"Quit your whining," Amara sighed. "You sound like a five year old."
"Well it hurts," Kai snapped harshly. Amara was trying to clean the slashes on his back and it was taking a lot more effort than she thought it would. Kai would move every time she tried to place the warm cloth over one of the cuts. Finally she had him lying on his stomach and she straddled his waist with her legs to prevent him from struggling. Jules and Tala watched the couple in amusement.
"It can't hurt as much as getting them," Jules mumbled quietly but Tala still heard her.
"Probably not since if Kai showed any sign of weakness he would earn another ten lashings," Tala replied bitterly. "That bastard would whip him to death if he could."
"Why does he keep Kai around if he hates him so much?"
"Isn't it obvious," Kai said breaking into the conversation but speaking through clenched teeth. Amara was finally getting somewhere with cleaning his wounds. "If he doesn't have me, he doesn't get all the money that was left to me."
"So he'll just kill you when you inherit it?" Jules asked, feeling a little frightened at the idea.
"That wouldn't be obvious at all," Tala remarked.
"Hn…my grandfather has enough connections to make it look like he had nothing to do with my death," Kai answered, grimacing silently as Amara placed the cloth on a different cut.
"He's not going to kill you," Amara stated matter of factly, placing a kiss on Kai's phoenix tattoo.
"Good luck trying to stop him," Kai told her, shivering under the gentle pressure of her lips on his shoulders.
"Oh I will try," Amara replied haughtily. "You're mine and he'll have to get through me."
"My they become possessive fast don't they?" Tala smirked. Jules slapped him gently in the arm. "Well you girls do."
"That's quite the assumption Tala Valkov."
"Well you know what it means when you make an assumption…you make an ass out of you and umption," Tala snickered to himself.
"You are an ass," Jules rolled her eyes and then rested them on the couple on the couch who were now kissing. "Aw come on you guys there are other people in the room ya know."
"I think that's our cue to leave," Tala stood up and offered Jules his hand. Jules took his hand and he pulled her up off the couch they had been sharing.
"They could have just asked," Jules grumbled as she followed Tala out of the room. "That's just rude."
"Well they were trying to be discreet I guess," Tala shrugged smiling at her. They stopped in the hallway just outside the room that they had just vacated.
"It's disgusting that's what it is." Jules crossed her arms and leaned against the wall facing the tall red head. "It's my house for Pete's sake."
Tala smirked at her. "Somebody sounds a little jealous." Jules' eyes shot up.
"I'm not jealous," she snapped back at him. "You don't even know me, you have no right to make that kind of accusation."
"Well maybe we should get to know each other," Tala's smirk softened to a lopsided grin. He put his hand on the wall by her head and leaned in closer to her.
"So you can make stupid accusations?" Jules tried to sound pissed off but her little burst of anger was fading fast as Tala's body got closer to hers. "I don't think it would be worth my time."
"I was thinking more along the lines of this." Tala lowered his head and captured her lips with his. Jules couldn't believe that her dream guy was suddenly kissing her in the hallway of her house. His hand cupped the back of her neck deepening the kiss, while with his other hand he pulled her body closer to his.
Tala couldn't believe how sweet and warm her lips were. He wasn't planning on carrying on the kiss for so long but he couldn't get enough of the small brunette.
Amara pulled away from Kai and smiled. "I thought they'd never leave."
"That doesn't mean you have to stop," Kai smirked, pulling her back to him by the collar of her black zip up hoody.
"I'm not done cleaning those cuts of yours," Amara said, stopping him before he could reclaim her lips. "Now lie back down."
"Then what did you kiss me for?" Kai grumbled obeying her and lying back down on his stomach. .
"I wanted to get Jules and Tala out of the room," Amara shrugged and placed the hot cloth on his back.
"Why did you want them out if you didn't want to make out?" Kai turned on his side so he could look at the girl who was sitting on him. She gave him a coy smirk. "You're up to something, I can see it in your eyes."
"Up to? What ever do you mean," Amara smiled avoiding his eye. Kai moved so she was sitting on his lap.
"You're plotting something," Kai said, moving in to tickle her.
"Kai don't!" Amara shrieked trying to pull away before he could get her but it was too late. Amara was very ticklish along the sides of her stomach and Kai knew she wouldn't be able to fight him. "Kai stop!"
"Tell me what you're up to and I'll stop," Kai said continuing to tickle her. Amara squirmed and flailed in his grip. "You are so stubborn." He remarked, laughing, after a while. "You're the one suffering."
"It's not fair…" Amara breathed trying to keep from screaming. " You know…my weakness." It was hard to talk with him tickling her.
"My only weakness is you," Kai said softly. He stopped tickling her but he still held her. Amara sat up and stared at him.
"Damn it Hiwatari, when did you get romantic?" Amara groaned, her breathing ragged. Before Kai could reply she kissed him hard on the mouth. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer.
"So are you gonna tell me what you're up to?" Kai spoke against her lips, nibbling on her bottom lip.
"Way to ruin the moment," Amara grumbled. She sat up and glared into his silver eyes.
"You ruined it first," Kai replied smugly. "Are you trying to set Tala and Jules up?" He started into her eyes searching them for he answer. Amara knew that they would give her away as always. Kai could read her eyes. "You are! Why are you doing that?"
"Isn't it obvious?"
"You're jealous and want me all to yourself?" Kai joked but Amara could hear the seriousness under the words.
Amara swatted him in the arm. "They like each other…well at least Jules really likes Tala. I have no idea if he likes her though."
"Don't look at me," Kai put his hands up in defense. "Tala doesn't tell me everything."
"So you don't know if he likes anyone?"
"I have no idea."
"Tala?" Jules moaned breaking away from his kiss. Her head was swimming. It had taken everything in her to pull away from him. It was a dream come true but she wasn't exactly sure how to take it. Why had he suddenly kissed her?
"We should probably go back," Tala said huskily dropping his hands from her waist and turning away from her. He couldn't stand the confusing in her emerald eyes.
"Are you two done making out yet?" Tala said entering the room with Jules trailing behind him.
"We were done before we even started," Kai replied grumpily.
Tala eyes his friend curiously. "What's his problem?"
"He's just pouting because I still haven't finished cleaning his cuts." Amara motioned for Kai to lie back down. He shot her an evil look but complied without a word. The room fell into an awkward silence.
"I forgot to tell you guys," Kai hissed through clenched teeth. "I'm allowed to go where ever I want for two weeks as a reward for agreeing to the marriage."
"So marrying me is just a duty to you huh?" Jules joked but there was a little bit of pain behind the words.
"Actually it is, but Lady Catherine wants me to get away from the media here," Kai answered. Jules nodded. Amara could tell there was something wrong with her friend and she made a metal note to harass her about it later.
"So where are you going?" Tala asked.
"I don't know, somewhere far from here."
"I think I know just the place," Amara smiled. "How soon do you want to leave?"
"As soon as we can."
