My Skies are Gray

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine.

When you're not happy

My skies are gray.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away

Her mother used to sing it to her all the time when she was young, before Hanabi was born. Her mother gave her the name Hinata because she felt that Hinata's first smile was bright like the sun.

Her mother passed on, leaving her with that song.

Later on she found herself singing the same song for someone else, secretly. It was for him. The person she admired.

Naruto

But it was sung silently as she watched him from afar.

She remembered when she first saw him break down. It was so unexpected. It was the most beautiful day of the year, but that didn't matter. If he was in pain, the day could never be beautiful. The sun could never shine as bright. So even though there were no clouds in sight, it was raining for her. It was raining their tears. His pain caused her to cry with him, even if she wasn't with him and only watching from a far.

She was shattered.

Here he was again with his swing and his eyes dull from lack of acknowledgement. But this time she wouldn't just watch from the shadows.

Gathering up all of the courage she could muster, she began to walk towards him. It was now or never, even if the latter choice seemed to be more tempting.

For him, she would do anything. She would do the impossible. She would die for him. She would also live for him if he wanted her to. She would willingly give him all of the affection she possessed if he wanted it or keep it locked away to protect his happiness. That was what was most important.

His happiness.

She could stand on the sidelines too. She had done that all her life. Her mother had taught her about sacrificing for the ones you care for at a very young age. Hinata could no longer pay back her mother for that lesson physically, but she would by sacrificing herself for him.

She approached quietly, but before she could reach him, his team appeared and her courage faded away.

His normal happy façade returned as he and Sasuke argued and Sakura pounded him into the ground while their sensei read his book.

She returned to her hiding spot, casting one more glance back at the one she admired.

"When you're sad… it makes me sad. So please smile for real, Naruto-kun."

Her words carried into the wind as she left.

Erm... yeah... Happy (way way) belated birthday, Cloud-san :sweatdrop: Sorry it's so late... and so short... T-T
