Of course, no one can remember everything when they go on vacation. Especially not a honeymoon. Other things to think about, right?

So, when the two stepped outside of the hotel room and were greeted by buckets upon buckets of pouring rain, Lena's jaw dropped.

"No," she breathed. "No fucking way. NO fucking way did I not look at the weather forecast. THIS ISN'T HAPPENING!"

They'd been so excited about the trip that they'd forgotten to plan their days around the weather. Now, the day's events were in the tubes. Well, their dinner meal was still on - that would be easy enough - but what Kara wanted to do - really wanted to do - was out of the question.

Oakvale Farm was a place Kara had found on the internet when searching for ideas of what to do in Australia on their honeymoon. In fact, it was the very first things she'd found. And the last. Kara's discovery had gone something like this:

"LENA!" she'd screamed, upon finding the website, causing Lena to bolt into the room as though the house was on fire.

"What?" Lena had cried. "What? What?"

"LOOK AT THIS!"

"Look at what?" Lena huffed, irritated that she'd nearly shit herself but relieved that there was no crisis.

"ANIMALS!"

"Kara. Stop. Screaming."

The blonde blushed and looked down, mumbling, "Sorry."

"It's okay," Lena sighed. "You just scared me, sweetheart. Show me what's going on. What about animals?"

"There's this place called Oakvale Farm…" Kara started hesitantly, twitching with restrained excitement as she turned the computer to face her fiancé. "They have tons of animals and you can pet them!"

Kara squeaked at the end, no longer able to contain her unbridled glee.

"Um… Are you telling me that you want to go to a farm on our honeymoon?" the celebrity gaped. "Seriously?"

"Lena, please? I'll do anything. Anything at all. Please!"

"You can go to a farm here any day, Kara. We're not—"

"They have kangaroos! And lemurs! And dingos!"

With a heavy sigh of resignation, realizing that Kara would never have this opportunity in the States, Lena conceded, "Fine. But just half a day. I'm not spending—"

"Thank you, Lee! Thank you so much! The roos just wander around outside chillin' and you can feed them! And if you do a dingo or lemur encounter, they let you into the enclosure to feed them too! Can we do it, Lee? Can we do an encounter?"

Rolling her eyes, Lena asserted, "Pick one. Not both."

"But… But…"

"Kara. One. I don't wanna spend an entire day at a fucking farm."

"But Lena," Kara whined. "They have baby dingos! And the lemurs will eat right out of your hands!"

"Oh, my God," the star groaned. "You're fucking spoiled, you know that?"

"Wait, does that mean—"

"Yes. Yes, okay? Yes. But I'm not touching dirty animals. You have fun. I'm gonna just stand there and supervise and make sure you end up trying to smuggle a dingo through customs. Now, hush about it."

"YOU'RE THE BEST!"

"Yeah, yeah. I know. Settle down."

But Kara was grinning from ear to eat, unable to contain her bubbling excitement.

So, when the day came to see the animals at Oakvale Farm, Kara was positively exploding with delight. At least, until they stepped outside and found the pouring rain. Lena was not only pissed about her negligence to look at the weather but also the fact that she knew how disappointed Kara would be. It wasn't like they could walk around a muddy farm while it was pissing down rain.

When Lena looked over, her face hot with fury and shame, Kara was crying.

"Oh, honey… I'm really sorry… I—"

"You didn't even want to go!" Kara snapped. "Don't pretend like you even care."

"Whoa, hey. Not cool. I know how much this means to you, okay? It's not like I fucking planned this, okay? I made a mistake by not looking at the weather, and I'm really, really sorry, but I promise you that I honestly wanted you to be able to do this. I care about what you care about. I want you to be happy. I'm sorry, Kara."

"This is bullshit," the blonde said, choking on the words as she clenched her fists.

"Sweetheart… I… Maybe we could—"

"Fuck it. It's fine. Just forget it."

But when Kara turned to head back into the hotel lobby, Lena gave one glance out the door at the rain before grabbing her wife's wrist.

"Wait."

"What?" Kara snapped.

Taking in a breath to steady her resolve - the following idea was the last thing she wanted to do - Lena told her, "Let's go anyway."

"Lena, it's pouring. We're gonna get soaked."

"We'll get ponchos."

"What?"

"Ponchos. You know… Those things you wear at Disney World when it rains? To keep you dry?"

Lena almost smiled at her own sassy response.

"I know what a fucking poncho is, Lena! But it's not like you're really gonna wear one. You—"

"I what, Kara?"

"Listen… I'm not trying to be a dick… but you're more of a… Louis Vuitton, Gucci, don't-get-me-wet kind of girl…"

"That's fucking mean, Kara. I'm not stuck up like that, and I'd like to think you know it. Christ, Kar. I thought you knew me better than that. Do you really think I'm that much of a prick that I won't even get wet in the rain?"

"You'll ruin your hair."

"Enough. Stop being an asshole or I'm going back inside. Do you want to see the animals or not?"

Wiping her eyes on her sweater, Kara sniffled, "Yes, please. I'm sorry, Lena. I just thought—"

"I don't mind doing this. It's not, like, the best way I imagined doing this. But… for you, I'd do anything. So, please stop shitting on me, and let's go do this."

"I'm sorry," the blonde repeated, looking as ashamed of herself as she felt.

"Let's go."

The two left for the farm in the rain, each pulling the hoods of their sweaters up over their heads. Lena had, of course, agreed to dress down, so to speak, for the farm, not wanting to dirty her nice clothes, so it really worked out. And they'd each brought a change of clothes for dinner, so that wasn't an issue.

By the time they arrived at the farm, Kara was bouncing in her seat.

"Lena, look!" Kara squealed, pointing to the fence. "Roos!"

Her wife couldn't help but smile. Kara sure was cute when she was excited. Kissing the woman's cheek, Lena tugged the girl out of the car. Obviously, Kara's first instinct was to bolt for the front gate, but Lena held her wrist and laughed.

"Hold your horses, kiddo. Take it easy."

But Kara ignored her and pulled her along to the front door, where they purchased their ponchos and asked about the animal encounters. Thankfully, both encounters were still running. The woman at the counter took their money for the tickets and the animal encounters politely and smiled at the couple.

"You two just got married, didn't you?"

The newlyweds smiled, and Lena asked, "How'd you know?"

"You're both glowing. Congratulations, you two."

The employee handed over the tickets with the private encounter times on them and passed Lena the receipt.

"Ma'am," Lena said, brow furrowed. "You didn't charge us for the tickets to get in, only the two encounters. And—"

"Again, congratulations," the woman said brightly, winking at the two.

"Thank you," Kara said sincerely. "That was very sweet of you."

"Go have fun, ladies. We'll see you back for the lemur encounter around 11:00 AM and again around 1:00 PM for the dingos. Enjoy!"

Kara grinned and started to tug her partner through the lobby and to the door leading outside, but she was quickly distracted by something she'd just barely seen out of the corner of her eye.

"Lena!" she cried, dropping the woman's hand and rushing over the large wooden bin full of stuffed animals. "Look!"

Kara held up two plush stuffed animals. One was a kangaroo with a baby Joey in its pouch and the other was an admittedly adorable lemur with a long, soft tail.

"CAN I GET THEM?" Kara shouted, far louder than she'd intended.

Hearing her own volume, Kara blushed, turned her head to find the employee they'd met smiling at her, and looked back at Lena with glossy, pleading eyes.

Lena shook her head.

"No, baby. We're going out in the rain, and—"

"But Lena! They're so cute! I want something to remember our trip! Please, let me get them!"

Laughing, the brunette explained, "I'm not saying you can't get them. I'm saying, let's wait until we're on the way out so they don't get wet outside. Okay? We'll come back through and pick them up when we're about to leave."

A grin spreading quickly over her lips, Kara bounced on her heels and nodded, "Thank you, Lee! I love you!"

Shaking her head, Lena added, "You know you can buy what you want, don't you? You don't have to ask me to buy a stuffed animal. You have plenty of—"

But before she could say 'money,' Kara interrupted, "I know. I just didn't want you to think it was stupid, and—"

"Come on, goober. Let's go see the roos."

Kara dropped the stuffed animals abruptly back into the bin and beamed, rushing out the door with Lena in tow.

The kangaroos were more captivating than Kara ever could have imagined. If her excitement was great that morning, it was even more intense now. Seeing the beautiful creatures, which were relaxed and laying on the wet grass watching the two girls, Kara felt as though she might faint from joy. Pretty much no one else was at the farm, likely due to the rain, so the newlyweds essentially had the whole open field to themselves.

"You okay?" Lena asked, noticing Kara swaying.

Nodding vigorously, the blonde's eyes went impossibly wide as one of the kangaroos approached her abruptly. Nose quickly nudging the bag of feed in Kara's hand, the roo then looked up at the woman with pleading eyes.

Grinning, Kara turned to Lena and exclaimed, "She's hungry!"

"So, feed her, you goob," the celebrity chuckled.

As quickly as she could, Kara pulled out a handful of food and held it out to the kangaroo, who took it gratefully right out of Kara's hand. The blonde nearly passed out from the bliss of it all.

"DID YOU SEE THAT?" she shouted with glee.

"Kara, shh. You're gonna scare them."

"Them?" Kara asked, looking at Lena and then back to the kangaroo, who was finishing off the feed in Kara's hand. "Oh!" she cried, noticing the other three roos that had approached.

Vibrating with excitement, the woman pulled out more feed, some in each hand after handing Lena the bag to hold, and held it out in a peace offering to the roos. All four in total took turns nibbling the food right from Kara's palm, and in that moment, Kara knew she couldn't be happier. Lena was there with her, and she was fucking feeding kangaroos. It didn't get much better than this.

Except maybe the wedding night. That was pretty explosive, Kara remembered.

"Try, Lena!" Kara giggled, beaming at her wife. "It's amazing! Their little whisker things tickle!"

"No way," Lena shot back, shaking her head. "No. Fucking. Way."

"Come on, Lee. They're so cute!"

"They're wet," the brunette huffed grumpily.

"You won't have this chance again," Kara warned her, tone suddenly serious.

Biting her lip, Lena realized that Kara was right and gingerly took some feed out of the bag. A kangaroo approached her from the side, and when she saw it, Lena's eyes went wide as well.

"Oh, my God. Kara. Look," she breathed softly, hesitantly holding out her shaking hand.

"Holy sh—" Kara started, seeing what her partner had seen. "She's got a baby!"

To her own shock and surprise, Lena felt her eyes welling with tears.

Kara was shocked by her wife's response, knowing that Lena generally wasn't interested in wild animals (well, getting dirty, really). But Lena kept her welling eyes on the mother kangaroo, never breaking gaze as she took the food out of Lena's palm.

"They're beautiful," the older woman managed to choke out.

Her wife couldn't help but smile. Suddenly, the experience was just as powerful for Lena as it was for her. Life couldn't be better.

"Yeah, they are," she agreed.

When her own four kangaroos had had their fill of food, lost interest, and started to hop away, Kara stepped slightly closer to the mama kangaroo, experimentally testing the distance. She knew better than to touch the Joey but bravely reached her hand out and patted the top of the mother's head. This earned no response from the animal, as she was focused on the food in front of her. Lena was still captivated by her and the baby.

"Sit down," Kara said, breaking the silence.

"What?"

"Sit on the ground."

"It's wet!"

"Sit on the poncho. You'll be fine."

"Why?"

"Just do it, honey."

Reluctantly, Lena flattened the poncho over her backside and sat down on the wet grass. The mother kangaroo resumed her feeding as Lena stuck her hand out again.

Without hesitation, Kara whipped her phone out of her pocket and snapped several pictures, then switched over to the video setting to capture the rest of the moment. By the time the kangaroo hopped away with her Joey safely in her pouch, Lena's heart was racing.

"See? Cool, right?" the blonde asked with a grin.

Lena said nothing but simply nodded in agreement. There was no denying that Kara was right. That had definitely been an experience. After the shock of the moment wore off, Lena stood back up and pulled Kara along to another part of the field where other kangaroos were laying under some trees.

"Your turn," she said, smiling at her wife.

"Huh?"

"Let's take some pictures."

"Okay!" Kara said happily, crouching down beside one of the roos and handing it the last of the feed from her bag.

Like Kara had, Lena took several pictures and a few videos of the moment before crouching down herself, on the other side of the kangaroo.

"Selfie!" Lena said excitedly, holding the camera out to put them both in the frame.

Kara was positively beaming in those pictures, looking happier than Lena had ever seen her - except at their wedding, of course. And Lena, to Kara's surprise, looked just as thrilled.

The lemur encounter was just as amazing, even in the rain, and they were both surprised when some of the employees took their picture with a professional camera while they fed the animals in their habitat. After taking a video of one of the lemurs munching on an apple, its long front teeth holding it firmly in its mouth, their session ended, leaving them both more than satisfied with the staff at the farm and the educational experience they'd had. They'd learned a lot from the staff, who had shared many interesting facts about the animals that neither of the woman had known before.

Despite being soaked from taking off the hoods of their ponchos to have their pictures taken, the two left the encounter feeling full of adrenaline and energy from their experience.

The dingo encounter, though, was very different. This time, it was Kara's turn to cry as the staff allowed her to hold on of the pups.

"Lena, can we have one?" she pleaded, tears of overwhelming joy streaming down her cheeks.

Lena - and the two staff members - laughed. One of the staff snapped a picture of the look of pure euphoria on Kara's face, capturing the tears as well. Then, the two got a picture together with the dingos. By the time they were done, Kara had to be dragged out of the enclosure by her wife.

"I don't wanna go!" the blonde whined.

Lena smiled, kissed her cheek, and said, "I know. Let's go get your stuffy, okay?"

Remembering the stuffed lemur and kangaroo she'd found in the gift shop was the only thing distracting enough to get her to leave the dingos behind. At least, after one more long glance of longing.

But before they could walk away, one of the staff members tapped Lena's shoulder and asked, "So, I heard you two are newlyweds. How would you like a private meet and greet with some koalas? It's feeding time, and we've got plenty of food for you to give them if you'd like."

Both women's eyes went wide with surprise.

"Wait, there's a koala encounter?" Kara gaped. "That wasn't on the website."

"Nope," the staff member confirmed with a smile. "They've shut it down for a while while they introduce a new male to the group. But I think you ladies deserve a special treat, don't you? After all, getting married is a great reason to celebrate with a bunch of adorable koalas, I think."

Kara and Lena nearly ran after the staff member as he walked quickly towards the koala enclosure, which was thankfully a covered enclosure. The two were then educated on the lifestyle of koalas by one staff member as they fed the animals and as the other staff member snapped photos of them doing so. Neither cried this time, but both looked thrilled as they enjoyed their special treatment.

When their day - which was decidedly not a 'half-day,' as Lena had demanded - was finally over and it was time to leave, neither really wanted to go. Even Lena was reluctant to walk to the gift shop, glancing over her shoulder at the kangaroos as Kara walked slowly towards the exit.

They were given several photos, printed nicely and put in decorated folders for display, and they loved every one of them. They'd come out perfectly, as they both looked completely overjoyed in every shot - especially the ones where the newlyweds were together. Of course, Kara then purchased her stuffed animals and lovingly tucked them into their backpack for safe keeping.

Thankfully, the rain had finally stopped, and the two were able to change in the bathroom on their way out without worry of getting soaked while making their way to the car. Dinner went well, but both women were exhausted from their day, so by the time they were full and content with their meal, they nearly had to roll themselves out of the restaurant and back to the hotel.

Despite being exceptionally turned on by her wife's revealing and perfectly fitted outfit, Kara was somewhat relieved that Lena let her off the hook that night. Instead of engaging in intimacy, they both passed out shortly after collapsing into bed, cuddled against each other, legs tangled tightly to keep them together throughout the night.
