It was a quiet night at the castle, Gooey hung out in Dedede's room with a puzzled look on his face. This time, Dedede chose to play Checkers with Gooey instead, as he thought that it would be easier for the blob to understand.
Gooey tried to figure out where he wanted to move his pieces. He almost grabbed one before he changed his mind.
"You know, I really hope you DON'T take that piece right there," Dedede said while he pointed to one of his own pieces. It was close to one of Gooey's pieces, so Gooey took the piece and made it hop over Dedede's piece before taking it.
Dedede sighed as he crossed his arms and shook his head. "Hate to say it, but you're gettin' good at this, kid."
Gooey smiled brightly, he was almost at a point where one of his pieces could be "kinged". He really wanted to show everyone how good he was at the game.
"Hey, do you think Brother might like this game?" Gooey asked. Dedede replied with a shrug. "Maybe. Knowin' Blade, though, he's probably sulking in one of the balconies again."
"Hm...Can I go check on him real quick?" Gooey asked.
"If you want, it's not like the game's goin' anywhere."
"All right," Gooey said with a nod, "I'll be right back."
He headed out of Dedede's room and made his way through the castle. There weren't many people in the halls aside from the occasional Waddle Dee that patrolled the castle. At this point, even Kirby might've been sleeping right now.
Soon, Gooey made his way to the balcony. Here, Blade sat at a table with the red cloak wrapped around him. It seemed like he was wearing the cloak for comfort more than to stay hidden. He stared at the moon with a curious gaze.
"You OK, Brother?" Gooey asked. His brother looked at him before he tilted his head. "I'm fine, but tell me Gooey...What do you think Nightmare was, exactly?"
"He was a big jerk, that's what he was!" Gooey said bluntly, Blade couldn't help but laugh a bit. "That is true, but...I can't help but wonder if he has some sort of connection to the light like the Puffballs do...or maybe he's more like the fairies on Ripple Star?"
"Who knows?" Gooey replied with a shrug. "I just know that we don't gotta worry about him for a while."
"I suppose so," Blade replied before looking back at the moon. "But I can't stop thinking about it, I've heard stories about Dream Matter and beings made from it, but that's about the only connection I can make from it."
"Well, we dun gotta worry about him until he comes back." Gooey said positively. "And hopefully it'll be a while before it happens."
"You're right, I just hope that Kirby can rest for as long as he can until that day comes," Blade told Gooey.
"I'm sure he will," Gooey replied His brother nodded before he looked up at the moon again. He still appeared appeared to be lost in thought.
"Hey, wanna watch me and Dedede play checkers?" Gooey offered. "I'm getting really good at it."
"...Maybe I'll stick around for a little bit, because I plan on heading to bed soon, anyway."
Gooey smiled as Blade followed the young blob through the castle. His brother had gone through so much since the first time he came to Popstar, and there was still so much that he needed to get used to. But overall, Gooey was just happy to have his brother back.
