Chapter 23

"You're sure", Kara asks.

Lena sighs, laughing, "Yes, Kara, I'm sure. While I would love to escape back to the cottage, you have articles to proof, and I have meetings and paperwork to catch up on from the last three weeks".

Lena walks over to Kara's bar stool, boosted by the height of her heels, and kisses the pouting blonde's head. Kara leans into the contact and gives a little hum around the bite of pancakes.

"I love you and I'll see you for lunch", Lena says, kissing her forehead again as Kara swallows the bite.

"Love you, see you then, and thanks for the pancakes", Kara grins, turning to connect their lips.

Lena responds fervently, hand sliding from Kara's shoulder blade to the nape of her neck, and Kara turns fully, pulling her wife between her legs.

They break for air and Lena, knowing she really should be getting to work, allows herself to be pulled back in. As soon as Kara's tongue traces her lower lip, Lena gives up all thoughts of keeping her lipstick intact as she gives her full consent and sinks further into the kiss. As their tongues, twist around each other, Kara's hand that was at the small of her back, pulling her in even tighter, moves to match the other on her hip, and Lena is thankful she choose slacks today as Kara effortlessly lifts her to straddle her thighs.

Lena breaks for air again, whining at the show of strength and Kara moves her kisses down the length of her neck, one hand steadying Lena as the other starts to unbutton her shirt. The feeling of Kara's warm knuckle dragging down her sternum pulls Lena out of her haze.

"Wait, darling", she starts but is cut off by a moan ripping its way out of her throat as Kara sucks on her pulse point.

Kara pulls back, a smirk on her face, "Maybe we can't go to the cottage, but can we go back to the bedroom".

Lena takes a deep breath, gathering herself and kisses Kara chastely, not allowing herself to be pulled back in, "you'd think after three weeks, even with your Kryptonian stamina, you'd be tired".

Kara's smirk turns serious as she leans closer, their lips nearly touching and says, "I will never get tired of you, and you're stuck with me now".

"That I am", Lena says, smiling, and connects their lips again.

Flashback

"This plane is awesome", Kara says, walking towards the bed, food cradled in her arms.

"I glad you approve", Lena says, sitting up, pulling the sheets with her and reaching for the bottle of water.

"This is already the best honeymoon ever", Kara says.

"Lots of experience in that area?", Lena teases.

"No!", Kara shouts quickly, "of course not… I mean… I just… this is".

"Breathe darling", Lena says, laying a hand on Kara's thigh as she settles in beside her, "I'm teasing but I wholeheartedly agree without needing a point of reference". Kara turns and they fall back into a deep kiss until her stomach growls. "Come on. I loaded enough snacks to keep you going and we can get a real meal as soon as we land, I promise", Lena says, holding out a bag of chips.

Kara kisses her again taking the chips and the newlyweds dig into the pile of food. "How long until we land?", Kara asks, in between snacks.

"Two or three hours", Lena says, "The pilot will give us a 45-minute warning. I figured that was enough time to get decent".

Kara blushes but agrees as she continues eating.

The two women are decent and ready to deboard as soon as the plane touches down. Kara insists on carrying the bags down the stairs to the waiting town car and Lena gives in handing over the large suitcase but keeps ahold of the smaller one. As soon as she steps out into the sun, Kara takes a deep breath, eyes closed, looking at the sky, feeling the energy soothe her. She hears Lena chuckle behind her and turns with an eyebrow raised.

"Come on, there will be plenty of time for sun soaking when we get there", Lena says, hurrying Kara down the stairs.

"Get where?", Kara asks.

"Where we're staying", Lena says, handing off the bag to the driver to load into the car.

"Which is where?", Kara asks, helping load the bags before following Lena into the back seat.

"About 30 minutes away", Lena answers.

"Rao woman, just tell me, please", Kara pouts, hooking her seatbelt and turning to Lena.

"Why do you even put on a seatbelt?", Lena asks.

"I dunno", Kara shrugs, "habit, set a good example, it's the law. Don't think I didn't notice the change in topic".

"It's a surprise and I don't want to ruin it, ok", Lena says, caressing Kara's cheek and kissing the pout away, "Can you make it 30 minutes?".

"I guess", kara says, kissing her again before pulling the seatbelt across Lena's lap, "I may be Super, but you should still wear a seatbelt".

"You'll save me", Lena shrugs, but allows Kara to hook the belt.

"Always", Kara says, "but still".

They continue their conversation, Lena doing everything she can to keep Kara engaged so she will stop asking questions and giving Lena that damn pout she still has a hard time saying no to.

"Mrs. Luthor-Danvers", the driver says from the front, as he pulls the car to a stop.

"Thank you, Conor", Lena says, unhooking her seatbelt and sliding out of the door after Conor opens it.

"Now can you tell me where we… woah", Kara says as she slides out of the car.

"You like it?", Lena asks nervously.

"It looks amazing", Kara says, kissing her before moving to take the bags from the driver. "Let's go break in the bed", she teases, wiggling her eyebrows as she walks towards the door.

Lena opens the front door and Kara follows her through.

"The bedroom is back there", Lena says, pointing at the hallway, "last door on the right".

Kara gives her a weird look, wondering how she already knows, but carries the bags back and set them down beside the bed. She does a slow turn taking in the decor of the room when she sees a picture of a young girl, about 4 years old, dark straight hair and green eyes she would know anywhere.

"Uh Lena", she calls.

"Yes darling", Lena says, coming into the bedroom.

"Whose house is this?", Kara asks, eyes flicking between the picture and Lena.

"Mine", Lena says, nervously.

"You have a house in Ireland?", Kara asks.

"I've always had this house", Lena says, "It's not the one I was raised in, but Lionel bought it years later, in my name, and Lillian never knew". Kara steps closer as Lena continues, "When I was looking for stuff about my mum, I found the deed for it. I had someone come out and tidy it up and I found some old pictures and stuff as well. I don't remember much but this stuff kind of reminds me of my mum and just being here". Lena sighs, tears welling in her eyes, as her voice cracks, and Kara steps forward to close the distance and wraps her arms around her. "I figured it would be a good place to lay low and no one knows we're out here", Lena says with a chuckle.

"It's perfect", Kara whispers into Lena's hair.

Present

After getting to spend three weeks in Ireland with Kara, Lena is refreshed and happy and feeling very loved and cannot for the life of her stop daydreaming and focus. Thankfully, she doesn't have any meetings today, she even thanked Jess profusely for the foresight, but paperwork is incredibly boring when all she can do is think about the honeymoon.

Flashback

After a few days of sex, sleep, and food, Kara is the first one to get bored. They spent the day out on the porch, both with a book, cuddled up on the loveseat. Lena had her glasses on and feet in Kara's lap and the Kryptonian couldn't focus on her book. Yes, normally, she would have loved to have just sat here with Lena, reading and just basking in each other's presence, but not today. Today she had a lot of extra energy and may have used a bit of superspeed to read extra fast.

Lena's focus shoots to Kara at the snap of the book as Kara closes it. "You're done?", Lena asks, brow furrowed.

"Yep", Kara says, popping the p.

"I'm a fast reader and I'm only seventy pages in and you just finished a 560-page book", Lena says, questioningly.

"I may have used a bit of superspeed", Kara admits, blushing.

"That's cheating", Lena says, her focus back on her book as Kara starts massaging her feet. Lena gets another 30 pages in before Kara is finger-drumming on her legs. "Darling", Lena says, a distinct Irish drawl on her words.

"Yeah", Kara says, her focus turning from the horizon to Lena.

"What's wrong?", Lena says, bookmarking her page and setting the book to the side.

"Nothing", Kara says, turning her attention away.

Lena shifts until she's straddling Kara. "Tell me", she says, lovingly.

The two stare at each other until Kara gives in. "I'm bored", Kara whines.

"Why didn't you just say so", Lena laughs, kissing the tip of Kara's nose, "What do you want to do?". Kara shrugs her shoulders and pouts, drawing Lena in to kiss it away. "We could go for a walk", Lena offers, "we can even take some food and make a picnic out of it".

Kara gets excited at the idea, "Oh yes can we please".

"Of course", Lena says, kissing Kara again, unable to stop herself, before getting off Kara. "As long as you carry the basket", she teases over her shoulder because there is no way she's wants to carry the amount of food Kara will pack.

Present

Lena smiles to herself at the memory of that picnic. The easy conversation throughout, the way they fell in stride together, hands intwined, with Kara carrying a huge bag full of food (they didn't have a basket big enough) and Lena carrying the blanket.

After they finished eating, they curled up together on the blanket as the sun set, talking and pointing out stars and Lena woke up back in the cottage, warm in Kara's arms the next morning.

"You're sure you can handle it", Kara asks, worried.

After a fantastic three weeks away, just her, Lena, and the Irish countryside, she was ready to get back to work. She spent the morning at CATCO, getting back in the thick of things after her time away. Everyone greeted her warmly and she enjoyed getting back to work, even if she was rather distracted by memories from the honeymoon. She was so far into one daydream that she hadn't noticed Nia until she pulled away, her dream energy disconnecting as she complained, "Oh gross. Really Kara, NSFW, geez".

Kara blushed as her focus turned to the young reporter, "well don't go reading other people's daydreams".

"Fair enough", Nia grumbles and they move on to the story Nia is writing.

A couple hours later, she was just on her way back from having lunch with Lena, a huge smile on her face, when her hearing picked up on Alex's rapid heartbeat, downtown, far away from home or the DEO. She fumbled for her earpiece and called in.

"We're fine", Alex huffs out, before turning to bark orders, "just another alien and all they want is you. They must have seen that apartment fire you helped with and figured you were back".

Kara had a restless first night back, running off to two fires and one crash. She hadn't realized it would broadcast to these aliens that she was back.

"They don't believe I'm off world anymore", she asks, nearly to CATCO.

"Nope", Alex says, "They must've seen you and figured it out".

"You really don't need help", Kara asks one last time, but her question is answered by Alex's order for the team to move in after the alien went down.

Kara sighs, disconnects from the comms and pockets the earpiece.

Promptly at five, Kara heads home, choosing to walk as she needs to clear her head and in case any aliens are watching.

She gets home to the delicious smell of Lena's cooking on the stove and her beautiful wife, curled up on the couch in glasses, sweatpants, and Kara's NCU hoodie.

"Hey darling", Lena says, bending backwards over the end of the couch to look at Kara, "Woah, bad day".

"No, just feel a little weird", Kara says, kicking off her shoes, and heading to Lena.

Lena sets the book aside as Kara lays down, her head in Lena's lap. "What happened?", Lena asks, her fingers carding through Kara's curls.

"You know how I went out last night", Kara starts.

"Yeah, you came back reeking of smoke", Lena teases.

"You wouldn't had to smell it if you'd let me shower", Kara retorts.

"We both know it takes several showers to get the smoke smell out of your hair", Lena smirks.

"You just wanted your personal heater back", Kara teases.

"Alright, you got me there", Lena holds her hands up in defeat, "Forgive me for wanting to cuddle my wife on our first night back from our honeymoon". The new title draws huge smile to both their faces as Lena leans down to kiss Kara. "Feel better now?", she asks, eyebrow raised.

"A little", Kara says, raising her head as she pulls Lena back down for a much deeper kiss.

"How about now?", Lena asks.

"Closer", Kara says and both women laugh and smile into the kiss, teeth knocking together but they don't care. "I love you", Kara says, laying her head back on Lena's thighs.

"I love you too", Lena responds, "always. Now how about we eat, and you can tell me what's up".

Kara smiles, kissing Lena quickly before jumping up and rushing to the kitchen, shouting, "What'd you fix? What'd you fix?".

Lena smiles at her wife, glad the gloomy mood is gone but worried about what caused it.

AN: Sorry a short chapter but I'll make it up to you on Monday. I didn't want to write the whole honeymoon, but I also wanted to give some supercorp fluff before things ramp up again.
