Rain washed over his aching body as he looked out at the scene before him. Fire burned the houses in the small town. The thatched roofs went up in flames in seconds casing the men and women who still lived to panic, running around like chickens who's heads had just been cut off. Chaos was everywhere and the hot light of the fire did nothing to help the humans' mind set.
It had started to rain soon after the raid had started, forcing some of the younger vampires to take shelter in the near by woods. Now the fighting was over, the dead had been killed and the living would live and those who had been taken hostage would soon die. Their lord had asked for new captives and His children would comply. All six of Kain's sons left with their own children to please their lord, eager for praise and willing to sacrifice a few of their own brood for their lord.
Maybe if Kain knew what it was like to lose one of His, He would not be so quick to make His lose theirs.
Water had started to make its way into his thick leather boots and the leather fastenings on his armor. A chilly wind came up and would have made him shiver if he had not felt so drained and numb. He had lost many children over the years to the hands of the humans, but this time was different. This time it was some one he cared for deeply. Some one he had cared for. In fact it was some one who he himself had hand chosen from another raid. Some one he had trained himself in fighting and survival.
This was not suppose to happen. Not at least to him.
"Rahab?"
He heard the sound of hooves sticking in wet mud. His brother sat on his horse next to him, Raziel's voice full of pity and sympathy. How could one be sympatric to some thing they had never felt?
"What is it?" Even to his own ears, the hollowness and pain in his voice was glaringly obvious.
"There is nothing any one can do. The rain is coming down harder and most of the children must get to better shelter."
"… I know."
"Do you want to stay here?"
Some thing was running down his face that was not the rain that had started to come down in sheets. His throat hurt too much to talk so he nodded.
"Would you like me to stay?"
Pain in his chest started to spread to the rest of his body. He could not hold back the tears that had already started to mingle with the cold rain. In a chocked voice, he said, "Yes."
He heard the horse's hooves move closer, making more noise in the mud that was closer to a lake now. A warm arm snaked its way around his shaking shoulders.
"Rahab my dear brother, we are still young. As much as it pains me to tell you this, but you will lose many children in future raids. You can not let this consume you." Raziel pressed his own head to his poor brother's and sighed. "Remember, no matter what happens, I will be here for you."
"Thank you," Rahab managed to say around the sobs that racked his body. Looking up at his older brother he said, "I do not know what I would do with out you, Raziel."
AN: I don't know if this is about the capture of one of Rahab's children or about the ultimate death of Raziel. shrugs Oh well. Please R&R and any CC is much appreciated.
