Song of Lingit's Children- the Bird's Way

Nuriko Kamaiji

A/N: a week or so ago while I was re-reading MSAT I found myself struck by Binabik's song (and part story) about Sedda and the brief mention of the two children she kept, Lingit and Yana. (If you haven't read MSAT you might not understand this too well though I hope it's still enjoyable.) Anywho, it got me thinking about how, if humans and trolls were descendant from Lingit then he must have had many more children than Yana, the "matriarch of the Sithi". And since Lingit chose the bird's way, somehow this...simply made sense. I will admit I was a little sleepy when I wrote it but...I do like it. I'm hoping to add more on Lingit's other children later.

Boy that got long- also the lines inbetween signify spaces between paragrahps. Thank you.

Under-Ground is singing

In the deep black

Slumbering in shadows

Sleepers keep dreaming

Toumuq is guarding

Black gate to Dream-Road

Sheisut is messenger

Running along Dream-Road

Invisible spirit is she

Fox-daughter traveling

With dream-wishes

To wandering sleepers

Saw her in dreams

Toumuq's daughter

While sleeping he met her

'Stay with me always,

If you give me your hand.'

Spoke Lingit sleeping

Night-lord laying in dark

Heard Sedda's son call

Dreary, grey Toumuq

Ready to give daughter

To light's way

Away from the gloom…

Many eggs are hatching

Hatching as birds are

Break out of their shell

Fledging egg-born

Children of Lingit

Chooser of Bird's Way

Happy father is he

Lingit proud father

Seeing his children grow out

Smiling with wife

Smoothed-skin, Sheisut

Fire-red coat, fox woman

Seven hatched first

The eldest firstborn

He flew to the north

In the icy cold winds

Danced in the dew drops

Frozen on white-wings

Second child

Red-winged soared

Southward she went

Drawn to the heat

Warm light of the sun

She said it was good

Into the dawn's way

Deep past the forest

The old woods' heart

Beyond lands unknown

Third child, grey-winged

Took flight to the east

Following dusk's path

Over mountain and fen

Flew silver-wings

The smallest by far

Chasing the shadow

Of the sun as it set

High in the mountains

Secrets lay hidden

Fifth child, rust-winged

Soared to the heights

Tall in the clouds

From the bones of the earth

Sixth born, brown-wings

Flying soundless through

Woods and river

Still night watcher

He wished to keep silence

Kept to the heartwood

Running water bubbles

Coffee-winged child listens

Crying her song

Singing to twilight

She heralds the evening

Youngest child of Lingit
