Vindication
by baru-chan

Sighing with satisfaction, I finish my task and step back. I have completed it at last.

Long have I been seeking a way to travel between worlds; so long in fact that I had feared that I would never find one. The concept was simple, the process complex; but I, with my intellect, have bridged the gap that separates distinct realities from each other. I have succeeded where others had not, and I am gratified.

Oft had I been mocked for my notions of different universes, that my dreams are but a fool's fancy. Let them ridicule me, taunt me; let them jeer at me all they want. They shall all find the folly of their ways. They cannot understand me. I do not expect them to. They are too set in their own views, too stubborn to appreciate the intricacy of the universe: too narrow-minded. They call me the fool, but it is they who are foolish. They had thought that my dreams were of little value, that I should redirect my attention to more useful endeavors. They have wronged me, and they shall pay for their foolishness. They shall pay for their rejection of knowledge.

Knowledge is not to be shunned. Instead, it should be embraced. Knowledge is knowledge; it does not discriminate right from wrong, black from white. They did not think of greater possibilities beyond the sciences of today. In rejecting knowledge, they would only be further entangled within the webs of ignorance. That mesh I choose to scorn.

They had wronged me. They had underestimated me. In the end, they will choke on the bitter words they had spewed from their scurrilous mouths.

Near the threshold between worlds, one thought resounds in my mind: I am Howell Jenkins and my destiny would not be denied.

Author's Notes: I've always thought that Howl is a very misunderstood guy, though I must admit that this piece makes him a bit OOC. Please tell me what you think; if there's anything wrong with this, don't hesitate to tell me!
