Summary: "Someone to protect… Is there such thing?"

One shot.

Hao's P.O.V

'Something to protect... Is there such thing for someone like me?' I thought to myself.

Anna Kyouyama once asked me, "Hao, what are you fighting for? Do you have something or someone to care for?".

I could never answer a question like that. What is important to me is a mystery.

I am now facing Yoh and those weakling friends of his.

"Stay back Pirika, I don't want you to get hurt!", I heard that Ainu boy tell his sister.

"Miss Jeanne, please try to protect yourself from danger. I can't risk you getting involved in any of this.", said the green haired kid from England.

"Yoh, don't worry. We'll cover your back!" exclaimed the deep haired Chinese.

All of them, they're protecting who they care for.

'What about me?' I asked myself as I looked at my hands; the hands that were usually dripping with blood of those who I have slayed.

'Ha!... What am I thinking?' I thought. "Someone like me can never protect..." I whispered before I sighted Yoh and his companions ready to be killed by me.

"Are you all prepared to go to the depths of hell?" I confidently asked them.

"The only one that's going to hell is you, Hao!" Yoh screamed at me.

I could feel him slightly trembling with fear; but what was it for me?

"Spirit of Fire!" I called out and behind me it appeared. I jumped onto it's shoulder and grinned at the group below me.

"Let's make this quick, shall we?" I said.

Spirit of Fire let out a burst of flames straight at Yoh.

For a second there my heart ached a bit. It stopped when I heard a sudden cry. The Ainu had jumped in front of Yoh to receive the attack instead.

"Horo!" they shouted as the foolish child landed meters away from them.

"Baka!" Tao Ren exclaimed looking at his friend then he glared at me with his golden tiger eyes. "I'll kill you for sure Hao!" he yelled.

"I think not..." I calmly said as he was charging at me with full power like an angry bull.

Flames were now aiming at him and he, too, caught the fierce attack and rolled across the floor.

Minutes have passed and it is only Yoh and I awake in this battle field. The others were now out cold on the ground.

"Such weaklings..." I said before I looked at my panting brother.

"Why... don't you finish me off now... Hao?" he faintly asked while struggling to stand up.

"Maybe I should..." I smirked.

Under my signal, Spirit of Fire launched an attack at Yoh. It was halfway there until it happened again.

My heart was hurting once more. Visions of my younger twin brother flowed in my head. 'What's wrong with me!' I thought; then I realized it. I weakly fell on my knees and grasped my face as I thought, 'Something to protect... What if...'.

He was in defense position even if that was no help at all.

"Yoh!" the ice shaman gained consiousness and was helplessly watching him.

Yoh shut his eyes tight with the sound of his name.

"I can't kill him... I can't..." I whispered. "NO! I CAN'T KILL YOH!".

A bright flash appeared and blinded everyone. It soon disappeared and the thick cloud of smoke surrounding Yoh and me cleared up.

Yoh slowly opened his eyes and saw me covering him up from damage. "Hao..." he softly said "You're... crying...".

I was also shocked from the crystallic water falling from my eyes.

I realized that I really had someone to cherish. He was the one I've been fighting for. He was Yoh.

I slowly closed my eyes and fell heavily on the ground.

"Hao..." his eyes were full of concern. "Hao... Hao!" he shook me endlessly looking for any sign of life.

"I love you, Yoh..."

Owari.
