It's been a.. definitely over a week, you think, since you first fell asleep up in Sun's room after all the gifts. You think it's Tuesday today.
Moon did finally come back sometime that morning - Sun mentioning him returning while you and him were cuddled up the other night, you fast asleep in his arms. His chest is so warm.
Moon of course was a little upset that the lights were on while you were asleep, but, you assured Sun that you didn't really mind when he brought up Moon's concerns while the kids were watching a movie. Surely Moon was listening in as well. The blankets and burying your face into the Blahaj between you and Sun helped considerably.
All those days ago, Sun said Moon wasn't very talkative when he returned, just suddenly noticing his presence at first. It took a few more hours for Moon's curiosity of the surroundings he was quietly observing through Sun's eyes to grow overwhelming. He worked up the courage, and Sun vaguely explained that you brought gifts - not satisfying exactly what those gifts were. Sun was still a little upset at him, and besides, he liked surprises.
In the early morning after Sun retrieved you some water and you finished waking up a bit, he took his time to bring up Moon being back, and him wanting to come out so he could experience everything Sun did just the day before. You were more than happy to see him again, but, Sun was.. unusually hesitant at first. You asked what was wrong a couple times before sighing, and assuring him you won't make him uncomfortable by pressuring him if he didn't want to explain.
Maybe Moon would talk to you about it?
It took a few minutes of what you assume was him communicating with Moon inside his headspace, making subtle expressive movements and hand gestures that you barely noticed while they talked. You took the time to pick out an outfit for the day, and to verify where your sun and moon earrings were in your backpack so you could clean and put them on sometime later. Eventually, Sun slumped, turned back to you in the bedroom, and slowly shrunk his rays before giving you a nod and looking over to the light switch that'd shut off the main overhead light. It wasn't enough, but Sun finalized satisfying the necessary light level by turning off the lamp in the corner next to the tube, beginning their transition.
The fairy lights provided just enough light for you to see, yet your eyes still needed to adjust to the dark a little, eventually meeting his white pinpricks.
You swiftly approached him and fell into a hug, which he slowly returned, taking a few seconds for you to feel his large hands at your sides wrapped around you. You expressed your concern and asked what was wrong, to which he assured you in his deep soothing voice everything was okay. He ran small circles into your back as his arms squeezed around you. You dug your head so far into him, but he just wouldn't budge. He grinned looking down at you, a soft smile faintly reassuring him of everything being okay. The fairly lights gently sparkled around the two of you, and as you pulled away, the light reflecting in your eyes reminded him of the stars you showed them the other day.
He stared down at you, all while you were expressing worry. He shushed you and calmly explained how he was just.. taking a break. The pause between his excuse cementing the lie he pulled. You didn't believe him, of course, and you frowned at his blatant dishonesty.. but, hopefully after seeing everything you already revealed to Sun, he'd brighten up a bit, and maybe open up.
After your pout definitely didn't change his mind, you excitedly showed him what was already in their bedroom, from the Switch to the Blahaj as he smiled and chuckled softly at the shark. After you were finished, you took his hand, and urged him out into the hallway. Making sure all the lights were off before you pulled him through, you backed up through the doorway and into the main room with both his hands in yours - facing him. You wanted his smile to grow larger than it was currently. You knew it could.
You spun around and began to reveal everything from the books to the little indoor garden. He studied the books closely, flipping through the pages without a word. You explained what the books were about despite it being explained clearly on the title and back with each one he picked up. He eventually sat them down, and slowly raised his head up to you. He hesitantly pulled away from your eyes to observe the rest of the room. His nightcap's star swung with the sudden stop of his head. He tilted his faceplate just slightly after slowing to static, noticing the two lava lamps decorating the wide fold-out desk, bubbling spectacularly. You adored his eyes brightening and burning intensely with curiosity. He shuffled a little closer to them, baggy blue pants dragging against the hardwood. You followed and peered around at him. Orange and purple reflected so prettily off his faceplate and in the dark void that made up the rest of his eyes. There's so much more in the room than he's used to - there used to only really be plushies and boxes - only ever being here to charge or when Sun would organize kid's drawings and art projects left behind. Sun didn't like taking stuff from the Daycare and elsewhere up to his room before, and would always scold Moon for trying it anyway after returning the decorations, and.. other things Moon brought. From the kid's pictures now littering the right wall, to the same sparkling fairly lights here that were strung up in the bedroom, it was a lot to take in as he first entered. If your smile wasn't so charming he'd have noticed the lamps sooner.
He took his time absorbing in the room, and you took your time caressing his large hand in yours, ribbons tickling your wrist. He liked the new ones you picked out for him, and is more than happy to try them out. He took a specific liking to the gold and black ones, the gold matching the stars on his pants and bells you helped him re-attach to the ribbons.
You explained everything to him without him asking. He didn't say a word the entire time though, and it was starting to grow worrisome. You weren't that admirable to him, right?
He eventually met your eyes again, and expressed the robot equivalent of a sigh through his voicebox as his eyes lidded. He took your hand, and guided you over to the old pink and purple beanbags once occupying their bedroom, now here.
Not a word.
He sat criss-cross into the purple beanbag, and gently guided you down into his lap, your back against his chest.
His arms wrapped around your tummy, and his faceplate lowered to lightly rest on top of your head.
After a few minutes of silence, he hums, and gives in.
"..Mmh.. Why did you do all of this, Starlight?" His grip tightens around you a little.
You lean a little more back into him. "I wanted to. You have so little. You deserve to be happy.. I want you to be happy.. duh."
He sighs. "So much.. no.. After such little time, you're being so silly. So silly.."
You giggle a bit. "Yeah, well.. these last two weeks feel like it's been months." You rub your eyes, it only being about half an hour after you woke.
In your lap, his hand plays with the ribbon on the other - the one that was once around your neck before he decided to remove it on the arcade's dance floor.
"..We fell far too quickly. I'm sorry."
His hands stop fidgeting, and he holds one still around the other's wrist. You tilt your head up a little, reflexively wanting to look him in the eyes despite his head resting on top of yours. "What are you sorry for..? I.. know it's been a lot, but.. I'm glad we got here. I'm glad we've come this far."
He doesn't let you look up at him, it'd probably be uncomfortable anyway without him voluntarily leaning forward and over. He hums as the beanbag crackles with his legs closing in closer around you. "Afraid to lose you, Limelight. It goes without saying, but.. Mmh, loss seems to follow us. Don't wanna.. hurt like that again, no.. Confliction." He pauses to think."I.. like you, so very much, and of course, Sun does too, yes.. You, Starlight, are the best thing that has ever happened to us. Naturally, the worst would come from losing you."
You take a moment to process that, but, luckily resolve comes quickly, and you tuck your fingers under his hand to squeeze it. "..Are you glad that our time together has happened in the first place..?"
He gently squeezes your hand back, dwarfing it as fingers enclose it entirely. "..Mhm. Of course."
You lean into his arm. "That's all that matters. I wouldn't wanna risk changing a thing if that meant I couldn't be here with you right now. I'll fight to make sure we'll be okay, and I'm sure you two will as well. The future will be there for us, I'll make sure of it, okay? I-I promise.. I promise."
He doesn't need to look down at you in his lap. He feels your pinky wrapping around his, and he curls it back around yours, solidifying the promise for the foreseeable future.
You could feel him vibrating against you. A soft, quiet, purr-like noise emanates from his voicebox. You stayed there for a bit, and you both treasured the embrace. Just, don't fall asleep again..
He never understood what humans meant when they'd say they got butterflies in their tummy, but, whatever their CPU simulates in moments like these with you, is what he correlates it with.
His chest feels tight despite nothing in there having the capability to contract. He's felt this before with you too, but it's still surprising every single time. It's so surprising what you've done to him. So strange.
That acceleration of his fans, the energy pulsing through him as he defies gravity in the pitch dark is all too familiar however. So familiar.
His wire is silent while it supports him, he floats in the air, swimming under artificial stars above the dark Daycare.
Far below him, his target is locked in black and white, crimson red eyes observing his objective clear as daylight. Every single breath it takes, every single muscle it fidgets.
He grins cheek to cheek, weightless, so many meters above the ground.
He falls.
He dives.
He suddenly stops a foot above the security desk.
Your hands flinch off the keyboard, and you jolt backwards with a scream.
His nightcap flutters for a few seconds as he hangs upside-down, giggling while you clasp your hand at your chest and collect yourself, slumped back in the chair.
You settle your breathing.
You sit up, and slam your hands onto the desk as you lean over towards him. "You are SO lucky I haven't disabled your filter yet. I'd curse you out so.. fricking much. Jesus, why!?"
His faceplate turns to be rightside-up with yours, and his eyes flicker to white. He chuckles deeply, still hanging upside-down about a foot above you from his wire. "Mmh, well if you insist on staying up so very late, then you should be alert, yesss? Are you alert now, Limelight?" His grin is so fucking wide.
You scoff. "Aren't you supposed to be encouraging me to sleep!? I.." You check your watch, your laptop beneath you as you lean over it. "..It's not even midnight yet. I'll get to sleep before then. I'm almost done with this portion of your code."
He hums, and adjusts himself in the air to act like he's laying on something, hands cupping his faceplate, elbows supporting them against nothing. His feet behind him bend up almost to his head. "You're very persistent. Mmh, more fun this way, yes.. Are you suuuure you don't wanna get ready for bed? We made a deal. I'll even hum a lullaby for you if you agree to take a break now~."
You scowl at him before rolling your eyes and leaning back to check your screen. You save the work, and sigh before connecting with his eyes again. "..Are you done with your patrols?"
He giggles, and taps his chin before spinning his faceplate in a silly, dramatic emote. His nightcap flutters and he leans in. "I can observe the Plex via the cameras, silly little thing. Have you forgotten? Are you considering getting ready for bed~? You must be soooo sleepy, mhmm."
You break eye contact with him as he cups your chin, leaning in and tilting his head curiously. You sigh, and wrap your hand around his wrist. Your fingers brush up against the purple and blue bead bracelet you made him with April's bracelet gift box over the weekend. Sun's yellow and red one is on his other wrist. You sigh, and press his hand away, returning yours to your chest after his ribbons gently run over the top of your hand. Crossing your arms, you sigh. "..Maybe. Let me.. uh." You hum, going through your head to prepare for your nightly routine. You begin to zone out as you close your laptop, inattentively take a sip of water, and walk out from behind the security desk.
It was certainly.. weird, at first, but, the past few days, you've finally grown almost accustomed to pretty much living in the Plex.
It's absolutely absurd, you're aware, but.. everything works out, surprisingly. Wendy and April have taken in Mimi. You're of course able to leave and get food, or stop by your house during the day if necessary. You already finished the leftovers from before your date with them, and the food here isn't that great.. But, yeah.. most of your time since Sunday of last week has been spent in front of your laptop going through certain portions of their code and planning the Glamrock's 'strike'. You'll figure out the documents and forging stuff over the next few days, but you've already figured out how to start an artificial fire in them, on stage, in front of potentially thousands of visitors. Freddy volunteered, of course, and it'll certainly do no harm, but you're still figuring out the specifics and polishing everything. You and Dom already put together a fried PSU that will act as evidence to their overuse - forcing management's hand to shorten their hours of operation. If absolutely necessary, you can fry one internally while it's inside one of the Glamrocks. It will absolutely shut them off, and likely hurt due to the overheating.. but, Freddy isn't very opposed to anything you've brought up. Anything.
With a bit of luck, you can dumb down the explanations while still keeping the absolutely massive impact of how advanced they are, and how that affects their ability to work for prolonged hours.
The forged documents and physical evidence of malfunctioning would be enough to make your point, but, just for good measure, publicly igniting one of them on stage in front of a live audience that definitely snuck in some cameras would assure success.
You're probably gonna work on an Excel document or something to that will explain the effect of repairs and maintenance if hours like this are kept up - it being less expensive to simply shorten their hours, or have them preform in alternating groups, rather than fixing them each time a power supply fails. Money would be a heavy factor in the decision, especially since the power supplies the animatronics use are insanely expensive according to records you got from Wendy.
You didn't do all of this alone, of course. Dom helped you figure out how to realistically damage the power supplies and provide a believable explanation as to why they'd be failing - that being the amount of power their operating system actually consumes. Without forging anything whatsoever, their neurological hardware requires more power than they use physically walking around.
The prolonged demand from necessary processes plausibly overheats and damages their power supply units. However, in reality, their PSUs are the most advanced you've ever seen. You're not very educated in electrical hardware, but Dom says he hasn't seen anything like it, even today - and the animatronics' hardware here have to be only a few years old. Who knows how old their software is.
You were really hesitant on trusting April at first, but.. after testing her about how she exactly feels about the animatronics here, she quickly brought up Wendy telling her what you brought up in the hospital - sentience. They also did some digging into logs they're not supposed to have access to, discovering various employees being fired and sued into the ground on the spot for no disclosed reason. Wendy easily found the employees and what happened via the provided names and personal information. She found articles that didn't get too much attention, of a few previous employees arguing that the animatronics are actually alive. The second they had any real evidence and went to the media or publicly spoke out about it, they haven't had a career close to what they were qualified for after the company was done with them.
Your trust in April, and certainly Wendy shot up a little after that.
Vince is gonna help you access physical documents sometime in the next few days. You talked with him last week on Tuesday about what you're planning. You're gonna have to check the Warehouse, and actual offices around the building. Security stations should help grant some guidance as well. Wendy really wanted to help you, but her and April usually only deal with stuff online. They have no idea where anything physical might be, but they know it's here, since the other manager, Damien, collects printed documents at the end of each week. April at some point got him to spill and mention they only keep them in filing cabinets. Something about it being dusty and annoying to cart the cardboard boxes to. Wherever it is, they're probably contained somewhere fireproof and insulated. You'll find them. You just hope they don't ship them outside of the building.
You've only seen Vince while running into him around the Daycare area. It's been so busy. Him and Kieran now do security on the first floor, which includes all of the Daycare and Entrance. Kieran hasn't been much of an issue, and you've ran into him a few times as well. You haven't talked, but, the looks he gave you stuck with you. Not necessarily anything relating to anger or disgust. Just.. pity? It's weird, and awkward. They're both on alternating schedules, so their shifts rarely line up with each other. Probably for the best, but then again, Vince tends to try and keep Kieran in line.
Vince texted you a week ago around Wednesday about Stella. She's not getting out of the hospital soon after all. Her Ulna healed incorrectly, and she got Pneumonia. They had to re-break the bone so it'll heal properly. It wasn't fun. Vince is upset that she might've got sick from him, despite her lungs being bruised in the crash. Your doc lectured you all about your own injuries from your accident, and you're lucky you didn't get Pneumonia. The titanium splints in your ribs have helped considerably. You'll likely need to schedule a follow-up in a few weeks to get them removed, though. You made sure to console Vince that he's not to blame in the slightest.
Sun was pretty upset at the news of Stella, but he's been supplying a steady stream of stickers whenever Vince was nearby. He even had Moon deliver them occasionally, which Vince talked about a bit in text.
He's been kinda unsettled by Moon, almost like Moon was trying to be intimidating - sneaking up around him, towering over him after slowly walking towards him, not saying a word while simply staring into his eyes as he passed the stickers with a blank face. You talked with Moon about it earlier, and he's.. definitely acting up on purpose. Jealousy or possessive behavior, you scolded him lightly about it, but it didn't seem to get through.
Sun also definitely updated Moon on the meeting you had last Sunday. Especially how Kieran acted. You can imagine how pissed he is about that, but you've already told him not to worry about it. You thought he listened.
Vince, the other day, eventually brought up Kieran complaining to management about Moon stalking him at night. Whenever he'd get the chance, whenever it aligned that Moon was out and not occupied with you or the kids, and Kieran was working, he'd be watching.
Vince eventually texted you a few days ago with an update. Moon threatened Kieran.
Kieran said Moon cornered him. He didn't lay a hand on him, but, Kieran told Vince that Moon warned him that if he continues to cause problems, he'd 'satisfy him and create problems'. If Kieran isn't lying, Moon sheathed his claws and confirmed to Kieran that Sun blacking out certainly wasn't the only concern he should have, especially if he insists on poking around in places he shouldn't. Especially if he insists on continuing his annoying little brat act.
Moon didn't like how long Kieran stayed in the security rooms on the camera terminals. He didn't like how much he lurked around in storage.
You scolded Moon a little harder about this. His silence and lack of objection to when you brought it up confirmed Kieran surprisingly wasn't lying. You made it very clear to him that this is not his concern, and you've already taken care of it. He was just creating more problems, which he has absolutely no reason to be. You were.. unsettled. You asked him what exactly he meant with Kieran, and all he returned with was wanting to make sure Kieran doesn't cause any more issues. He wants to protect you. You made it very clear that there isn't going to be any issues, that you'd be fine. You made it very clear it upset and worried you more than you already were. You wanted to talk. You wanted to know why he was out the entire day after Sunday morning. You wanted to understand what he's upset about and communicate with him to hopefully find a solution together.
He acted like nothing was wrong, and dismissed the concern. You were mad at him for a couple days after that. Over the weekend though, you slowly warmed back up. Moon has been trying to do the genocide route for Undertale, to Sun's dismay. Sun completed the game already, fully pacifist. It was nice. You really liked watching him. They both seem to adore it.
Still, everything festered in the back of your head. You pushed it down, and locked the box for another day.
You've got enough to worry about now, anyway.
So much to do. So fucking much to do.
Above everything else, you're working on finding Sun's 'virus'. Anytime you make a little bit of progress, as in.. clearing a section of their code that you thought would be promising.. you take a bit of a break to work on the Glamrock situation.
Freddy understands, and you are making progress both ways, but.. gosh are you stressed. Everyone is stressed. Ugh.
Dom is trying his best to make Freddy comfortable, and coordinate if any of the others need anything. He's always there for them. He genuinely cares. Him and Freddy get along really well, and you're glad that the Glamrocks have someone else looking out for them when you can't.
Of course, yeah, that includes Monty too, but.. he hasn't been very active lately unless he's forced to do something. Dom described his behavior currently as lethargic and apathetic. Monty never used to let people in his room, but, he doesn't have any issue with Dom for some reason. Most days he'll clean up the greenroom as Monty spaces out on the couch or is absent, likely lurking around Monty Golf. It's a depression den. Not that you really feel bad for him, after everything, but.. even Monty? Dude's personality is just.. 'asshole'. You haven't seen him since you reverted his soft reset. You guess after him being stuck in around a week of that, and being forced to perform way more often recently, even someone like him would break. Despite how worried Dom is over him, you don't want to feel bad for him. You won't. He almost got you killed. You're not going to forget what he did.
..Luckily Roxy and Chica are doing a little better. Last weekend, Roxy took Chica to the cupcake shop and Dom messed with the STAFF bots there to be on standby mode for a certain amount of time. Chica felt better, and subsequently, so did Roxy. Dom says her baking is far better than what the STAFF bots automate now. He's definitely not wrong.
Sun and Moon have even volunteered to do something with the theater - since it also can be used to conduct plays, which Sun, and surprisingly, Moon, are pretty excited about performing if possible. Sun rambled to you about taking the kids with him when they'd put on the play, so not only could they watch over the kids, (likely your help, of course) but also bring in extra profit for the Plex via a new attraction. You'll definitely bring it up to management when your cards are all laid out for the Glamrocks.
You always kinda had it in the back of your head that they had more potential than just babysitters.. gosh, all of them do.
It's such a mess.
At least Sun and Moon can take care of the kids without your help usually. They definitely adore the Elefun thing you got them, and you've been wanting to get another oven-bake-clay kit so any newer kids can also make something out of clay and bring it home after you take it to bake in an oven. Sun obviously couldn't go do it himself - having to stay and watch the kids, so you volunteered. The first time Sun coordinated the activity, they had a blast, and their clay sculptures were messy, but charming. A few of them tried to make a rough replica of Sun's face, one kid creating one of Moon. Sun took photos of them with his Polaroid camera you got him. It was really cute. You wanna involve yourself more, but.. you've been busy. You've helped around the Daycare a handful of times, and you've been giving the kids some attention when they'd sneak past Sun and show you drawings or ask you to play tag or hide and seek with them. It's a nice break between working for almost 12 hours straight at a time. Even if those breaks have become far less frequent. Sun really did want to talk to you any free chance he got when he wasn't wrangling and entertaining kids or cleaning up messes, but, he eventually accepted how busy you were. That didn't stop him from making sure you were okay, however.
You've got bags under your eyes. You're conforming to the signature look of the few human employees still working here.
Sun and Moon both have been.. really worried about you. Sun has been bringing you snacks and encouraging you to stretch and eat actual meals, while Moon has pestered you incessantly about resting well and making sure you're comfortable, both while you work, and whenever you do take breaks. You've got a pile of plushies beside your chair and two blankets draped over it. They've even helped with your laundry, doing it wherever the machines are in this place, so you always have comfy clothes.
He's carried you up to their bedroom about five or six times since last Monday after you passed out at the desk. They've definitely helped you.. relax. In a few different ways.
Moon is far too good at cuddling. Laying across his chest as he hums and plays with your hair. His internal fans spinning at minimum RPM to allow warmth to build up is.. definitely something you look forward to. Only reason you obey him, otherwise, you'd be on monster energy and 0 hours of sleep. Sun mentioned 'cuddlebug' programming at some point, which unfortunately conflicts with Moon's usual touch aversion. Luckily that aversion is mostly non-existent with you. He can't get enough hugs and snugs when you're around. It never will be enough.
Sun even has the Daycare Theme permanently lowered a bit, and has turned it off quite often during certain activities. It's cute, but.. it definitely gets annoying. You don't really mind the kids, and just put in earbuds and play music while re-educating yourself with Google and skimming through terabytes of folders at a time that might be promising.
The colors are all so very bright sometimes though.
You yawn.
You think you're done ruminating.
You didn't notice him come down from his wire. He snaps you out of it as his hand traces over your ear, and to the back of your head. He approaches closer in front of you, and bends down to look you in the eyes. "..Mmh, Let you what? Do you want help with a shower again, Starlight? I'd be moooooore than happy to assist you~."
You blink a few times before fully returning. "A-ah, no.. uh, I-I, I think I'd be up longer if you helped me, duh.."
He grins. "Mhm. Which clothes would you like?"
They've been helping you, picking up on your routine as it slowly develops. Sun would always have water or juice for you in the morning, and Moon would make sure to retrieve your clothes and make sure you're not forgetting anything before getting the bed ready while you showered.
Charging only really takes an hour, although they remain in the pod longer if it's unnecessary to wake up. Regardless, they certainly prefer sleeping with you. They have far better luck actually 'sleeping', and sometimes even dreaming that way. They'll charge an hour before the Daycare opens at eight, and you're usually awake by then anyway, thankfully having a relatively okay-ish sleep schedule thanks to Moon. You may be really stubborn, but he somehow gets you into bed despite you trying your best to get only about three hours of sleep each night so you can work some more. Persistence.
He makes sure you get at least seven. You made a deal after all. Ready for bed before midnight.
It's Tuesday night, about a week and two days since Moon returned. He's grown really good at getting you to bed consistently, and he adores how much progress he's made. You're around his finger.
You stretch a little and struggle answering, being interrupted by a yawn. You request the clothes you like, which will be on the bathroom sinks after you're finished. Luckily the showers and actual bathrooms have separate lights, so him flicking off the lights to enter wouldn't suddenly leave you in total darkness.
He smiles, and leans down to kiss you on the top of your forehead. "..Be quick."
You hum, and sluggishly turn to shuffle towards the showers.
Moon crawled through the tube after tending to the little indoor garden. You got Sunflowers and Moonflowers for them, of course. The Sunflowers need a bunch of attention from the grow light, and the Moonflowers will require support from stakes as they bloom, but, Sun and Moon seem to be taking really good care of them so far.
Your hair is still wet from the shower. Your towel is draped over the pillow as you lay with YouTube autoplaying silently on the television, it and the fairy lights cutting through the darkness.
You turn and smile over at Moon as he unfolds from the tube, standing at his full height in the dark bedroom. You open your arms and signal him into the bed he barely fits in.
He doesn't waste any time, sliding into the bed and sitting against the wall under their bulletin board of gifts and pictures. He gently wraps his arms around you after pulling you against his chest. Your eyes are suddenly heavy.
He plays with your hair and you rest your head sideways laying against his chest, arm draped over to his opposite side. The bead bracelets you made for them click ever so faintly.
You hum, and wake yourself up enough at the reminder. You look up, and you're able to meet his eyes upside-down. "..Oh. I think I have something else for us coming tomorrow."
He tilts his head above you. "Us?"
You grin. "Mmhm.. you'll see tomorrow. It should've been here a lot earlier, but.. I don't know, shipping delays?"
His voicebox hums deep enough to feel the vibrations. "..Do you like testing our patience?"
You giggle as you adjust yourself back to the comfy position on his chest, your legs snug against his baggy pants. "It's pretty fun.. telling you guys I got you something a bit before.. Sun's reactions are cute too. Unfortunately you're a little more patient."
"We'll remember that. See how you like it, mmh.." He rubs small circles into your back before enticing goosebumps as his fingers trace a little lower along your spine, stopping after he deviates to your hip, and squeezes bare skin.
You're so fragile to him. You giggle weakly, not sure how to feel about his little threat. He'll leave it all up to your imagination for now. You relax into him, and he pulls up blankets over you, making sure you're completely tucked in against him. You make a satisfied little noise which he grins at, admiring you from above. You yawn. "..Mhm.. Goodnight, Moonie.. Love you."
He holds your head against him, using his thumb to caress your temple down to your jaw. "Love you to the Moon and back, little star. Rest well."
You softly giggle before surely slipping out of consciousness in just a few minutes.
They've learned so much with the books you gave them. Moon's fascination with the astronomy ones is notable, since, he finished them all and apparently memorized each page within about two days after you got them. He mentioned at some point him and Sun didn't know that just the moon revolved around the Earth, excluding the sun - which the Earth revolves around. You were pretty surprised by that, for obvious reasons. There's so much they don't know. There's so much they've been denied. You've been answering so many questions in the little time you've been free this past week or so, especially for Sun. You eventually kept your guarantee that you'd lend your phone to them to learn anything they want to learn, given Sun's poor raging curiosity. He's brought up things he's learned with incredible excitement any chance he gets, making sure you're aware of it too. From terrifying tornados to the trillions of pieces of artwork across the internet, he's admired it all. You definitely had to explain some things to him, and make sure he doesn't stray into toxic territory, since.. the internet, but, nothing has been too troublesome lately. You keep him on safe sites. Not that they need to be sheltered, but, the internet can definitely suck sometimes. You made that very clear before allowing him access. Moon did already educated them both on, y'know, birds and the bees and all that. You remember them mentioning at some point sneaking onto the internet here, apparently a really rare occurrence for whatever reason. Probably since the WiFi network is restricted here to a degree. Moon probably found some employee or visitor's laptop. Both to educate themselves in lewd stuff, and understand your contract and what bound you to the job, which, Moon said was somewhat illegal in the first place. If you really wanted to, you could fight it in court. Likely the only reason it's held up this long is the company's shady lawyers, fear tactics, and fine print. Regardless, you're definitely not going anywhere.
They've been growing, a lot. It's been noticeable, despite how busy and distracted you've been lately. Sun has become a lot more confident in himself. His stutter is more controlled, and he's a lot more sure when talking to parents when they come to pick up their kids. The other day, a parent came down to the Daycare doors, walking in, and tapping on your desk while you were nose deep in code. It took a few seconds for you to snap out of it, and the parent did not seem happy. Luckily, before you could groggily ask him what he was doing here, Sun intervened. The parent, here to pick up their kid, didn't check in at the counter upstairs. He was pissed, especially at Sun. He ordered him to retrieve his daughter while making remarks about what you assume was the video which was leaked. He referred to Sun as dangerous and reckless, but, even before you jumped in to ask him to leave, Sun gifted the kid a sticker, and smiled while calmly and professionally addressing the parent's concerns and asking him to leave. "Your behavior is not very nice, I think you should leave now, friend, yesyes." It was definitely a difference. Of course you consoled him after, since he didn't feel too well about it, despite handling the situation perfectly in the moment. He seemed to be okay, with your help. You were proud of him, and you made sure to let him know. He adores your praise.
Moon is a lot more expressive in general. Especially around you, and even with the kids, he's definitely not afraid to be a little silly. For about a week now, you've occasionally been torn from your computer screen during naptime by laughter and him doing silly little acrobatic poses like bending backwards and pulling his head under his legs for the kids. He's so much more animated, much more lively. Expressive. His lullabies and stories from Sarah's books he brought down are enough to put even you to sleep when he recites them to the kids. Sometimes, you did fall asleep.
His handwriting is really cute. Sun was right, he is really good at writing. Some of the poems don't really make sense to you, but, they're pretty. They don't need to mean anything to you, as long as they have meaning to him.
He encouraged you to give calligraphy a try at some point, but, you didn't get close to how pretty his comes out. You brought up him having way better fine motor control, to which you also gave him an example for. You showed him how humans sway and twitch ever so slightly when attempting to stay perfectly still, eventually it leading to him pressing down at your wrist, compressing the tendons, causing your fingers to curl. Despite knowing human anatomy, they're still entranced by it. He could play with you for hours.
For now, he simply took your hand, and guided it carefully. You held the pen, while he guided your hands and fingers. It came out a lot better, but, on your own, you're no where near his level. He's really good at it. It took some time for him to get the hang of it at first, but, once he got the ball rolling, it snowballed.
He practices a lot. You caught a peek into one of his journals unintentionally, it being left open at their little desk. There had to be a couple hundred lines of a quote, written in different styles of handwriting. Something referencing Undertale. Something that might have stuck with him.
"Do you think even the worst person can change? That everyone can be a good person, if they just try?"
Sun's drawings are really pretty too. He likes the coloring books, you're definitely going to need to get some more soon. Moon's almost done with the crossword puzzles already too. It makes your heart so warm with how much happier they seem.
Gosh, you just.. adore them.
Just watching them exist is enough to brighten your day.
Your soft grin eventually fades as your thoughts race inside your head. Your adoration of Sun and Moon, polishing and executing your plan for the Glamrock's tomorrow, and finding what causes Sun to black out somehow.
His lullaby begins, and you listen while your heart burns bright and your eyes grow so very heavy.
You melt into him, and drift away like the leaves, Autumn taking its course.
