Well, the reviewers have spoken. 3 votes for artifact and zombie, 2 for elves. Since we've already seen my black deck, I'm gonna go with artifacts.
BTW, I'm gonna use Khellendros' idea of having a double duel against Yami and Kaiba. So Khellendros, welcome to my fic, and could you please e-mail me your deck list.
Another thing, artifacts that aren't creatures are subject to the 5-on-the-field rule.

Arrathir drew his hand (Leaden Myr, Krark-Clan Grunt, Awe Strike, Frogmite, Lightning Greaves, Myr Retriever, Disciple of the Vault).
Not too good. My strongest cards are only 1000/1000. Well, Awe Strike will be useful if he tries to pull something big. Disciple of the Vault I'll need when I get more artifacts, and Myr Retriever will be good if he kills off something I really need.
"Since I was challenged, I'll go first. I summon Frogmite (1000/1000)," a silver frog materialized onto the playing field "My Frogmite can be played at any time as long as I have an artifact card in play, and I'll play one card face-down (Awe Strike). Next, I play Lightning Greaves on my Frogmite. He cannot be the target of spells or abilities. My Frogmite attacks your life points directly! Your move."

I can't kid around in this duel! I have to take him down as fast as possible before he can get his Egyptian God card out. (A/N This is pre-Battle City so Kaiba still has Obelisk the Tormentor, and since it's such a powerful card (4000/4000), Kaiba needs to sack three monsters to summon it.)
"Well," said Kaiba "You got an early head start, but soon you'll be wishing you'd never attacked me! I summon my X Head Cannon (1800/1500)!" A large robot appeared on the field. "Next I'll lay one card face down. Now my X Head Cannon, attack!"

I probably should have waited until I had more creatures out before attacking. I could of used Awe Strike, but I want to save that for when he attacks me with something really big.
"What a pitiful mistake you made; attacking me with no monster to defend yourself!" said Kaiba "Even that mutt Wheeler can duel better than you!"
"Shut up!" growled Arrathir, drawing his card (Leonin Elder) "I'll summon Krark-Clan Grunt (1000/1000)." A red goblin jumped out of the card and snarled menacingly. "I can sacrifice an artifact to give my Grunt +1000/+0 and first strike until end of turn! Then I'll end my turn."
"I summon Black Forest Witch (1100/1200)!" A woman clothed in black robes appeared, surrounded by a flock of crows. "When she is put into my graveyard, I can move one monster with a defence of 1500 or less from my deck to my hand. Next I'll play Pot of Greed allowing me to draw two cards! Your turn."
Why didn't he attack me? Both his creatures are more powerful! He's planning something…
"I draw (Skeleton Shard), and I play Leonin Elder (500/500). Whenever an artifact card comes into play, I gain 500 life points! Now I'll play Skeleton Shard!" a giant dagger made of bones appeared on the field "My Skeleton Shard allows me to return a creature artifact card from my graveyard if I tap it and another artifact card. Also because of my Leonin Elder, I gain 500 life points. I end my turn."

"Very well," said Kaiba "I summon my Y Dragon Head (1500/1600). I can join this card with my X Head Cannon into the XY Dragon Cannon (2200/1900), which I think I'll do right now!" A brilliant flash enveloped the two monsters. When the light cleared, the Y Dragon Head was resting on top of the X Head Cannon. "XY Dragon Cannon, attack!"
"Too bad, Kaiba," said Arrathir "I sacrifice my Frogmite into my Grunt, making it a 2000/1000. Since it has first strike, it deals combat damage first! This means your XY Dragon Cannon is destroyed!"
"Not so fast! Reveal face down card!" said Kaiba "Ring of Destruction!" A ring with bright red balls attached to it appeared from the card and secured itself around Krark-Clan Grunt's neck. "This card destroys your monster and deals damage equal to it power to you and me, except I play Ring of Protection, meaning only you receive the damage!" A green ring appeared in front of Kaiba and four petals deployed from its centre.
The Ring of Destruction exploded, obliterating Arrathir's Krark-Clan Grunt and dealing 2000 damage to his life points.

"You're an amateur, Arrathir," said Kaiba "This duel will be over soon!"
"Don't count on it," grumbled Arrathir "My turn. I draw (Fabricate), and summon Myr Retriever (500/500), giving me another 500 life points."

"Then, I activate my magic card, Fabricate, which allows me to search my library for an artifact card and put it into my hand," Arrathir sifted through his deck until he found the card he wanted, Darksteel Forge. He put it into his hand as his Duel Disk shuffled his deck "Then I'll play the card I took from my deck, Darksteel Forge! All my artifacts become indestructible! This means lethal damage and destruction effects do not work on them! Now I tap my Skeleton Shard and my Darksteel Forge to bring back my Frogmite to my hand. Since I control an artifact, I can play Frogmite, even though I already summoned a creature this turn, giving me 500 more life points! Your move."

"Your life-giving card won't help you when you see the monster I'm about to summon," said Kaiba "Meet my Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500)!" A white dragon burst from the card and flew over the battlefield, roaring. "Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack!"
The dragon rushed forward, its mouth wide open as it bore down on Arrathir's creatures.
"I activate my trap card," said Arrathir "Awe Strike! I prevent all damage done by your Blue-Eyes and I gain life equal to the damage prevented!"
Arrathir looked down at his life point meter, expecting it to go up, but to his dismay, his life points fell down to 4700!

"Hey! What happened?"
Kaiba snickered, "I activated my magic card, Magic Jammer. If I remove one card from my hand, it allows my to cancel the effect of a magic card that is activated. So your card did nothing while my Blue-Eyes attacked your life points directly! Give up! This duel is over! On my next turn, I'll be able to summon a monster so powerful that you won't be able to stop my attack!"
Shit, shit, shit! I'm really in trouble now! There's only one card that can save me now! Come on artifacts! Don't let me down!
Trembling, he drew his next card, Inspiration.
"I play Inspiration, allowing me to draw two cards (Megatog, Vex). Then I'll summon my Megatog (1500/2000)! He may look weak, but if I sacrifice an artifact, I can give him +1500/+1500 until end of turn! I'll also play one card face down (Vex). Now I'll attack you with Megatog!"
"I block with XY Dragon Cannon," said Kaiba.
"Hold it, I sacrifice my Frogmite into my Megatog, making him a 3000/4500 until end of turn! Your Dragon Cannon is destroyed! Then, I'll tap my Skeleton Shard and my Darksteel Forge to return my Frogmite to my hand and I'll play him, gaining 500 life points."

"I have waited long enough!" roared Kaiba "Prepare to meet your doom! I play Change of Heart, allowing me to take control of your Megatog for the rest of my turn! Now I can sacrifice all my creatures to summon my Egyptian God card, Obelisk the Tormentor (4000/4000)!"
"Stop right there, Kaiba! I activate my facedown card, Vex. It counters your summon, but allows you to draw one card. Obelisk is in your graveyard!"
Kaiba looked shocked, but quickly regained his composure.
"You merely stalled me. I will bring Obelisk to the field!"
"Yeah, are you done?"
"Of course not! Blue-Eyes attack!"
"I block with my Myr Retriever," said Arrathir "Because of Darksteel forge, my creature is not destroyed. Now since it's my turn, Megatog returns to my control! I draw, (Dross Scorpion), I play Dross Scorpion (1500/500) giving me 500 life points. Whenever Dross Scorpion or another artifact is put into a graveyard, I can untap target artifact. Now I sacrifice my Frogmite into my Megatog, tap Skeleton Shard and Darksteel Forge to return Frogmite to my hand, play it, gaining 500 life points, sacrifice it again into Megatog, he's now a 4500/5000. Then I use Dross Scorpion's ability to untap my Skeleton Shard. I tap Skeleton shard again and Dross Scorpion to return Frogmite back to my hand, play him again, giving me yet another 500 life points. Finally, I'll sacrifice Frogmite into Megatog one last time, making him a 6000/6500! I attack with him!"
"I'll block with my Black Forest Witch, using her effect to bring Lord of the Dragons into my hand."

"I draw," said Kaiba "Now I play Monster Reborn! It allows me to return a monster from any graveyard to the field under my control! I return Obelisk to the field! I'll also play one card face down. Now, Obelisk, show him the power of a God card!"

Arrathir drew his next card (Second Sunrise) "I sacrifice my Frogmite into Megatog, return it to my hand with Skeleton shard, and so on, until all my artifacts are tapped, he's a 6000/6500 and I gain 1500 life in the process. I also play one card facedown (Second Sunrise)."

Kaiba was stunned as all of Arrathir's creatures returned from his graveyard into play.
"Come on, did you really think I'd fall for your trick? You left yourself open when you attacked me. I knew you had some big card on the field. Now, watch as I sacrifice all my artifacts (Frogmite, Skeleton Shard, Dross Scorpion, Darksteel Forge, and Myr Retriever) into Megatog. I used Myr Retriever's ability to return Frogmite to my hand, play him since I didn't summon anything this turn, gaining 500 life points, and sacrifice him into Megatog once again. My Megatog is now a 12,000/12,500! Now I attack you! No matter what monster you block with, I win."
