Chapter 1:
Sunlight poured into Kaoru's room as she began to wake up. She groaned as she sat up.
'God, my body hurts like crazy!'
Suddenly, she broke out in a fit of coughs. Kaoru fell backwards as she tried to stand up but failed. Then there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" she called out.
Kenshin walked in wearing his usual pink gi and Rurouni smile.
"Good morning Kaoru-dono" he greeted with his normal cheerfulness. "Breakfast is on the table, okay? After you get ready we can eat."
"Actually Kenshin, I'm not feeling all that great today so –"
Kenshin didn't hear her and continued talking.
"After we eat, I plan on going fishing at the pond and Yahiko will be out most of the day to help Tae-san at the Akabeko. Hurry up and get dressed."
"Kenshin…"
"We'll be waiting."
With that he left the room. It took Kaoru a while to finally get up off the futon and get dressed. Then she finally made her way to the kitchen.
"What took you so long, ya ugly hag?" Yahiko called out when he saw her at the doorway.
"Yeah Jou-chan, Kenshin here made us wait for you" Sano added.
"Sorry" Kaoru mumbled as she took her seat at the table.
The three guys were a little surprised that she didn't hit Yahiko for his comment like she would have usually. But they let the matter drop. Maybe she hadn't woken up completely yet.
Kaoru had just taken a few bites of her food, when her body suddenly began to feel burning pain all over. It hurt so much that tears actually started to form at the corners of her eyes.
"Erm…Guys, I don't feel all that hungry right now. So, I'll eat later. I'll be in my room if any of you need me."
Kaoru shakily go up and walked out the door. She was panting a lot. The pain was so great. She was half walking, half hunched over and leaning again the wall for support. Kaoru began to feel really dizzy and her eyes started to see two of everything. Her vision darkened and before she knew it, her eyes rolled back and she blacked out. She hit the floor. Hard.
Meanwhile, back at the table, the tree guys were a little worried about Kaoru.
"Jou-chan didn't look so great back there" commented Sano.
"Yeah. She isn't herself today. Ugly didn't even throw anything at me when I called her a hag" Yahiko reminded.
"Should I go check on her?" asked Kenshin.
"Yeah, I think you better go and see if she's alright" agreed Sano.
Kenshin left the kitchen and walked in the direction of Kaoru's room. He stopped dead when he saw her figure on the hallway floor. He dashed towards her.
"Kaoru-dono!"
