Absence of Sunlight
By Chibinaoka
Kohaku stood in a daze on Shuichiro's front porch. Although the sun had risen, it was hidden away behind dark clouds. Both Shuichiro & Kohaku had awoken to the sound of raindrops gently beating down on the roof. Kohaku looked over at the many tree branches that crouched down because of the rain water they had collected since dusk.
Lost in her own world, Kohaku didn't even hear Shuichiro come up behind her. She turned her head around slightly, just enough to let Shuichiro see the small smile that appeared on her face.
"Are you okay? You've seemed to be in such a daze since you woke up..."
Kohaku turned around to fully face the tall doctor.
"I'm fine, just a little tired. I've already explain how us angels feed off the sunlight, much like the plants. On rainy days such as this, its easy for us to get a little groggy."
Shuichiro simply knotted his head and didn't bother to inquire any further on the subject. Kohaku was sure he was going ask why didn't she use her powers to make the sun appear for just a brief moment but when he didn't, she simply turned around again. It was true that she could have done so but she had deemed it unecessary to change the weather just to accommodate her needs.
Both stood in silence for a while, simply watching the rain fall. Though they were both sheltered from the rain water by the roof over the porch, it still managed to make its way onto the tip of the deck. A small amount of moisture had begun to gather in Kohaku's hair and on her cloths. Kohaku watched with the corner of her eyes as Shuichiro disappeared only to reappear just a few minutes later with a suitcase, umbrella and towel in hand. Shuichiro trough the towel on top of Kohaku's head and then rested his hand on top of it in a friendly manner. Kohaku felt her cheeks fluster.
"Don't stay out on the porch too long or you'll get wet. And don't worry, the newspaper says the rain should clear up by this afternoon."
Kohaku nodded her head and smiled.
"I'm off to work."
And off Shuichiro went, Kohaku waving at him while wishing him a good day, her smile wider then ever.
The End
