King Elessar's First Winter

The new king of Gondor sighed as he watched first snow fall of the year. Memories of winters in Imaldaris flooding his mind. He couldn't believe that it hadn't even been a year since his coronation and he was already up to his neck in things he had to do, and learn, about his new position. He had preferred it when he was simply Estel, or Strider, or even Aragorn son of Arathorn. But now he was King Elessar of Gondor. "At least Legolas, Elladan and Elrohir will be here soon." Aragorn muttered to himself. He deeply missed his brothers and friend. He hadn't seen any of his family, except Arwen, since his coronation.

Suddenly he felt a small tug on his tunic. Surprised at being caught off guard Aragorn turned around a little quicker then he meant to. "I'm sorry your highness, Queen Arwen told me I would find you here," said a shy voice. Aragorn smiled at the little one. "That's fine Kirwen. I was just admiring the first snowfall of the year. What was it you wanted?" "Well" she said somewhat hesitantly, "my friends and I were just wondering if you wanted to join us in a snowball fight. Of course we'll understand if you are to busy." Kirwen quickly added. "Not at all young one, I would gladly join in your snowball fight!" Kirwen smiled, the new king was much nicer than the previous Lord Denithor had been. Denithor wouldn't even allow the young ones on the top story of Minas Tirith. Talking to them would never have happened. But somehow the new king made time for everyone.

Aragorn played outside with the younger members of the big city before Khildîn came up to him. Aragorn, not fully thinking, nailed him in the face with a snowball; laughing at the look it put on his captain's face. This only earned Elessar a returned snowball, which hit him square in his open mouth. "Ahem," said Khildîn, straightening up. "I just came to inform you that there are three elves who will be reaching the main gates any minute." An evil smile quickly formed across the new king's face as he rallied all of the snowball fighters to him and he explained his plan.

The children of the white city were eager to help their king with his scheme. They quietly hid behind their forts waiting for Aragorn's sign. Aragorn signaled for the gates to be opened and stood waiting for his friend and brothers to enter. Legolas slowly walked up to Aragorn, knowing him a little too well he asked his friend. "What is it that is so funny Strider?" Elladan and Elrohir were surprised that Legolas could tell that Aragorn was laughing, since their little brother was doing an extremely good job of hiding it. "Welcome back my friends!" Aragorn said quickly, trying to suppress the laughter that was quickly overtaking him. At his words about forty snowballs came flying at the elves from every direction. Knocking them off balance from their surprise and covering them in a wet blanket. "Only you would come up with this!" Legolas shouted as he chased his friend back into the city followed by the twins and a mob of children. Everyone in Minas Tirith enjoyed seeing the king so involved in the city. King Elessar had been everything the city needed and hoper for. Maybe even more.
