Chapter Fifteen
Meanwhile…
LA FBI building…
Sinclair sighed as he walked into the building, as he was feeling frustrated by the case, as they still couldn't get Ron Erickson yet, as he was still traveling, making him wonder what he could be hiding. He hated when people like Erickson get their way, as it makes cases like this that much harder to solve and, in some cases, go cold.
He was also wondering if Alan and Stan were even involved with this whole thing to begin with, since everything from their records indicate that murder and embezzling, but stranger things have happened. He did wonder about Agent Eppes, though.
From what the man had told him, they haven't seen each other in years, and he looked up phone records, and emails, which confirm it. The whole thing made David wonder what had happened between the two of them but, from what he had seen and heard about Alan Eppes, it was not hard to see why, as the man had some problems with the FBI and his oldest son joined the very organization and the two eventually just stopped talking to each other.
'That is really messed up' David thought to himself, given that also the Elder Eppes had never met his young grandchildren, either.
He was lost in his thoughts when he got to his desk, that he didn't notice Agent Lake approaching him, which startled him a little bit.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Terry said apologetically
"That's okay, I was just thinking about this case and how Alan Eppes even fits in all of this." David said tiredly
"Same here, I only met him a couple times at the academy, I never got the impression that he would be capable of all this." Terry said
That got David's attention.
"You knew Don at the academy?" David said, wondering why this hasn't come up but he supposed they were just too busy to even talk about it.
Terry blushed a little bit, as she knew she would have to answer, "Yeah, we dated while we were there, though it was just an academy thing, not much else."
David wasn't sure he believed that, given her tone and reaction and the fact she had just gotten divorced, though he kept that to himself.
"So…" David started to say, changing the subject, "Do you have any new information about the case? We aren't getting much from Alan, so what about Stan."
"Honestly, I doubt Alan is involved with any of this, apart from meeting with Erickson on that day, but with Stan, I think he is more involved than we think with the embezzling aspect."
"What makes you say that?" David asked, perking up at the possibility
"Well, unlike Alan, he has been taking some trips to Cayman Islands over the course of three years, something Alan didn't know about until we informed him yesterday, and Stan seems to have some family connections to the mob."
"That is worth looking into." David agreed, wondering how this changes with the case and what it means for the Eppes family.
They would also have to deal with other secrets Stan is hiding that brought him and Alan into this mess.
