Steel blue eyes,
Cold and unchanging,
Boring into mine,
Burning my mind.
My face grows warm,
And he looks away,
Trying not to notice
How I looked back at him.
No one must know
How we feel.
If anyone did,
Everything would fall apart.
So we must not even know,
Must not let it show,
Forget how we feel,
And ignore the pounding of our hearts.
I act as though I am a child,
Clinging onto him,
Pretending it is nothing more
Than a schoolgirl crush.
If they ever knew
How deep this relationship was,
I know,
They would keep us apart.
As long as it is pretend,
They think it's all right.
He shows no interest,
So what is the harm?
But if it ever became love
They would have to tell us
The horror
We already know.
I put my arms around him,
And he pries me off,
But there is a secret smile
We share.
He'll talk to me later,
Tell me how dangerous it is,
That perhaps he should go on another journey,
And I'll stop him with a kiss.
He'll cry like he did
When we first found out
That we were more than just lovers.
He looks into my eyes,
I look into his,
And those eyes hurt,
For they are my brother's.
