Summary:
Now she'll know just how he felt.
A/N:
This is just an angsty little Ava/Johnny ditty that popped out
after the 'spring finale'. I never planned on writing Summerland fic,
but when the first line came to me, it was out of my control. ;)

Even as she cried, she couldn't blame him.
This is how he must've felt when she rejected him. Johnny was a good man, but he'd almost been too good. For countless years she had treated him like a doormat, she saw that now. She relied on him to always be there, no matter what she needed.
And he always had been, without question. Until she'd literally run him out of her life.
Her stubborness had always been her downfall, and that was no less true in this situation. She was so determined that Simon was perfect - that life with Simon would be perfect - that she had never considered how wrong life without Johnny would be. In a way she shouldn't have blamed him for not stepping up sooner. He was always there for the kids, and whatever they needed as a family, but she was a grown woman. He expected her to make her own decisions, and if Simon was it, then he wasn't going to get in the way.
At least not until it was almost too late. When he finally said something, she'd gotten angry. Simon's proposal was nothing permanent, but she still couldn't give in. He could admit what was going on, but she sent him packing, and it was over.
Except it wasn't. Ava was starting to wonder if it would ever be over between them.
Mona was aggressive, she would have to give her that much. She had Johnny, and she was willing to fight for him. Ava had a grudging admiration for that, but the other part of her wanted to smack the other woman. She knew it was jealously, something she should've realized a long time ago.
She also realized she'd been playing an almost sick game with Johnny for so long that she'd started not to notice. There was no use ignoring how devoted he had been to her, she had known it. She had known it, and most of the time she used it against him without a second thought. She would never have manipulated him on purpose, he had just become this safety net she couldn't seem to get along without.
It looked like she would have to now. No matter how much she needed him, or the fact that she'd realized she was still as in love with him as ever, he wasn't going to play the fool anymore.
He wasn't going to come running every time she called, no questions asked. She had made a terrible mistake, and she knew she might have to pay for it for the rest of her life.
The tables had turned, and the odds were no longer in her favor.
