When Paths Cross

Disclaimer: I don't own any of these OTH characters, as much as I'd like to.

Author's note: Okay, so I got the idea for this story, thinking 'what if' things were reversed…kinda. Please tell me what you think, and whether or not I should continue it! Thanks!

"Damn Simon Cowell anyway. What does he know? I'm good," Nathan Scott walked out of the American Idol studio, furious. He should be glad, right, that he'd made it to Hollywood. It was a lot further than most ever got. 'I just wish I'd made it to the voting stage. The people would've loved me.' Nathan walked a bit further in the direction of his hotel while thinking about his return to Tree Hill. At least people at home recognize his talent.

Nathan sat down on a bench in the park, thinking about what this meant for him. Dan, he refused to call him dad anymore, would love this. He had said Nathan would never make it. It wasn't because he didn't think Nathan has no musical talent, it was because Scotts are supposed to play basketball. Sure, Nathan was good at that too, great even, but it wasn't what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

For the first time since sitting down, he looked up. Nathan laughed, he'd been trying to get away from it forever, but now, on the same day his dream was yanked away, here it was, taunting him. A basketball court. 'Maybe,' Nathan thought, 'maybe it's a sign. A sign saying I'm meant to play ball, not sing.'

It was then that he saw her. He moved closer, watching as she effortlessly sunk shot after shot. She exhibited a level of grace and poise unlike anything he'd seen before.
