Chapter Title: Greeting Under the Cherry Blossoms

Chapter Number: 1

Spring… How ironic. Spring when I'm alone for the first time with him, spring when my heart thuds so loudly in my chest.

I don't plan this. I meet him by chance, strolling through the fields of cherry blossoms like I always do, at any time of the year, even if the branches are bare.

He is humming a sweet little tune to himself, oblivious to the world, as I am. Which might be why we smacked into each other.

Now, I have never been one to get embarrassed, not by anything. And I'm usually quite pale. But today, my face turns beetroot red, and I am as humiliated as I will ever be.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Yuki says in his irresistibly polite way. "Here…" He offers a hand to me. I hesitate, and then take it.

Now, if I start talking about how I felt when I touched his hand, I'll turn into Makoto.

He's unusually strong, but I guess he would be. He does have to defend himself against Kyo, at any rate. And now I am standing here in front of him, the moment I have found myself dreaming of, with nothing to say.

Well, of course I have something to say. You don't fall in love with somebody without rehearsing your first moment alone with them over and over in a fantasy. It all seems so stupid now, though. Especially the bit about the weather. But it's the only thing I have, and the best I can do for now.

"Nice weather today…"

Okay, take that back. I'd be a lot better off staying quiet.

Yuki smiled at me, but it wasn't a genuine smile. The genuine smile I had never seen, though I knew it was in there, somewhere, hidden. "Yes," he agreed softly. "Perfect."

Now I was stuck talking about weather. "I love the spring." Winter was my favorite season.

Yuki nodded softly. But he didn't smile. Was something wrong? His waves were hard to read.

"Well… I guess I'll be going now." I ruined it. I completely ruined it.

"Yes…" He looked up at me, and as he started to walk away, I thought I saw a hint of a smile.
