HOLA so this chapter may be a bit complicated but I tried my best to explain everything. So have fun reading. (And is it just me or do I feel like people skipped thanksgiving and went straight to christmas?)
Alphys's lab door had opened and it was kind of dark inside. Everyone was a bit confused on why it was so dark there. Doesn't Alphys like to have a little light in her lab? What if she wasn't even in her lab. Where would she even be though? I mean they did waste a lot of time arguing.
"Don't worry I am sure Alphys is here, when I was first here the lights were off", said Lincoln. "And she was still in the building"
"Ok, that's good to know… uh, aren't you gonna follow us in?", asked Undyne.
"Uh, well… I do not think it would be a good idea to just show my face to Alphys directly, maybe warm her up a bit first, I don't want to cause her to have any bad flashbacks… even though I didn't see her at all in the last route", explained Lincoln.
"You do have a good point", said Undyne.
"DO NOT WORRY, I WILL EXPLAIN TO DR. ALPHYS THAT YOU HAVE NO INTENTIONS TO HARM ANYONE", shouted Papyrus.
"Heh, thanks Papyrus", thanked Lincoln.
"wait lincoln, did dr. alphys ever watch you on that screen thing?", asked sans.
"Yeah.. how do you know about that?", asked sans.
"she most likely watched you during you… 'genocide' that's when she recruited all the monsters to a safe area… which is why you probably didn't see as much as you did after you killed, almost everyone", explained sans. "and i know because i have been in here before, for reasons that are none of your concern"
Didn't matter if sans told Lincoln the reason or not, he still knew why. And that confidential information is something even the person reading this will not know.
"Wait… that must be why I am not seeing any monsters except for you guys… everyone must've escaped to the 'safe place' I don't know about… cause they are scared of me", said Lincoln.
"AFTER WE HELP YOU GET OUT OF THE UNDERGROUND, I WILL MAKE A WORD TO EVERYONE THAT YOU HAVE TURNED NICE AGAIN AND IT PERMANENTLY GOING TO STAY THAT WAY", exclaimed Papyrus.
"I'll even back him up on his statements, cause people will definitely believe the head of the royal guard", said Undyne.
"Thanks guys"
Papyrus, sans, and Undyne all began walking into the lab more and Lincoln just stayed close behind.
"Why is the screen off?", asked Lincoln.
"idk but it is kind of strange…", said sans. "maybe she just needs a break from, stalking?"
"Maybe"
Eventually they all were deep inside the still very dark lab.
"Ok, now where is she?" asked Undyne.
"Why are the lights still not turned on? It is so dark in here", said Lincoln. "I mean it's REALLY dark in here, I can't see anything"
"Was it this dark before?", asked Undyne.
"No, it wasn't THIS dark", exclaimed Lincoln.
"ODDLY ENOUGH I STILL SEE SOMETHING", said Papyrus.
"What do you see?", asked Lincoln.
"RED GLOWY THINGS-"
"i am pretty sure those are lincoln's eyes", said sans.
"You guys can still see my eyes?", asked Lincoln.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool in my opinion", said Undyne.
"Woah that's awesome, wait… I have an idea", said Lincoln.
Lincoln summoned a red knife and it had emitted enough light where everyone could at least see each other's faces.
Lincoln was amazed, Undyne was also astounded.
"That's so cool!", shouted Undyne.
"YES, THAT IS QUITE AMAZING.. EVEN SO FOR A HUMAN TO DO THAT", shouted Papyrus.
"You all might think this is cool cause it's normal for you guys, not for humans… I wonder how my sisters would react to this", exclaimed Lincoln.
"They might be fine with it", said Undyne.
"Ehhh, it is a bit biased coming from you", said Lincoln.
"WHAT DOES BIASED MEAN?", asked Papyrus.
"basically a one sided opinion", said sans.
"OHHHHHHH"
"Anyways, do you guys have an idea of where she is?", asked Lincoln.
"Where who is?"
The lights all of a sudden turned on and Alphys was standing there.
"AHHH"
All 4 of them screamed in unison as they were all jumpscared by Alphys. She came at a very unexpected time. Lincoln accidentally dropped his knife in front of Alphys. However, Undyne, Papyrus, and sans all quickly stood in front of Lincoln to block him from Alphys's view.
"UHh, I have many questions… First off, why are you three here? And whose knife is that?", asked Alphys.
"UH, WE ARE HERE CAUSE WE HAVE VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS", shouted Papyrus.
"You do realize you could have just called me on the phone", said Alphys.
"WELL YES BUT THESE QUESTIONS REQUIRE IN PERSON RESPONSES", yelled Papyrus.
"I d-don't know Papyrus, I h-have been f-feeling a little stressed l-lately", said Alphys.
"Ok Alphys, don't freak out, but we just have some questions about one person in particular… and we brought him with us", said Undyne.
"Uh… w-who is it?", asked Alphys.
Alphys had a slight suspicion it was who she thought it was.
"Guys just show her to me", said Lincoln.
"UHH NOT YET", shouted Papyrus.
Undyne sighed.
"It's Lincoln, the person who killed everyone before", exclaimed Undyne as she stepped out of the way revealing Lincoln.
Wow, what a way to greet someone…
"Uh, hi.. Alphys", greeted Lincoln.
Alphys had gotten a little nervous in his presence, especially now that his eyes were strangely red.
And the knife disappeared from the ground.
"ALPHYS I KNOW IT SEEMS WEIRD TO BE IN THE PRESENCE OF A FORMER KILLER, BUT HE HAS PROMISED TO NEVER DO WHAT HE DID DESPITE HIS APPEARANCE", shouted Papyrus.
"Yeahhh plus he already got what he deserved… many times", said Undyne.
"U-uh… I don't know.."
"Alphys, I won't do what I did ever again, I've already gained the trust of 5 other people… and you can be the 6th", exclaimed Lincoln.
"I j-just… you g-gained my trust b-before already, then you broke it…", said Alphys.
"well logically he only truly made the decision himself to kill only about two people… the rest wasn't necessarily all his fault", explained sans.
"I-I realize t-that, the more you k-kill, the more LOVE y-you gain… but, when I-I was watching y-y-you on the screen… I-I was so s-scared, t-the person I once k-knew… b-became s-some heartless m-murderer, I c-couldn't s-stop watching… k-kill after k-kill, d-dust… e-e-everywhere", stuttered Alphys as she had gotten a bit scared.
Lincoln gritted his teeth in guilt. He didn't know how scared he actually made Alphys, and she wasn't even a victim.
Survivors' guilt…
"I-I just knew I had t-to try and p-protect everyone in d-danger b-but…"
"I. Still. Killed… So many monsters", said Lincoln fearfully. "A-alphys, I-I'm so sorry for making you feel this way…"
"It's ok.. I mean y-you're ok, now… y-you haven't killed anyone a-again", said Alphys.
"That still doesn't condone my actions, I still deeply regret putting you through that Alphys… and I guess that's why your screen is off too, so you don't have to watch me, again… In case", said Lincoln as he trailed off his sentence.
"L-like I said, Its ok! I-I forgive you, I mean I haven't been e-exactly g-good either, Cause…. Y'know", stated Alphys as she looked at the elevator door.
Lincoln knew exactly what Alphys was talking about. The 'determination' experiment.
"Wait Alphys what did you do?", asked Undyne.
"Uhm stuff you don't need to worry about", said Lincoln nervously.
"Uh… ok?"
"WELL, ARE WE ALL GOOD NOW?", asked Papyrus.
"Umm I mean if Alphys is ok then yeah…", said Lincoln.
"I'm ok now, I-I understand you are extremely sorry for w-what you did", exclaimed Alphys.
Lincoln smiled at that.
"Anyways we need to do what we came here for, ask Alphys questions!", exclaimed Undyne. "Alphys, you see that Lincoln's eyes are red right? Well, why are they red?"
"Um… uh I am n-not exactly sure but I think I h-have a theory, based on the l-look", exclaimed Alphys.
"WHAT IS THE THEORY YOU HAVE DR. ALPHYS?", asked Papyrus.
"I think i-it's because of his d-determination… his soul is pure determination", exclaimed Alphys.
"But I had the same soul before and my eyes weren't red", exclaimed Lincoln. "At least I don't think they were red…"
"they weren't, not even when i was fighting you", said sans.
"UH… don't bring that up please… anyways, why are my eyes red now if they weren't red before?", asked Lincoln.
"I think you unlocked the true d-determination I mentioned…. I d-don't know how but, y-you somehow did", exclaimed Alphys.
Right, how could Lincoln forget that, he must've unlocked his true determination. But how did he do it?
Chara
That was the answer.
Chara was the hypothetical wall that was blocking Lincoln from his true power. And now that Chara is gone he can have access to his own determination.
"But… that still doesn't explain why my soul looks the way it does", said Lincoln.
"What do you mean? It should look like every other soul, only red", exclaimed Undyne.
"It doesn't though, didn't you notice that half of my soul was lighter than the other half when sans took control of it?", asked Lincoln.
"I guess it did seem a little off", exclaimed Undyne.
"W-wait… what are you t-talking about?", asked Alphys.
"My soul, it doesn't look normal… half of it is red and the other half is white", exclaimed Lincoln.
"That's… strange, only m-monster souls are white… are you sure that h-half isn't grey?", asked Alphys.
Alphys had suspected that maybe half of Lincoln's soul lost some determination. But that was not the case at all.
"No I am pretty sure it is white", confirmed Lincoln.
"C-can I see it?", asked Alphys.
"Uhm… how would you see it?", asked Lincoln.
"I… haven't thought about t-that", exclaimed Alphys.
"I have an idea for that", exclaimed Undyne.
"What is your idea?", asked Lincoln.
"Well… remember when sans took control of your soul?", asked Undyne.
"Yes, I remember that quite clearly", said Lincoln deadpanned.
"Well what if sans like, exposed your soul?", asked Undyne.
"the thing is lincoln's soul turns blue when i take control of it, so it would be hard to see. and even if you want me to fully expose his soul to the point where it is not inside of him that's kind of impossible", exclaimed sans as his eye flared and he took control of Lincoln's soul again. "see, lincoln is moving where i take him, not his soul"
"But half of i-it is lighter", exclaimed Alphys.
"yeah, that's kind of strange", stated sans.
"UHH SANS CAN YOU PUT LINCOLN DOWN, HE SEEMS KIND OF DISTRESSED RIGHT NOW", shouted Papyrus.
Lincoln felt very uncomfortable at the moment.
"uhh sure thing", said sans as he put Lincoln down.
"T-hat's is really strange, and I c-can see why you would-want to ask me these things… I don't k-know the exact answer to these q-questions but there's something I w-want to do", explained Alphys.
"What is that-"
"OH ALPHYS I COMPLETELY FORGOT, I BROUGHT YOU SOME OF MY COMPLIMENTARY SPAGHETTI", shouted Papyrus.
"U-uh thanks Papyrus, j-just put the plate over there for now", said Alphys. "A-anyways, I have a m-machine that I used for mettaton a few times, and I think i-it would be a good idea t-to use it for this situation", exclaimed Alphys.
"What does the machine do exactly?", asked Lincoln.
"It tests if you are a human, a monster, or a r-robot", said Alphys
"What…? Of course I am a human, why would I need to test that?", asked Lincoln as he was very concerned.
"I-I formed another theory, a-and this one is weird but, I need a confirmation", said Alphys.
"Are you saying Lincoln isn't a human??", asked Undyne.
"UH, No I-I am not saying that a-at all! But a-again… confirmation", siad Alphys.
"A-alphys, what if this machine thing s-says I'm not a human?", asked Lincoln in worry.
"D-don't worry, I am sure it will say you are", exclaimed Alphys nervously.
"Ok… where is this machine?", asked Lincoln.
"It's right here", said Alphys as she walked to it.
"Isn't that the thing you spy on me with?", asked Lincoln.
"Y-yeah but it is also a tester machine, j-just let me set it up", said Alphys as she began pressing a few buttons.
Lincoln looked on nervously and Papyrus noticed this.
"FELLOW HUMAN ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?", asked Papyrus.
"Uh… yeah I'm fine, I just… I am worried", said Lincoln.
"WHAT ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT?"
"What if, what if I'm not a human?"
"WELL YOU'LL STILL BE YOURSELF", said Papyrus.
"Would I be though? I mean… can a human form swords and shields like I can?", asked Lincoln.
"WELL I DON-"
"yes…"
"What…?"
"they can, but from what i heard they have been gone for a while… i read about it before", said sans.
Lincoln remembered…
"I remember that… somehow….", said Lincoln.
"Oh yeah Alphys that's another thing, Lincoln can somehow remember memories that are sans's memories and not his", said Undyne.
"That… only happens on o-one condition, L-Lincoln, did you ever… absorb sans's soul?", asked Alphys.
"Uh… no? He is right here isn't he? Sans wouldn't be alive right now if I did absorb his soul", exclaimed Lincoln.
"Then that i-is really strange t-then", said Alphys. "O-ok the machine is r-ready now".
There was now an opening in the machine and some control panels under a small screen.
"A-all you have to do i-is step in here and let me t-take care of the rest", exclaimed Alphys.
"...Ok"
Lincoln stepped into the machine nervously and ALphys was typing a few things. Then a big scanner thing went and scanned Lincoln and his soul. His soul was now visible.
"Oh, so that's what he meant by 'half white and half red'", exclaimed Undyne.
"THAT IS ACTUALLY KIND OF COOL", stated Papyrus.
"I-I never see anything like this", said Alphys as she looked at the results.
Alphys was shocked.
Lincoln stepped out of the machine and walked up to her.
"So what are the results?", asked Lincoln.
"I…"
"It says…"
What the machine was saying exactly word for word.
…..
Monster
…
And Human.
"It says, you're both?"
"Both?", said Lincoln and Undyne in unison.
"Yeah… I don't know how but that's what it says", exclaimed Alphys.
"That's… weird, really weird", said Lincoln. "I don't even know how my soul got like this, let alone how I somehow became a monster?"
"I don't know either but based on my statistics, you can pass the barrier on your own… your soul is not only human but a monster as well", explained Alphys.
"Wait a second… if I am a monster, and I have determination…"
Alphys knew where this was going.
"D-does that mean… does that m-mean I'll… I-I'll… melt?", asked Lincoln nervously.
"Wait… melting? Alphys, what does he mean by melting?", asked Undyne.
"Uhhhhhh, UHm… Um, first of all no", said Alphys quickly.
Lincoln was relieved.
"And second of all, I h-have done some r-research and monsters can't exactly withstand d-determination? They s-simply don't have enough physicality, a-and since Lincoln i-is also h-human he won't melt", explained Alphys.
"That's disturbing, how did you find that out?", asked Undyne.
Alphys froze.
"Uhhh she read a book about it yeah and she told me before, she hasn't done anything bad or something else uh yeah", said Lincoln in a very unsure way.
"Uh… ok?"
"Aaaanyways, we should probably all get going", exclaimed Lincoln.
"YEAH WE ARE BURNING DAYLIGHT HERE", shouted Papyrus.
"Papyrus there is no day or night in the underground", deadpanned Undyne.
"OH RIGHT I FORGOT"
"Hey Alphys, want to join us?", asked Lincoln.
"Uh.. sure, I c-can join", said Alphys.
"GREAT, THE MORE THE MERRIER", shouted Papyrus.
"Oh and Alphys, I have one more question", stated Lincoln.
"Yeah?"
"Where is Mettaton?"
"Oh… he's uh w-with the other monsters right now, h-he is trying to entertain t-them", said Alphys.
"I am guessing the monsters who are hiding from me", exclaimed Lincoln.
"Y-yeah, a-anyway, let's go-"
"WAIT A DARN SECOND!", shouted Papyrus.
"what is it bro?", asked sans.
"YOU GUYS STILL HAVEN'T EATEN OR AT LEAST TRIED MY SPAGHETTI", exclaimed Papyrus.
"Uhh can we do that later?", asked Undyne.
"WE CAN BUT NOW IS THE BEST TIME", shouted Papyrus.
"Uh…ok"
"GREAT!"
Papyrus ran to the counter and grabbed his plate of spaghetti, then he ran back.
"I ALSO BROUGHT SOME FORKS FOR EVERYONE", added Papyrus.
Everyone took the forks and papyrus handed them the spaghetti. They looked at each other unsure and then took tools a bit from Papyrus's spaghetti and ate it.
Sans made no expression, Undyne tried to smile, Alphys attempted to swallow, and Lincoln tried his best to not make a face.
The spaghetti was disgusting and barely edible.
"SO HOW WAS IT?", asked Papyrus.
"I-it's good Papyrus s-so good", stuttered Alphys.
"Yeah it's the best thing in the whole world", said Undyne trying not to gag.
"it's honestly just g-great", lied sans.
"WOWIE I'M SO GLAD YOU GUYS LIKED IT! WHAT ABOUT YOU LINCOLN?", asked Papyrus.
Lincoln couldn't contain it anymore, he walked to the nearest trash can and puked.
"UH"
"Are you ok Lincoln?", asked Undyne.
Lincoln stopped puking.
"Yep, that spaghetti is just as bad as last time I tried it", exclaimed Lincoln.
"WAIT WHAT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?", yelled Papyrus.
"I mean that, I don't like your spaghetti at all…", said Lincoln as he realized how rude he was being. "I… mean uh, it's not terrible but it's not my type?"
"SO YOU HATE IT…", said Papyrus as he somehow didn't seem upset.
"I- Uhh well… yes…. Yes I do hate it, it's barely even edible", exclaimed Lincoln.
"Lincoln, don't you think you're being a bit rude?", asked Undyne.
"Uh, I'm not even sure anymore", said Lincoln.
"DOES EVERYONE THINK THE SAME AS LINCOLN?", questioned Papyrus.
Everyone began to slowly nod their heads.
"HMM, OK… I GUESS I WONT ADD SNAILS NEXT TIME", shouted Papyrus.
"Wait… snails!!??", shouted Lincoln.
"YEAH, I THOUGHT THEY WOULD MAKE THEM GOOD BUT THAT WAS CLEARLY A MISTAKE, THANK YOU FOR BEING HONEST WITH ME HUMAN- ERR UH LINCOLN", thanked Papyrus.
"Uh… you're welcome", replied Lincoln. "Just why? Why would you add snails out of everything else", exclaimed Lincoln.
"I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION SINCE SNAIL PIE IS SO DELICIOUS", shouted Papyrus.
"We'll just because cheese balls are good doesn't mean they will be good on a cake", said Lincoln.
"i had no idea what lincoln was comparing but i still understood his point, just because one thing is good on something doesn't mean everything will be good with it, except for ketchup everything is good with ketchup", explained sans.
"Um… ok, anyways… we seriously need to leave now, we answered all of our questions correct?", asked Undyne.
Everyone nodded.
"Ok great! Now let's head out"
And with that everyone began to walk out of Alphys's lab.
Until Lincoln got a phone call…
So I wrote all of this at school somehow and if it is choppy that's why. Please ask questions if you're confused. Well good day.
