"What's that you're holding?"

"?"

"That." He pointed. "What's that?"

Rukawa looked down. "My cassette player."

"I know what it is," Mitsui snapped impatiently, "but why are you carrying that?"

"Music."

The older boy rolled his eyes. "God knows how I can stand talking to you." Stalking over to the other player, he grabbed the offending device.

Rukawa scowled, and held on to it tightly.

And so began a session of tug-of-war, with neither letting up.

"Okay fine," Mitsui sighed irritably, abruptly relinquishing his hold, "you can keep the stupid thing."

Rukawa sniffed and cradled it fondly to his chest.

"Why d'you keep the damn thing anyway?" he asked, "I bought you an ipod."

The younger brunette didn't answer. Instead he held the player even closer to his chest.

Mitsui rolled his eyes. "Whatever. I'll never figure you out." He turned to go. "Are you coming or not?"

Rukawa nodded, and followed obediently after his senpai. He loved his senpai, yes he did, but he wasn't going to give up his weathered possession for a newer model. He had a connection with it, sentimental shit though it was.

It was the radio-cassette player he'd been using when the ball had hit him square in the face and that he'd dropped as he fell.

That was when he saw his senpai for the first time.
