Chapter 4: The Welcoming Feast
Part 2
Harry grabbed towards the chicken, grabbing the whole thing before anyone else. One minute later his plate was empty except for the bones.
"My gods! Harry, mate, chill out!" called Dean Thomas.
Harry let out a low growl. "I'm not your mate, and you're not mine." Harry said through clenched teeth.
"Oy, sorry ma- Harry."
"It's fine."
Dean turned to Ron, Seamus, and Katie to discuss new quidditch strategies.
Harry took the chance and stole a glance around the great hall.
Nope. No auras. Wait. What if they only came at midnight? I'll never find my mate!
But then suddenly the world was blinding! He looked and saw all the auras of everyone at Hogwarts. It was a whole rainbow, but with every colour you could think of, plus some.
He saw Hermione with a pale pink, and as he looked, he spotted a boy over in ravenclaw with the same one. Haha, guess he had some matchmaking to do!
On Ron he saw a (shocker) dark maroon aura, just like his yearly Weasley jumper. Looking around, he saw none other than Katie Bell with the same one. He really did have matchmaking to do then.
Neville had the brightest yellow he had ever seen. Who knew such a shy kid would have such an eye-catching aura? Looking around, he saw a beautiful Hufflepuff girl with jet black hair with the same neon yellow as Neville.
But then it was gone! He could no longer see the auras. He hadn't even seen his own! Well schnitzel. Guess he was stuck mateless still.
Draco Malfoy glided into the great hall just in time to see Potter wolf down an entire chicken. He had gained an appetite.
He sat down and was about to turn to Blaise and Pansy when Potter's eyes went completely white.
"What the…" he whispered.
He watched as Potter looked at Granger, and then at Arion Lafel, a Ravenclaw.
Then he looked at Weasley and Bell.
Then at Longbottom and a Hufflepuff.
Draco tried to recall how dragonborns (since he assumed that was what Potter was) find their mates.
"They look at auras…" he whispered.
"What was that Draco?" Pansy asked.
"Nothing."
Potter's eyes were back to normal when he looked back. He hadn't even looked at himself. Foolish boy. Now he would have to wait a month to find his mate.
"Well only time will tell…"
