The Quiet One

I'm not exactly sure where along the time line this is from or what is going to happen, the story just came to me, and seeing as I wasn't busy I decided to let my finger do the talking.

I disclaim

He knew in the end that it would be him.

Somewhere deep inside of him, he knew he was destined to be her champion.

Quartermaine hadn't understood her, not the real her. Ned understood the 'gate keeper' in Alexis. Admitted the fact the he did know the insanity of keeping a group of lunatics under control while never being appreciated was a plus in his favor, he need to have the superior moral ground keep there on and off again relationship from every really being anything more then a long fling between friends.

Spencer hadn't stood a chance, knowing the ins and outs of the Cassadine mind gave Luke a certain edge when it came to Natasha, but she had never really been Natasha, and in the end Alexis was the more dominant personality. And no matter how often Luke called on a lawyer, he would never truly understand her legal mind or how much of it had engulfed her life.

Jasper Jacks was so far from in the race, he didn't even truly understand way he showed up at the starting block. Pretty blondes were no near her taste, and with he need to play hero to damsels in distress it was a wonder she didn't kill him.

Corinthos' had come close; it still amazed him, how close the 'dimpled don', had gotten to her. It was probably the fact the Alexis for all her strength and intelligence really needed someone to understand that she somewhere deep down she was still that little girl that watched her mother be murdered and Sonny did understand that.

Of course in his usual misogynist way with women he destroyed what could have been by continuing his ill fated destructive relationship with Carly.

Cameron Lewis didn't stand a chance, he at most a rebound, and at least one of her lesser failures in the romance department.

Ric Lansing, like he big brother could have done it, had his own issues not out weighted his common sense. In his mind Lansing was the one who came the closest to getting Alexis.

Lansing had it all, he understood the legal mind; the insecurities of being the forgotten child always trying to become worthy of the parent and sibling that abandon them; trying to make up for the wrongs they done along the way.

Yeah, Lansing had come the closest to getting Alexis Davis, he had all the qualities that she needed, but he was still weak, as weak as any of the women in the town, cause even he feel for his brothers act, and as usual it cost him the girl.

Which left him, he knew that people normally wouldn't put him in race, hell she had even dismissed the idea of him early on, but he knew he was it in, and that he still had a fighting chance.

Because he was the quiet one, no one had paid him any mind, and that had been fine by him. It gave him the chance to observe the others and their half-hearted attempt to win her.

He watched Ned and Jax coddled her, Sonny and Ric antagonize her, and Luke tease her, each drawing out her different sides of personality , but never getting the full package, but he did.

With each failed relationship, he counted the days until he would understand her completely. That day came when her daughter was born, of course he still had to bid his time, but he at least had a complete picture of her.

He knew then that it was only a matter of time, and when the call finally came he'd be ready, and he was.

The phone call came at 3:48 am, he as it happens was dreaming about her, but the ringing of the phone was ruining their blissful union.

Reaching over he picked up the phone fighting hard to keep the anger and frustration out of his voice. "Hullo."

"It's me."

Hearing her voice immediately puts him at ease, even though he knows a call this late couldn't be good. "What's up?"

"I need you."

"If this is about Nikolas……."

"No, I need you, Mac."
