"I smile when I feel like crying." Edward admitted to the silent room with a forced grin. Roy's knowing stare caused Edward to unconsciously swallow. Edward forced his head downward to stare at the musty brown loafers covering his feet, and began wringing his hands nervously.
Roy stood up and walked over to the blonde boy to sit beside him. Edward managed a glance upward into Roy's dark eyes and was suddenly unable to look away. It was hard for him to believe only one of those eyes was truly seeing him.
Roy lifted graceful hands to quickly unknot the tie forcing Edwards hair into the ponytail. The blonde locks drifted gracefully across his shoulders. Edward didn't bother to stop the older man, just watched him with disturbed fascination as the Colonel parted his hair into 3 parts. Edward turning away solemnly, letting the calming sensation of Roy's touch sooth his aching heart.
The familiar braid was forming again, Edward couldn't remember the last time he had braided his hair. He only knew it was before he had disappeared to Munich. Edward didn't want to think about Munich. He leaned into Roy's touch and damned his eyes for fogging his vision.
A quick tug tied the braid off and Edward knew he had finished. Raising his head again, Edward turned around to thank the colonel but only got as far as the familiar small smile when a stream rushed down his cheeks and he decided to leave his thank you at that. He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Roy's middle, completely draping over the man. Edward clung tightly to Roy, feeling that releasing the man would mean loosing his home once again.
Roy's arms circled the sobbing boy's shoulders and moved his head to rest on top of Edward's familiar braided blonde one. He simply breathed as Edward hiccupped into his chest. Unable to believe the moment the two alchemists smiled at one another and cried.
