Tonks's POV

This could only end poorly.

But how does one phrase that to the future-telling,(and very attractive) 17-year-old currently strapping two sleeping kids into the back of a flying car! To drive-fly? To travel cross country (cross-sky?) to a secret Rendezvous point.

Sabine looked slightly agitated, bill's worried rambling comments probably not helping. Her hands shook as she buckled them in, eyes flitting to the door every five seconds.

What if we got caught?

Mr. and Mrs. Weasley we out right now, but they could get back at any minute?

And what would they think? Three teenagers creeping around their shed in the pitch darkness, loading to kids into an illegal flying car that they were about to steal?!

Nothing good.

"Tonks? Tonks!" Sabine snapped, drawing my attention, she now sat in the front set, staring at me impatiently.

I slipped into the passenger seat, sending bill a questioning look?

Was this going to work?

"Send me a message when you get there, I'll cover for you, don't worry. The cars safe- relatively speaking, and-"

"Bill?-" the dark-haired seer interrupted, reaching out to take his hand.

"Thank you for doing this. We'll be okay."

Whether she actually believed that or not, bill seemed to calm down.

"Ya, of course! Seriously though, tell me when you get there!" He called, running a hand through his hair and pushing away from the car window.

"I'll open the shed door and you'll be good to go. Just remember, when your below the cloud line, turn the invisibility on so you don't get seen!"

And with that, he pushed the door open and Sabine started the car.

"Ever drove before?" I asked cautiously, wondering why I hadn't asked before this point.

"Yes." She replied curtly, knuckles white against the wheel.

"When?"

"I used to hot-wire cars when I was younger, before I could apperate." She muttered smugly, giving me a side-eye smirk.

"Oh...good." I hummed back, gripping tightly to the armrests.

You are an auror-in-training Tonks! Pull your self together!

"Ready?" Sabine asked, revving up the engine with a roar.

"Not really?!" I called back, but she wasn't listening.

"Here we go!" She said, stomping on the gas and throwing the car into drive.

We sped forward, the field next to the Weasleys home bumpy underneath us. She pressed the notch on the side, heading straight towards the river.

We didn't start flying.

"Ah...Sabine?" I said, eyes darting from the oncoming river to her.

She poked the button again, nothing happened.

It was stuck.

"Sabiiine!"

The water was rushing fast as we sped forward, I turned away. We were gunna crash, we're going to-

Sabine slapped the button, pulling the wheel hard and lifting us into the air, bouncing us one last time as the back wheels hit the river bank.

I sighed in relief, flopping back into my set, with my eyes closed.

"Told you I could do it." Sabine hummed smugly, eyes on the open sky as we climbed higher and higher.

"Ya, if you call almost crashing doing it." I shot back, clicking my seatbelt into place.

"I had it under control, we were fine." She retorted, passing the cloud line and leveling out.

"Mmh. Alright." I rolled my eyes.

"I did!"

"No, you didn't."

"Did!"

"Did not!"

"Did!"

"Did Not!"

*yawn*

We pause in our argument to look at the back set. Harry had rolled over, our loud voices clearly almost waking him.

We drove in silence for a while after that, Sabine humming some muggle song I didn't know (being a half blood could only go so far, okay?) as I looked out the window.

The sky was beautiful, bright stars winking all around us as we flew. I'd never seen so many stars outside of astronomy before, the London smog blocking out any sky we could see from our flat.

Sabine spoke up first. "I wanted to uh, thank you, for borrowing your want last night." She didn't look at me, her face clear.

"And for not ratting me out to the ministry to I guess." She added after.

It felt odd being complemented by the dark-haired girl, the cold night air bringing pink to my cheeks.

"Your welcome, 'Bine" I replied, trying out the nickname.

She scrunched her nose a bit, but didn't say anything.

"Can I ask you something?" I pondered.

"Depends on what it is." Sabine said, eyeing me slightly.

"Oh, don't be like that." I chimed back, grinning at her annoyance.

"What are you doing?"

"Well, we're gunna be in this car for quite some time, and, I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend it in silence. So tell me about yourself! Unless..."

"Unless what?" Sabine asked, eyebrows raised.

"Unless you got something to hide?" I baited, taunting her.

"I'm currently driving a basically stolen flying car across the country to meet a supposed murder and his boyfriend and give them their kidnapped godson they saved. All while hiding from the magic cops.

But ya, I'm an open fucking book."

I laughed, she smirked, it was serene, just two teenagers.

"So can I ask?"

"You know what, sure. What else are we going to do." She hummed back, dipping back under the cloud line to check if we were still going the right direction.

"Why did you need to use my wand, why didn't you bring your own?"

She looked off for a long time, lips pursed and eyes regretful.

"I don't have one." She said simply.

"What do you mean?" I asked, face scrunched.

"The death eaters who captured me snapped it, I haven't been able to get a new one."

My eyebrows furrowed. "But the war ended six years ago, why haven't you gotten one?"

Again, it took her quite a long time to respond, her voice cold when she did.

"The trace."

"What?"

"When you buy a wand as a minor, they put the trace on it to stop you from doing underage magic. But that also means they could track me, and I couldn't risk that."

"Why?" I asked, staring at her.

The seer bit her lip.

"During the war, the ministry was desperate for any leverage against the death eaters, anything that could shift the war in their favor."

She paused there to take a deep breath, then continued.

"As you know, I have...visions. If the ministry found that out-"

"They'd take you." I breathed in horror, finishing for her.

"More importantly, they'd take Athena, drop her off at some orphanage god knows where. I would never see her again."

Sabine's hand had gone white on the steering wheel at her words.

I couldn't fucking imagine.

Without thinking, I reached out to grasp her hand, the one resting on the consul.

Time froze, so did I, waiting for her reaction. She was going to be disgust, I knew it. She was straight. Should I play it off?

"Your hands are soft." She murmured, gazing lazily ahead.

I blinked, staring at her.

Her hands were a bit more worn then mine, not calloused, but a little rougher, like she'd worked with them a lot. I liked them.

"Their soft and delicate, like rose petals. Ironic since your the farthest thing from a rose I've ever seen." Sabine went on, thumb ever so slightly rubbing my palm.

Now I was actually blushing, masking it by staring straight ahead.

We drove in silence once again, this time more peaceful and comfy.

At some point I must have fallen asleep, because when I opened my eyes again it was day break, Sabine smiling smugly at me.

It took me a moment to realize why. I'd fallen asleep on her shoulder.

My cheeks flamed as I apologize, which made her start to laugh.

It was a nice laugh, slightly deeper then mine but light. It reminded me of my mother when she played cards with my dad.

I was suddenly hit by the urge to make her laugh again, and again, and again for the rest of our lives.

Where the bloody fuck had that come from?! I thought frantically, looking out the window to hide my flushed face.

She literally has no interest in you! Hell, she hardly knows you and tolerates you at best! What the bloody hell are you thinking?!

"Hey, if your over your little mini meltdown, we're here."

I turned to see the little minx fucking smirking at me.

Oh, she is SO doing this on purpose!

"Okay, let's get this family reunion started" I replied as we started out descent.

Sweet Belgian Waffles! I love them so much their so cute!
