"That Kind Of Love"

By: WickedFrex

"Who would sell their soul for love?

Or waste one tear on compromise?

Should be easy enough

To know a heartache in disguise.

But the heart rules the mind

And the going gets rough

Pride takes the fall.

When you find that kind of love."

Why does a man do what he musn't? For her. To be loved by her. To have a place in her life where there isn't pain and suffering and darkness. It wasn't supposed to hurt so much. He never remembered it being so painful. But it's there, burning. Burning so hot and bright inside his chest. And no matter how much he tries, he can't make it stop.

He knows the truth. He's just another body. Another shadow in the darkness. Among the file cabinets and forgotten rubish, this is where he belongs. He knows that now and he accepts it. Because he'll never fit into her life the way he wants.

"I can't help feeling like a fool

Since I lost that place inside.

Where my heart knew its way

And my soul was ever wise.

Once innocence was lost

There was not faith enough

Still my heart held on

When it found that kind of love."

What is she doing? Has he done something to make her trust him? He doesn't think so. But, if not, then why is she looking at him that way? Touching him in the places he never thought she would touch him again. Telling him the things he wants to hear, but can't bring himself to admit. Just four words. Just that simple phrase and his whole world exploads.

For a single moment, the truth gives him something to hang on to.

"Though beauty is rare enough

Still we trust

Somehow we'll find it there.

With no guarantee

It seems to me

At least it should be fair."

He doesn't want to breathe. He doesn't need to, but for some reason he fears that action the most. He doesn't want to move at all, because she is there, with him. Beside him. Curled into him as if she truly needs him.

He knows she never forgave him. Not really. For everything he did to her, she could never forgive him. It would be too much for both of them to bear. He doesn't know if she trusts him, but he's sure she doesn't. He thinks this is just a beautiful lie. But they both worked too hard. They've both faught too much to be telling lies.

So...it must be the truth.

"But if it's only tears and pain

Isn't it still worth the cost?

Like some sweet saving grace

Or a river we must cross.

If we don't understand

What this life is made of

We learn the truth

When we find that kind of love.

Cause when innocence is lost

There is not faith enough.

We learn the truth

When we find that kind of love."

It's pain beyond all belief. It's hot and burning and it's stabbing. It's everything and nothing all at once. But he doesn't care about that. He cares about the woman standing beside him. The woman shaking with fear. He can't figure that out. Why is she still there?

She wraps her fingers around his and for a moment, he can feel the soul. For a brief moment, it's singing inside his chest.

"I love you." she whispers.

He wants so bad to believe it. He wants to fool his mind into thinking it's the truth. But he hasn't worked so hard these last few months to be fooled by lies. He knows the truth.

"No. You don't. But thanks for sayin' it." he replies, smiling through the pain.

The truth. That's what he's worked so hard for.

And in that burning instant, he finds it...

...in his soul.
