The perpetually dark sky cried tears that evening. It rarely rained in Traverse Town. In the long time that Aerith had lived there, it had only happened once before. She stood near the lone window of the Accessories Shop, watching the droplets of water fall against the glass. Watching rain seemed to always bring back memories of her old home. Perhaps, it was because she would be cooped up in one of the buildings and all of her movements and those of her friends would cease. She gently rubbed her hand against her arm while keeping her sights on the window.
"Aerith." A low voice spoke from behind her.
She turned toward the source. It was a voice she could always recognize. "Hello, Leon." A smile curved her lips following the greeting.
Slowly, he walked over to her. Soon he was next to her but avoided being too close. "The rain seems to frighten them." The girl knew he was referring to the Heartless.
"I suppose they're not big fans of being wet. It's the same with some other animals…"
"Don't compare those I things /I to other creatures!" Snapped the man.
The outburst startled her a bit, which caused her sight to shift toward him. Leon stared down at the floor, anguish seemingly written across his face. It seemed to Aerith that being in this strange world was taking its toll on him. She hated seeing anyone feel upset, no matter what the circumstance was.
An awkward silence followed as she tried to figure out how to cheer him up. His eyes had moved toward the window now. Aerith noticed this and asked, "Remember when it used to rain back at home?"
A simple nod was his response.
"It used to be one of my favorite times," She took a short pause and began to beam. "Because usually a beautiful rainbow would form afterwards."
"Mhm…" He murmured absently at her statement.
"And sometimes I would walk about in the flower fields near my home during the lighter showers. Why go there when it rained? Well, I am rather fond of feeling the water on my skin…seeing the droplets on the flowers…and twirling my umbrella as I strolled about…" Her words trailed off when sorrow began to fill her heart. Well, she missed being able to go to those fields.
Leon looked over at her, noticing the sadness that her memories brought upon her. He had never been much of a sentimental person, yet he knew Aerith was the type to cherish the little moments life gave her.
After taking a few steps forward, he then put his hand on her shoulder. Though, his facial expression was stale as usual, he said something rather sweet. "...There's other fields of flowers out there. Maybe, someday, I'll take you to one."
His actions had stunned her quite a bit. The gunblade wielder was never the type to reach out and say such assuring words. Though, she was still very grateful that he cared. "I was trying to find a way to cheer you up but it seems you're the one that helped me."
He did not reply to that. Instead, his visage was now directed toward the window. Aerith stood at his side.
For the rest of the evening they silently watched the rain fall.
End.
