Chapter 1: A Decision to Be Made
Nate was an ordinary 14-year old boy. He loved to play baseball, hang with his friends, go swimming, but most of all, to watch Pokemon battles. No sport around could keep his attention more than an Electabuzz and a Nidoqueen duking it out. However, his parents had never wanted him to become a trainer due to the dangers. But on one fateful night, things changed…
"But I want to be a trainer" whined Nate. He had been slightly spoiled as a child, and was used to getting his way. "It's too dangerous" replied his mother. "But...you let George become trainer, why can't I?" muttered Nate, hoping that using his brother as a comparison might change there minds. "Well, it was different…George wanted to be a trainer his whole life, and he's a lot more…determined…then you." With that, Nate stood up. He was more determined than ever now. "Well then, if you want to see determination, then I will get my trainer's license on my own!" He huffed out of the room, as red as a tomato. He was going to become a Pokemon trainer now, no matter what his parents said.
The next morning when Nate woke up, he walked down to Professor Chan's office. The professor replied "Well…I can't just give this to you Nate. I mean, every time you start something, you always quit, and a Pokemon isn't a toy…" Nate was beginning to feel down. "Well," he replied, "This time it's different. Let me prove to you that I can do it!" The professor shrugged, but then his face lit up. "I know…I'll let you battle my son, Ralph. It will be a one-on-one battle using only one of the three starter Pokemon you'd be able to choose." Nate nodded his head in agreement. The professor brought out three Poke Balls to him. "So…what'll it be?" asked the professor, "You can have either Cyndaquil, Chikorita, or Totodile."
As Nate thought carefully about his first partner, he realized that he didn't really have a preference…he only wanted to own a Pokemon, so it didn't matter which one. He replied, "Give me any one you want." The professor stepped back a minute to ponder this, then mixed up the three Poke Balls. Nate picked the one in the middle as the professor laid them out for him, and released the ball. When the light cleared away, Nate saw what his first Pokemon was…
