I see you.
I don't think you can see me, but I see you. I see you all the time whether with my waking eyes or not. You look terribly nonchalant and I can't stand it. And at the same time, you're an ivory ideal. I can't help but stare.
I dreamt about you last night, not for the first time. The first time was frightening; I awoke in horror and disgust. I guess I've accepted it, though. I like watching you. I like contemplating how perfect you look, even if sometimes I get the blasphemous thought that I'd like to spoil that perfection.
You're staring at your knife and I wonder why.
Suddenly I feel a jab in my arm and reluctantly tear my gaze away from you. Harry's been talking to me, it seems. I make an excuse for not hearing him, not a very plausible one, but he accepts it.
I take one last guilty glance up at you before forcing myself to join in the conversation.
I see you.
You don't think I can see you, but I can. You steal glances across the Hall, stare for as long as you think is safe.
You think I don't notice, but I do. If I watched you stare, you'd stop.So Iturn my knife just so, and your face is reflected in it. You're gazing in my direction as if something positively riveting lies before your eyes. And it does: me. Potter says something to you. You don't hear him; you just keep watching. He repeats whatever he's saying. Again, you don't react. Am I really that entrancing?
Well, of course I am.
Potter jabs you in the arm and you snap out of it, like you're waking from a dream. I smile to myself. I can't say I blame you for staring at me. It's funny, almost. I'm everything you're not; everything you can't be. I have everything you'll never have. Why shouldn't you stare?
Truth be told, I kind of enjoy it.
