A/N: I decided to see if I could write a fanfiction in which the characters use/make references to old lines. God, you have to love quote sites. Anyhow, enjoy. Set after the second to last episode ever, BEFORE the assignments to opposite sides of the world. I'm a bit in denial about that until I see how they deal with that. Review, please!
Over Again
"Hey, Mac. You got a minute?" Harm stuck his head around the door.
"Yeah, Harm?"
He sat down across from her desk. "You encouraged Bud to check that again, didn't you?"
"Yes."
"I don't understand." Mac thought he looked sexy as hell sitting there looking slightly confused.
"Well, in what language does a man understand why a woman does anything?"
Harm laughed. "Haven't I said that before?"
"Yeah, I guess so." Mac smiled. "Look, I know Vuckovic. I've seen the lengths he'll go to to win. I just didn't want him to have overlooked anything in his bid to prove his client's innocence."
Harm frowned at her. "But didn't you trust me to do it right?"
She sighed. "Of course I trusted you. I just knew that you'd get caught up in Vuckovic's excitement. His exuberance can be... infectious."
He grinned wryly. "Yeah, I guess it can be. Nice job, catching that."
Her smile was wide and genuine. "Thanks, Harm."
He leaned back in the chair. "So, I hear Vuckovic was a bit flirty with you in San Diego."
"Yup. But believe me, I set him straight."
"How bad was it?" He raised a brow.
"Well, let's just say I stopped short of castrating the village pervert. There was that woman you worked with, Harm. She seemed to like Vuckovic. And hey, did you know Jen now calls him Vic?"
Harm's eyebrow went higher. "Really?"
"Yeah, wouldn't have thought about that. Well, if he hurts her in any way, I'll give him a Marine Corps hickey." She laughed at the memory. "And we both know how painful that is."
Harm laughed and got up to leave.
"Hey, Harm?"
"Yeah?" He paused, one hand on the door.
"Vuckovic said something earlier that got under my skin." Mac was looking thoughtful, and Harm reentered the room and closed the door.
"What?"
"He said that after working with you, he knew what I saw in him."
Harm's voice took on a jealous tone. "What do you see in him?"
Mac smiled gently. "That's what I asked. And he knew the answer, too." She came around her desk to stand directly in front of him. "He said I saw you in him." Harm stared down at her, his face unreadable. "Harm, do you think there's any chance of this working between us?"
"Wow, that was a bit unexpected." Harm blinked a few times, then smiled. "Yes, I do."
Mac grinned, but there was a touch of vulnerability behind it. "Then you won't mind if I do this?" She pulled gently down on his uniform, giving him plenty of time to pull away as she drew his head down towards hers. Instead of backing off, however, Harm actually leaned down faster, lips meeting hers in a kiss that was way to brief but was interrupted by a knock on the door. Mac put her chin on Harm's shoulder, her arms around his waist, and called out "Who is it?"
"It's Coates, ma'am."
The pair seperated reluctantly, and Mac said "Enter."
Jen opened the door, and smiled a little at Harm's rumpled hair (Mac's handiwork) before delivering her message. "Ma'am, Sir, the General asks that you keep the thing he isn't seeing out of the office." With that, she turned on her heel and left.
Harm and Mac looked at eachother in shock, then burst out laughing. Harm managed to catch his breath first. "Race you home?"
It was Mac's turn to raise an eyebrow. "Your place or mine?"
A/N: Yeah, out of character, etc. IT WAS CUTE, OK? Kudos to people who find the lines I made references to...
