas. A multipurpose alien being that excels in conditions that call for excavating and drilling. Thanks to his jackhammer arms, he can also use them to cause earthquakes that can have a magnitude as high as 10.
The Talpaedan then slowly advanced towards the camp, at which point the Hilichurls, Mitachurl, and Dendro Samachurl were completely taken aback by the sight of the enormous yellow robot.
"Hey fellas. If you can even call that plank of wood a campsite, I have a permit to knock it down. We can do things the easy way, or we can do it the hard way." Armodrillo reprimanded the monsters. They paid little attention as the two Hilichurl combatants came up to him with clubs in preparation for an assault. Armodrillo didn't seem the least bit disturbed by the situation and simply grabbed hold of both of them. He then pumped the pistons with his jackhammer arms, which caused both of the Hilichurls to go off in opposite directions.
"They always pick the hard way." The Talpaedan turned his head and saw two Mitachurls coming at him at full speed. Instantaneously, Armodrillo's arms transformed into drills, which he then used to break their shields into splinters and fragments. After resuming use of his ordinary hands, Armodrillo grabbed both of Mitachurl's heads and brought them crashing down to the ground in quick succession. He continued his assault by pumping the pistons of his jackhammer again on their faces, which caused shockwaves and effectively knocked out the Mitachurls.
The Dendro Samachurl wore a terrified expression as he watched his fellow soldiers were knocked out so quickly. As a desperate last effort, he sprang up as many prickly vines as he could possibly conjure on the ground in order to impede Armodrillo's progress. However, Armodrillo was unaffected by this due to the armor he wore, and as a response, he dug his left arm into the ground and began pumping it, which resulted in an earthquake that took out the last remaining foe.
"That settles the matter. Now let's move on to the primary objective." Shifting his arms back into drills again, the Talpaedan walked up and shredded all of the wooden constructs of the Hilichurls.
"The pillow forts I constructed when I was five years old were more impressive than this." Ben patted his palms together as a sign of satisfaction once the Omnitrix's timer ran out and he was returned to his original form.
"It looks like you already took care of business, Ben." Amber remarked on the situation while she was perched atop a rock.
"Amber? How long were you there?" Ben turned around, cocking an eyebrow in Amber's direction.
Amber leaped down from the rock and approached Ben. "I showed up right as you were finishing up the Mitachurls. I have to say that form of yours is pretty cool looking, and the powers it possesses seem like they would be helpful in demolition commissions. What do you call it, yellow drill?"
"It's Armodrillo." Ben provided instant clarification on the name. He didn't want people giving his aliens unsettling names like Ben 23.
"Armodrillo? Oh, I get it. That's a cleaver name, because he looks like an armadillo and utilizes drills." Amber broke into a bright smile as she admired the thoughtfulness and creativity of the name.
"Do we still have one more camp to spruce up? And is it acceptable to continue calling it an enemy camp? Instead, it looks like they used power tools but forgot to clean up the mess they produced." As he is still yearning for more action, Ben has inquired as to the location of the next set of barracks to be destroyed.
"That's right, the last one is over there beside the hill. I'll race you there!" Amber sprinted off towards their next destination, leaving Ben in the dust.
"Huh? Hey, wait up!" Ben, too, started to sprint in the direction of Amber in an effort to catch up to her.
"Looks like I win, Ben." Amber rose up in jubilation and grinned with pride at her success.
"You're lucky I didn't use one of my speedsters. Otherwise, I would have beaten you in a blink of an eye." Ben remarked that he wasn't too far behind Amber in the race.
The revelation that another of his forms possessed a different skill set caused Amber to raise an eyebrow. "Do you have a form for every situation?"
"Maybe." Once more, Ben gave Amber a hazy response, to which she responded with a look that suggested she was little annoyed. There is no point in badgering him for information because he will disclose everything when the meeting takes place.
"This is the final Hilichurl outpost that needs to be eliminated." Amber put her hand in a position that allowed her to scan the area, and she discovered that they would have to contend with a couple Hilichurls, two Mitachurls, and two Pyro Slimes.
"These guys couldn't put up a camp half as good as the ones that the Boy Scouts do." Ben made a remark about how the structures that they were ordered to destroy were still unimpressive.
"So, what alien form are you planning to use." Amber inquired with a keen sense of curiosity. She had witnessed the previous three alien forms and was curious to see what he would be able to do with his fourth.
"I plan on putting some muscle into it. Particularly, a hefty Four Arms of muscle." Ben activated the Omnitrix and browsed through until he found the silhouette of Four Arms. But he wasn't paying close enough attention, and he overscrolled at the last second. Unfortunately, it was too late since Ben had already slammed the Omnitrix, and the green light surrounded him once more.
Substituting for Ben was a green, amoeba-like creature with a crooked overbite of teeth and six sprout-like growths on the back of its skull. It also had a dark green patch on its head and lighter green skin on its face and abdomen. In addition, he has lines that resemble whiskers on his face and a green tail. The Omnitrix logo is emblazoned in the middle of his chest.
It was the DNA sample of a Gourmand that was stored in the Omnitrix when he turned into Upchuck. More specifically, he became the Perk version. He was first unlocked with the help of Xylene. At first appearance, he appears to be harmless. Nevertheless, in reality, he is one of the most lethal alien life forms in Ben's arsenal. The primary gimmick of Upchuck's power is that he is able to consume nearly anything and then promptly vomit up a powerful and explosive green substance. Some of his most spectacular eating accomplishments include swallowing a 10-ton ball of compacted Nanites and restraining a giant alien in the form of a Crabdozer.
In spite of the impressive accomplishments performed by the alien, Ben couldn't help but let out a sigh of disappointment because he got the wrong transformation. Amber, meantime, observed the new change with fascination and perplexity on her face. "You call that "Four Arms"? Are you sure that his name isn't Tadpole?"
"Unfortunately, I was given the wrong transformation to use. The Omnitrix can be a bit unpredictable at times. What you're looking at right now is a form I've named Upchuck." The Gourmand had come to terms with his incorrect transformation because it would be extremely out of character for the Omnitirx to grant his every wish at this point in his superhero career.
"Upchuck? Wait, don't tell me his powers are vomiting." As Amber recalled that the phrase "upchuck" signifies vomiting, she realized that this alien might not be to her liking.
"Yes, he does exactly that." Upchuck gave The Outrider a thumbs up after she made the right guess.
"I'm not sure whether I really want to watch it." Amber felt a chill run down her spine and almost certainly abandoned her intention to observe the alien in action.
"These abilities of his are quite sweet. Trust me, I'll show it to you." Upon touching the ground, Upchuck instantly leaped down and started racing in the direction of the barracks. The moment the monsters laid eyes on him, they disregarded him, considering him to be merely another animal that had escaped its enclosure. Everything changed when the Gourmand opened his mouth, and out sprang three strong adhesive tongues that attached themselves to each of the three wooden structures. Upchuck swallowed them into his mouth and started digesting them. After he was finished, he blasted explosive balls of liquid at the monsters, who were taken aback by the onslaught and suffered significant damage as a result.
"What did you think of that, Amber?" Upchuck had a smug expression on his face when he turned around to look at Amber, but it changed to one of confusion when he realized that she was no longer at the hill. Unbeknownst to the Gourmand, one of the Hilichurls had gotten to his feet and was about to deliver a blow to the alien's noggin. Fortunately, this did not take place since the Hilichurl was struck in the head with an arrow, which knocked it out.
"Although the explosive blasts give the impression that they are useful, the powers are still disgusting." Turning around, Upchuck saw that Amber had entered the battlefield with her bow as she completed the assist.
"Everyone's a critic." The Gourmand shrugged his shoulders. Though he had to admit, the fans in his world didn't like Upchuck's powers very much due to his reputation as a nasty eater. Instead, the majority of them bought his Mr. Smoothy's cup because they thought he was cute.
"Oh, and did you totally forget that our last task was a collaborative one? Well, I'll have you know that I can hold my own in a battle, too." Amber chastised Upchuck in an irritated tone. She does not want to find herself in a position where she is sidelined, as Captain Kaeya did to her in the beginning of being an Outrider.
Ben was just about to say that he can take care of things by himself. But he recalled the many times he had worked along with others, most notably Grandpa Max, Gwen, Kevin, and Rook. And if he was being completely honest, he cherished each and every one of those times in his life.
"Yeah, we agreed to do this together. Okay, let's show them what an alien and an Outrider can accomplish when they work together, shall we?" Then, with a grin on his face, Upchuck let out an exclamation before starting to get ready for the fight. Amber smiled at him as well and then slowly raised her bow and arrow to prepare for the fight.
The only adversaries that are still present are the Mitachurls and the Pyro Slimes. Upchucked opened his mouth and proceeded to ingest the two Pyro Slimes as well as the last surviving structure in the camp, which was a big stove. After the objects had been digested, explosive balls of liquid were formed from them, and the Gourmand spat them out in the direction of the Mitachurl, causing him to fall to the ground. The second Mitachurl prepared to slay Upchuck with his axe, but was instantly stunned by a headshot to the face delivered by Amber's bow.
After some time, the two Mitachurls regained their composure and furiously surveyed their surroundings, getting ready to execute their assailants. However, they were perplexed when the only thing they saw in front of them was a dancing plush bunny, which Amber had conjured up as a distraction so that she and Upchuck could get behind the enemy's blind spot and prepared the next phase of their attack.
Amber unleashed a volley of pyro-arrows into Upchuck's mouth, where she expected him to consume them and be ready to transform them into lethal projectiles. Baron Bunny blew up at the exact right moment, sending both Mitachurls in their direction at the same time. As a capstone to their combined efforts, Upchuck spewed the largest flaming exploding projectile he could manage towards the two creatures, knocking them both out with the resulting force.
Upchuck soon ran out of time and reverted back to Ben, who congratulated a delighted Amber on a job well done thanks to their amazing teamwork.
"That was great, Ben! Most notably with that fantastic coordinated onslaught we launched. There's a good chance that I'm beginning to change my mind on Upchuck." Amber enthusiastically commended Ben on his and their teamwork, as well as how effective and confident they appeared to be in taking down the opponent.
"Neither are you, Amber. Honestly, I had no clue you were toting around an explosive doll. These dudes didn't see it coming." Ben praised Amber, and he remarked that he was impressed by the equipment that she had. Perhaps when he gets home, he will suggest to Blukic and Driba that they construct some stuffed explosives for him out of his aliens.
The two continued to have smiles on their faces until Amber's countenance froze and changed into a worried expression. She pulled out her adventurer's pocket watch and her eyes widened in shock as she read the time. "Oh no!"
"What's wrong?" Ben was confused as to why Amber was suddenly so frantic.
"We had too much fun here, and now we're going to be late for the meeting!" The alien hero found it entertaining to see Amber run back and forth while she held her hands by the sides of her head. Even though Jean won't reprimand them for being a little bit late, it is still embarrassing for them to not be on time. Amber's momentary state of panic subsided as she suddenly recalled something Ben had said to her some time ago. "I know! Ben, you mentioned before that you have a speedy alien at your disposal, right? Change into him!"
"You got it! Just let me find him, and we'll get back to headquarters lickety-split. Let me get the guy I want, Omnitrix. If you're not in a giving mood, I'll settle for Fasttrack or Jetray." Ben carefully scrolled through and found the right silhouette and slammed down the Omnitirx core with a green light engulfing him.
As the light began to dim, a Velociraptor with partial plate armor emerged. He has thick claws on his three fingers, which are black in color, black orbs on the soles of his feet, and a black tail with four blue stripes. He has a protective visor that slides over his face and wears a black cone-shaped helmet that covers his head. When the visor is raised, one is able to see that he has a blue face, green eyes, black lips, and stripes that run under and between his eyes. Lastly, he wears a black bodysuit and a shirt that resembles a turtleneck and has a green stripe down the center of it. The Omnitrix emblem is centered on his chest.
XLR8, the DNA sample of a Kineceleran that was stored in the Omnitrix, was the alien that took center stage. When Ben first got his hands on the original Omnitirx, this was one of his ten aliens, and it was the fastest of the bunch. Even in his most recent iteration of the Omnitrix, he maintains his title as the fastest alien. XLR8 is capable of reaching speeds of 500 miles per second in just two seconds, which makes him so quick that to the unaided eye, he appears to be nothing more than a blur. When he is running, time seems to pass more slowly from his perspective, and due to his incredible speed, he is able to sprint over water or walls and even create a wind vortex.
"Yes! This watch actually gave me XLR8!" The Kineceleran raised both of his claws into the air in jubilation after successfully acquiring the correct alien.
"From your expression, I assume that the Omnitrix really did provide you with your fastest alien." Amber's expression was one of wonder and intrigue as she observed the alien. Even while a cheetah-like appearance for his speedster was what she was anticipating, the sleek blue and black lizard he chose is undeniably cool.
XLR8 lowered his visor, raced forward, and slung Amber over his shoulder in a piggyback position. The outrider was taken aback, but she still managed to maintain her grip on his neck. "That's correct, Amber. Please buckle up and keep your hands and feet within the Kineceleran at all times as this is going to be a bumpy ride. I would also suggest that you refrain from throwing up during the voyage."
"Wait whhhaaaaaahhh!" While Amber screeches for her life, XLR8 disappears in a flash during a quick burst of speed that happens in the blink of an eye. While she has a reputation for being an adventurous outrider, she has never before ridden anything quite so rapidly. With any luck, her experience as an outrider and her daredevil approach to flying a glider will keep any nausea at bay.
"Honorary Knight and Paimon, we're happy to have you here." Jean extended a heartfelt welcome to the two guests who had been invited to attend their meeting with the shapeshifter.
A young woman with gold eyes and short, jagged blond hair entered, wearing two Inteyvat flowers and two feathers. Her black straps hold up a white box-pleated dress that exposes her arms and back. She wears a long scarf with two diamond-shaped dangling ends. And she wears white ankle boots and angled thigh-high stockings.
Involved in the resolution of the Stormterror incident, this was Lumine, an Honorary Knight of Mondstadt. She is a visitor from another world who got stranded on Teyvat. She plans to explore the world in a bid to locate the Seven and, perhaps, her missing twin brother.
"Hey guys! We're glad to see you too." A tiny fairy with dark purple eyes, thick white hair, and a rose-gold tiara greeted them when they entered the room. She wears a white long-sleeved jumper, a dark blue cloak with stars, white stockings, and white boots. Her jumper, boots, and sleeves have rose-gold form embroidery.
This particular individual was Paimon. As the first person Lumine had ever encountered in this world, she served as both a reliable companion and a source of food in times of an emergency.
"Hey there, cuties! It's great to have you here, too. If I had to guess, you came here in search of an encounter with the shapeshifter." The two were greeted by Lisa, who expressed her delight at seeing them once more.
"Yup! We've never met anyone with shapeshifting powers, so we figured it would be cool to see one in action. Paimon's curious if it has the potential to become cake." Paimon spun merrily about as she entertained herself by daydreaming about the food the shapeshifter could possibly change into.
"I'm not surprised by your reason to check it out." Lumine whirled around and stared her flying companion down with a blank expression.
"In the meantime, we ask for your patience. Our honored guest has not yet made their way here." Kaeya, who was leaning against the window and peering at it, informed the two of them.
"He hasn't? Paimon wonders where he is. Do you think he transformed into something and lef-" A powerful gust of wind swept Paimon away before she could even complete her sentence, while the rest of them were forced to cover their eyes to avoid being blinded. When they finally decided it was okay to open their eyes, they were greeted by the sight of two figures who had just walked into the room. It turned out to be Outrider Amber, accompanied with a peculiar creature that they were unable to name.
"Ooohhh. The wooorrrlllddd keeeeeps twiiiissssting and tuuuuurrrrning. I seeeee dooooubbbblllleeee of ehhhverything." Amber's voice was slurred as she spoke those words. Even though she had a strong stomach and didn't throw up, going that fast made her feel a little bit dizzy.
"Heh. Heh. Sorry about that Amber." Once XLR8 noticed Amber's condition, he pulled his visor back, laughed nervously, and rubbed the back of his head.
"What is that thing?! Paimon thinks he brought Amber here for ransom!" When the Kineceleran turned back, he saw a child that had the appearance of a fairy pointing erratically in his direction, while the rest of her traveling companions looked wary.
At that very moment, Jean pulled out her Favonius Sword, and Lumine did the exact same thing with her Dull Blade. In case they ever needed it, Lisa was prepared to use her Electro Vision to aid them both. But Kaeya did little more than keep an eye out for this creature because he had a hunch about what it might be.
XLR8 acted as though he had been apprehended in the middle of committing a crime by quickly putting his hands up in the air. Lumine was ready to take on the challenge posed by the Kinecelerean. Jean would have preferred a nonviolent resolution to the situation, but she doesn't like how Amber is looking, so she's going to rush in and get her out of here while their honorary knight fights off the beast.
"W-wait! Don't attack! This is him! The shapeshifter I'd described in my report. Come on, show them, Ben." Amber quickly gathered her composure and rushed forward to protect Ben by jumping in front of him. With another beep from the Omnitrix signaling a time out, XLR8 was enveloped in green light and replaced by Ben, who made an awkward gesture of a wave toward the knights.
When they found out that the person who could change forms was a teenager, everyone's reactions were extremely different. The revelation caused Jean, Paimon, and Lumine to look on with looks of surprise and disbelief on their faces and with their mouths slightly open. A teasing smile appeared on Lisa's face as she considered the fact that she now had another individual to refer to as a cutie. And the ever-shrewd Kaeya, after observing what had just taken place, let out a light chuckle to himself. "It would appear that things are about to take an extremely intriguing turn."
Author's Notes
I just want to say thank you for all the reviews about this story and you guys liking it. To be honest, I didn't expect much attention when I uploaded this, but your responses pleasantly surprised me. So once again, thank you for your support. Now let me answer a few questions from the comments.
To VSX-2018: I'm really sorry to say, but I haven't gotten around to playing Honkai Impact 3 yet.
To Israeldid911: In any case, I'll figure something out. Ben usually holds back in fights because he doesn't want to injure or even kill his opponents.
To Ruxion The Ashura: I'm sorry, but I don't intend to give Ben a harem. Still, I hope to pair him up with a special someone in the future. But I haven't decided which girl will be the lucky one.
To Ruxion The Ashura and Eygptian dragon: Definitely, I want to use the Omnitrix to scan some of Teyvat's creatures. But there will be restrictions based on Ben 10 canon. Due to their low intelligence and primal nature, he may be unable to scan most common overworld enemies, such as Geovishaps and Slimes. It's likely that hilichurls and black serpents are not possible to scan since their DNA has been tainted. Andrius of Wolvendom may not be attainable since he's an ice spirit. However, it will be possible to scan Adepti and Youkai DNA. Some of the heralds of the Abyss Order may also be scannable by him. And I'm not 100% sure yet about Osial.
