A little insight on the very beginning of Cody and Squib's relationship.
The first time she sees him, she doesn't even know it is him. Looking back, she can vaguely remember seeing a blond flash as the students ran by her, but she's too preoccupied with the fact that there are a band of rich, young tennis prodigies running around covered in mud to notice him at the time.
The second time is by the wall. The wall she couldn't climb. He says nothing to her, but casts her a rather cocky smirk as he flies up the rope. She decides he's kind of rude. On the other side, he smirks again, bigger and more bold this time. 'Enjoy your crappy dorm, ladies!' he shouts as his friends cheer. She decides he's a jerk.
The third time, she doesn't even really see him, but walks past and catches a brief glimpse of him fighting with Sebastien. She can hear him mocking the new French student, and it makes her angry. Sebastien was the only one who had been nice, friendly, even polite to her. And here was this dumb jock ragging on him. She decides he's nothing but a mean bully and this whole experience will be a thousand times more pleasant if she never has anything to do with him.
When he and Sebastien make up on the court, surrounded by their friends, she decides maybe he's not so bad. Still arrogant, cocky, and a little rude, true. But not mean. And this will make it much easier for her to ignore him; if he's not picking on people.
When he compliments her on the article with everyone else, she warms up, but just a tiny bit. He's still a jock. He's still a jerk. Not much has changed.
The sixth time she sees him, he's playing the infamous Sunny Capaduca. He loses. Badly. She smiles from the stands; he deserved it, maybe this will knock him off his high horse.
The seventh time, they're walking down the hall and she is amazed when she finds herself laughing at his impression of Sunny. She promises herself it won't happen again. Even if she wanted it to (which she doesn't, of course), she isn't a jock, she doesn't play tennis, and she is quite sure he will never speak to her again.
So when Gary 'Squib' Furlong shows up at her door, she is shocked. And a little annoyed with his incessant ringing of the bell. She wonders whether she should tell him off, but instead responds with a quip to his 'vanity attack' remark. Well, at least he has a sense of humor.
They're sitting on the couch looking at her photos, and when he insists that they're not okay, they're good (really good), she feels something inside her melt. They share a quick smile, and a laugh over his and Sunny's game. She lets him keep the photos he wanted. Maybe he's not so bad.
When he sticks up for her in Bates' office, she has only seen him a total of 8 times before this. So she's rather shocked that he would take all the blame for all of it (and rather touched, too. Though she wouldn't admit that to even herself until much later). But she doesn't need some jock's help, so she quickly insists it was half her fault, too. They share another smile at being let off easy, and she realizes that her view of him has done a complete 360 in just two days. He's actually quite nice, once you get to know him.
So when she hears the doorbell ringing repeatedly, she tries to convince herself it's not him, but still has to stop herself from running for the door. She opens it and has spent so much time analyzing her new feelings for him that she isn't surprised when she feels about a million butterflies fluttering around her stomach all at once.
Cody Myers doesn't believe in love at first sight. That's just stupid.
Love at eighth sight, however…
Just a random drabble that popped into my head and wouldn't leave. Originally it was called 'At 7th Sight', which sounded much better, but I realized I had left a scene out, and we can't have that, now can we? If you guys like it, I may do one from Squib's POV. Read, Review, Enjoy.
