A CANDLE'S FLAME

By: Me: P

"This is it." I told myself. Ooh…wow; am I crazy or…just in love? Wait a minute! Is my hair fixed? Oh God! There might be some dirt on my face! Quick! I must get a mirror!

"Evy…what's happening to you?" It was Tomoyo. My best friend's voice brought me back to myself.

I just ignored her. "Do I look alright?" I asked.

She smiled and reached for her bag. "Even if I tell you, you look alright, you'll still look in here". And she gave me her mirror.

"Thanks" I grinned.

"What's into you anyway?"

I just looked at her and gave her my sweetest smile. That was my answer.

"Oh," she looked around. "Speaking of whom…"

I glanced at her. Before I could turn my head I heard a voice that made me quiver.

"Tamao, can we talk?"

I gazed at a guy three inches taller than me. He was such a handsome man, with his blue, spiky hair and dark blue that seem to melt you like ice cream. My whole body started to tremble, my heart started to palpitate, as if it would like to jump out of my chest. I'd faint if this will take any longer.

"I think I should take a walk." Tomoyo said and went to a group of girls.

He watched her leave after taking a seat beside me. I think he noticed me staring at him, because he cleared his throat and looked at me.

"Uhm…" his voice quavered. "Tamao...I...uh..."

I was waiting for him to say something. "HoroHoro? Is there something wrong?"

"Tamao…I need to tell you something." He blushed. I never saw him like that before. Wait—was I right? He blushed? Gosh! I saw him blush! Does that mean…he feels the same way?

"What is it?" I held back. I was trying to control myself so that he wouldn't notice it.

He held my hands. "Promise me that Tomoyo won't get mad at me"

The way his hands feel mine makes me walk on air. Now I'm sure: he likes me too!

"I promise" I smiled.

He gave a sigh of relief. His hands grew even colder. Was he trembling? Or was it my hands?

"I knew I should get to the point," he started. "But I can't get myself to tell her what I feel". Drops of sweat trickled down his forehead.

"What do you mean?" I suddenly felt excited. My heart was overflowing with happiness. Just say those words and I'll forget everything!

He glanced at my best friend who was busy talking with other girls and looked back at me.

"Please…will you please tell your best friend that I like her…uh…no. Please tell Tomoyo I love her…please? Thanks friend!" he smiled.

That was the first day someone broke my heart. And he never even saw it.
