Notes: For TeaRoses, who asked for animeverse Walter x Seras.
"Does it ever get any easier?"
He seems to understand what she's asking, in that intuitive way he has. The answer does not come immediately; he busies himself with the dish towels he's folding before looking up. It always surprises her that a man who can kill so deftly has such gentle eyes that his hands should be so adept at dealing death, and so gentle on her skin.
"Sometimes," he says, "but it should never be easy, Seras. When you don't regret killing, you just become a monster."
There's something that shadows his gaze, something that makes her want to go over and hug him, despite the fact that anyone might walk in at any moment. She surrenders to the impulse, wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her cheek to his chest. "You're not a monster," she whispers.
He sets the towel aside and holds her.
