Chapter 11: Beach Bums

"Welcome to our little home away from home," Amara said to the group as she opened the door to the large beach house. The door opened to a large area where shoes and coats were kept. There was a door at the other end that led to the large spacious kitchen, which was furnished in dark wood. To the right were bedrooms and the bathroom, while to the left it opened up into a vaulted ceiling and a whole wall of windows. The family room and the pool table took up the space in front of the windows. There was also a large deck that over looked the lake and the path leading down to it. Around the far corner of the living room were the stairs up to the loft and the master bedroom. There was a door right beside the door that led into the house, which led downstairs where there were more bedrooms.
"Alright, guys downstairs. Girls on the main floor and I get the master suite," Amara smiled taking off in a run up to her suite.
The master suite had the largest bathroom in the house; with a Jacuzzi tub and heated floors, which were actually for if, you stayed in the winter. She took a leap and landed on the comfy king size bed in the middle of the room. From her spot upstairs she could hear her friends shrieking and arguing over who got which room.
"Girls would you please help us with the food and your luggage," Amara heard Rei scold them from below.
"Where's Ams?" Cat asked placing a box of food on one of the counters.
"Yeah why isn't she helping?" Kiki grumbled.
"She ran upstairs right after she opened the door," Tyson answered, already digging in to one of the bags of chips.
"That lazy little brat," Kiki huffed, her hands on her hips. "Well I guess we'll just have to go up there and drag her down here." Kiki grabbed a hand full of chips from the bag her boyfriends was holding then spun on her heel in the direction of the stairs. Cat, Jules, and Mico were close behind.
"Aw she's a sleep you guys," Cat pointed out. The four of them stopped in the doorway and looked at their friend crashed out on top of the white duvet.
"She's probably faking to get out of work," Kiki smirked. "Smart girl. Wish I had thought of it first."
"She's probably not faking Keeks," Mico said, standing up for her sleeping friend.
"Mico's right," Jules added. "We did get in late last night." Kiki nodded in agreement and closed the doors that led into the room. "Besides there isn't much to do right now anyway. Let's hit the lake." The three other girls nodded to Jules suggestion and they all walked down the stairs to change into their swimsuits.
It was dark outside when Amara finally woke up. She felt a little disoriented and it took her a minute to remember where she was. It had been a few years since she had bothered coming to the lake house. So the room was exactly how she remembered it. The walls were white but they had old framed movie posters covering up most of the whiteness. The carpet was dark blue and felt amazing on your bare feet. There was a walk in closet on the right side of the room and a door leading out to her own private balcony on the left. The other door led to the massive bathroom.
Amara's gaze stopped on the balcony. That wall was made of all windows and through it she could see someone sitting on one of the chairs. Curious to see which one of her friends had ventured out there, Amara got off the bed to see whom it was. Amara opened the glass door, which automatically slammed shut behind her. She tried to open it again but it had locked itself.
"How nice of you to finally join us my dear." Amara knew that cold voice.
"Voltaire," Amara hissed under her breath. "What do you want?"
"You had two days to break things off with my grandson and instead you kidnap
him and take him back to the one place I don't want him." Voltaire got up from the chair and stood to face her.
"I did not kidnap him," Amara snapped. "He was very willing to get away from you." Her anger started to die as Voltaire took a step closer to her.
"You did not keep your end of the bargain but I am a man of my word." His hand swung out and captured Amara's neck in its strong grip. "Bye bye my dear." With one swing he lifted Amara off her feet and threw her like a rag doll over the balcony.
Amara couldn't help but scream. She was falling from a third story balcony there was really no way she could survive it. Suddenly she felt strong arms around her. Shaking her but she was still falling.
"Amara! Amara!" Kai. He was calling her name.
"Help me!" She screamed.
"Amara, baby wake up," his soft voice calmed her and her eyes flung open to see his concerned face. Amara's attention whipped to the balcony. It was still light outside and there was no one sitting on the deck chairs. She was still on the large bed and Kai was sitting on the edge watching her.
"Kai." Amara squeaked before hugging him and burying her face in his neck. Kai could feel her tears soaking the collar of his red t-shirt. He didn't say anything. He just held her and rubbed her back.
"Voltaire!" Amara pulled back from Kai, her sapphire eyes wide with fear. "He's here and he really wants to kill me."
"He's not here," Kai gently cupped her face. "It was a dream." She relaxed a little but the fear in her eyes was still very clear.
"Well it was damn realistic," Amara groaned falling back onto the soft pillows.
'I don't think you should sleep up here all by yourself," Kai said protectively.
"And I suppose you think you're gonna be the one who sleeps up here with me?" Amara cocked an eyebrow at her boyfriend.
"No," Kai answered flatly. "Maybe you should move downstairs and share of the other rooms with one of the girls or one of them can come up and sleep here with you."
"I guess," Amara agreed. She couldn't help but stare at Kai.
As always he was looking irresistible. His blue-gray hair fell into that natural just out of bed look that was just begging to be touched. The red shirt that he was wearing seemed to curve to all the right places, showing off the muscles on his arms and his six-pack stomach.
"You're staring at me."
"Thank you captain obvious," Amara grinned, placing a quick kiss on his lips.
"I don't mind," Kai smirked.
Amara smacked him in the arm. "Come on Mister Arrogant, let's go find everyone else." Amara jumped of the bed and extended her hand for Kai to take. He willingly accepted it and allowed himself to be led out of the room.
"Where is everybody?" Amara whimpered looking around the empty kitchen.
"Down at the lake," Kai answered.
"Well let's go," Amara smiled. "I'll just change." She ran back upstairs leaving Kai standing alone in the kitchen. He took a pool cue off the rack and started to play by himself. After ten minutes of waiting and no word from Amara, Kai decided to check on her.
"Ams…" The door flew open before Kai could finish. Amara stood their dressed in a brown triangle bikini with pink Hawaiian flowers looking a little annoyed.
"Never trust Kiki to pack your bag for you," she grumbled brushing past him to the stairs. Kai followed, chuckling at her outrage.
Instead of going out the door to the lake, Amara stormed into the rooms in the back of the house that belonged to one of the other girls. Kai could hear her mumbling to herself as she rummaged for something. She finally emerged wearing pink board shorts to cover the bikini bottoms. With a towel in hand, Amara finally looked ready to go.
"What?" Amara snapped slightly at Kai when she realized he was staring at her.
"Why are you pissed?" Kai asked a little confused.
"I can't go out in this," Amara motioned to the tiny bikini top. "I'm gonna pop out of the bloody thing."
"Well try to play nice and you won't have that problem," Kai smirked, putting an arm around her waist. "I think you look beautiful." He placed a kiss on her temple.
"You know that means other guys are gonna think the same thing?"
"I can't stop them from thinking it but I can sure stop them from acting on that." Amara smiled at Kai's possessiveness.
"Am I supposed to think that's endearing?" Amara asked. They walked down the path that led from the house to the beach, Kai's arm around Amara's waist.
"I didn't think that you would." Kai shrugged.
They finally reached the sandy beach and looked around for any recognizable faces. Amara noticed Tala's red hair right away even though he was far away from her on the dock with all the other guys and Jules. After that it didn't take long for her to locate Kiki who was lounging in a chair sun tanning. Mico and Cat were lying on a beach blanket beside Kiki. Amara and Kai walked over to them hand in hand.
"It's about time you two got here," Kiki scolded from her seat in the sand. Her red bikini, which was similar in style to the one Amara was wear, was still completely dry. She tipped her sunglasses down and eyed her best friend. "Nice suit Ams."
"Yeah I can thank you for this can't I?" Amara sighed dropping her towel beside Kiki and discarding her flip-flops.
"Actually I think Kai should be thanking me." Kiki smirked at him.
"Leave them alone Keeks," Cat spoke up from her spot on the beach blanket.
"What?!?! Every guy deserves to see his girl friend in a bikini," Kiki concluded as if it were the most rational thought in the world. "Especially when she can pull it off."
"Whatever Keeks," Amara rolled her eyes. "I'm going in the water now. Anyone want to join me?"
"Sure," Cat stood up and placed her sunglasses down on the blanket. " I think I've fried enough for one day."
"Mico? Kiki? Kai?"
"I think I'll come too," Mico nodded standing with the other two girls.
"No other takers?" Cat tried again. "Alright ladies lets hit the water." Kai watched the three girls walk away to join the rest of their group on the dock.
"You don't want to throw your girlfriend in the water?" Kiki spoke up pulling Kai's attention away from Amara's shrinking figure.
"No, I have a feeling the other guys can take care of it." Kai took a seat on the blanket that Cat and Mico had just vacated.
"Aren't you hot wearing that shirt?" Kai smirked slightly. Some things never change.
"No mother, I'm fine."
Kiki scowled at his reply. "I know about the scars on your back. They can't be that bad."
"Personally I don't want to be showing them off to the whole beach thanks," Kai answered with finality in his voice. He thought Kiki would drop the subject but he knew her too well.
"I wanna see." She tugged at the hem of his shirt. Knowing he wouldn't hear the end of it unless he let her see, Kai allowed her to pull up the back of his shirt.
"Kiki why are you taking Kai's clothes off?" Max gave her a quizzical look. Rei, and Tyson weren't far behind. Tyson's mouth fell open when he saw his girlfriend.
"Don't pout Tyson, I just wanted to see the new scars on his back," Kiki rebuked her boyfriend.
"I wasn't pouting," Tyson retorted defensively as all eyes turned to him.
"Are you happy now?" Kai tugged his shirt back down.
"That must have hurt," Kiki said softly.
"Yes it did," Kai said.
"What Kai really mean is 'drop it Kiki'" Max said, receiving a glare from Kiki.
"Hey guys, I hate to break up the glaring contest here but something doesn't look good down there," Rei's concern caused the rest of them to look down at the dock.
There was a fight on the dock and it looked like Amara was in the middle of it.

Scarlet Witch41: Cultus Lake is in BC, it's about an hour and a half drive from where the story is taking place right now which is in Vancouver. Amara lives in Vancouver in case you forgot. Cultus Lake is only 15 minutes from my house but that's cuz I live an hour away from Vancouver. Anyways thanks for the review ;)
