"Hermione!" Her hand was going limp in his. Her eyes were dulling. Her essence – her pure Hermione-ish – was not in her expression as she looked up at him.
"Ron…" It blew across him, as if it were a painful breeze. He felt it hit his heart. "I'm dieing…"
"No… Hermione, please. Don't…"
"Ron!" It was Harry. He put a hand on Ron's shoulder and peered down at her, with bitter regret and pain on his face. "Ron, she is dieing."
"I'll be fine," Hermione said weakly, her body feeling like liquid. "I'll be fine. You go defeat Voldemort for me, Harry, and I'll be fine in a minute…." Then her voice faded and she was gone. Just like that! One minute she was alive and full of life, emotions and thoughts, and then she was dead and empty. She suddenly wasn't Hermione anymore. Hermione was dead to the world.
"No!" Ron turned to Harry with wide, open eyes. "She's not… Harry?" His voice was like that of a child.
Harry said nothing, just watched the realisation fall.
It did fall. Ron crumbled to the ground, his face cracking like glass. Then he was crying.
Harry put his arms around Ron.
It hit Harry then that this was the first time he and Ron had ever hugged.
It was the first time Harry had ever seen Ron cry.
Had Ron loved her?
Harry watched the wedding. Lavender really did look beautiful.
"She's like an angel," Ginny murmured from beside Harry.
Yes, Lavender was Ron's angel. She had saved him, saved him from himself, saved him from the pain.
Ron looked so old in his dress robes, and so happy. His smile was so big, it crinkled up his whole face. He took Lavender's hand when she reached the end of the aisle to be with him, and he didn't let go of that hand.
Harry doubted he ever would.
But, just near the end of the service, Harry saw Ron cast just one look to the ceiling. To Hermione. There was a deep sadness in his expression, an emotion to painful for words. But, when Harry blinked, it was gone and Harry might have thought he had imagined it.
If not for the fact that Harry knew his best friend better than anybody in the world.
And he knew that Ron had loved Hermione.
And that he always would.
Because Love doesn't die.
Excuse the Drabbles. I'm sick and bored. Whatcha think?
