Chapter 4: Rescue Efforts Underway. A State of Emergency is Issued.
The tornado continued through a good portion of the area before finally dissipating. Once it was over, houses had been torn to shreds, trees and power lines were knocked over, and several people were injured. Many people were also missing.
Near the drive-in, a shelter door opened and out popped Eric.
"Man, that tornado sure did a number." he said as he surveyed the damage.
He then climbed out of the shelter and was followed by several other people. They looked around at the damage and were shocked. Several things had been blown around by the tornado. There were trees knocked down like dominoes, a ruined brick wall, even a car gone through a window.
"I hope no one was hurt." Connie (Brick) said as she approached Eric.
"We should probably search to see if there's anyone buried underneath all this rubble." Gus (Reflux) said.
"Okay, you guys check around here, and I'll check the theater." Eric said as they split up.
The Wannabes, along with Winston, looked around the rubble and checked for any people that had been hurt. Thankfully, most of the people they found had minor wounds, but some had major wounds. There were injuries such as concussions, impalements, and deep lacerations. The heroes made every effort they could to help those hurt. Some of them were able to bandage injuries, but they had to hand others over to doctors for treatment. Anyone who wasn't injured they sent to emergency shelters.
Meanwhile, Eric noticed the Parr Family's car as he helped people at the theater. He rushed over to it and saw they weren't inside it. He then heard knocking from inside the nearby shed and went to go see what it was. He found the hatch to the shelter and opened it, seeing all the people who had ducked in.
"Jack-Jack!" Eric said as the woman handed Jack-Jack to him.
"Where are his parents?" he asked as the people came outside.
"They went to help others, but they didn't make it to the shelter before the tornado hit." said a woman.
"So, they may have been flung by the tornado?!" Eric asked.
"Maybe, but hopefully, they're okay." said the elderly woman Dash and Violet had helped.
Eric bolted from the theater after giving directions to shelters.
"This is a Search Code Red, guys. The Parr Family, save for Jack-Jack, is missing. We need to spread out and look for them." Eric said.
"Sorry, Eric, we have several people who need rescue and treatment. The police and paramedics might not be able to spare anyone either." Krushauer said.
"Man." Eric said before he got an idea. He then typed 9-1-1 in the phone. He was answered by a woman.
911 DISPATCHER: 9-1-1, what's your emergency?
CALLER: This is Eric, the guy who works with the Incredibles. We have a serious problem.
The call was being received by a woman in the dispatch center of Los Angeles. She had brown hair and wore a pink shirt and brown pants.
"Hello, Eric, my name is Maddie. You're doing good remaining calm. What seems to be the trouble?" the woman asked.
"The tornado blew away the Parr Family. They were helping civilians and couldn't get to the shelter in time before they were swept up by the tornado. The Metroville Police and emergency response teams have their hands full helping people down here, as do many of the Supers. Is there a chance you can spare some units?" Eric asked.
"I think we can. I'm contacting them right now, but it will take them some time to reach you." Maddie said.
"Cool. In the meantime, I'll start the search. Thank you, Maddie." Eric said.
He hung up and looked out into the town.
"Hang on, guys." Eric said before he headed off to begin a search.
