Chapter 14: Midnight Swim

"Ouch," Amara heard Cat moan from somewhere behind her. "I think I broke my toe."
"Careful," Amara called back to her in a singsong voice. Finally the girls reached the clearing of the beach. The moonlight reflected on the water giving them some light. No one was on the water making it look like black glass.
"Well what are we waiting for?" Jules hissed quietly trying not to ruin the perfect silence as they all stood there staring out at the lake.
"I don't know," Mico whispered back.
"Shhhh," Amara put her finger to her lips. "I'm trying to admire it." The girls moved closer so the water gentle lapped at their toes.
"Frick that's cold," Kiki whimpered withdrawing her toes from the water's touch. They stood there in silence for a few minutes more before their male counterparts broke it.
The guys rushed down the sand and upon seeing the girls standing on the water's edge decided that they needed to be in the water. So as they went in the water themselves they took a girl with them. Before the girls knew what was happening the guys had them in the water.
"I'm going to kill you Tyson!" Kiki roared as she surfaced. She jumped on the male in front of her and dunked him. She held him under for a moment then let him come up for air.
"I'm not Tyson!" he sputtered.
"Whoops sorry Max," Kiki apologized. "Thought you were Tyson."
"Yeah I know," he groaned. "Tyson's still sleeping, we could get him to wake up." Kiki rolled her eyes, typical Tyson.
"Well you still deserved that," Kiki replied haughtily. "You shouldn't dunk people unsuspectingly."
"Oh really?" Kiki heard someone say behind her and before she could turn around and see who it was she felt herself being pushed under the water again. Thus the water fight began. Without really knowing who anyone was the girls just shoved anyone near them under the water. Of course the guys fought back.
Amara quietly snuck up onto the dock away from the dunking and splashing. She stood in safety watching her friends. She loved that everyone was back together and happy, well except for Jules and Tala but she knew they would work it all out soon. Of course they would just end up being broken up like Amara and Kai so that Kai and Jules could be married. Amara frowned at the though. She had just gotten him back and now she was going to lose him again, it just wasn't fair.
"You're thinking hard," Kai came up behind her wrapping his arms around her waist. He planted a gentle kiss on her neck. Amara relaxed against his chest keeping her eyes on her friends in the water.
"Is it so hard for you to believe that I actually am capable of thought?" Amara teased trying to lighten the mood.
"No," Amara could practically feel him smirk as he kissed her just behind the ear. "I'm more afraid of what you're capable of."
"Hmmm, is that why you're not in the water?"
"No," he replied letting silence fall between them. "I just thought if I was going in that you should be with me."
Amara opened her mouth to say something and didn't close it fast enough leaving her with a mouth full of lake water. After Kai had spoken he moved to jump into the lake and pulled Amara with him before she even knew what was happening.
"You jerk," Amara swatted Kai once she had surfaced.
"Thought you needed to cool off," Kai laughed. Amara glared at him treading water since he had thrown them off the deeper part of the dock.
"Ahhh!" Amara yelped jumping onto Kai's back and wrapping her legs around his torso. Sudden addition of weight caused Kai to go under the water further. He tried his best to swim further in so he could at least stand since it didn't seem like Amara was going to get off him any time soon.
"What's the matter?" Kai finally asked her once he could touch the sandy lake bottom.
"Something touched my foot," Amara pouted. "I don't like lakes."
"You poor baby," Kai replied with mock sympathy. Amara rested her head on his shoulder. "You're gonna make me carry you aren't you?"
"How sweet of you to offer," Amara smiled her voice very close to his ear. Kai just shook his head at her. Amara lifted her head off his shoulder and leaned off him a bit. He felt her finger trace along the design of his tattoo. "When did you get it?" It was a simple question no accusation just simple curiosity.
"After I left you," there was no missing the pain in his voice.
"It's beautiful," Amara, breathed her finger still tracing its fiery design. "Chosen after Dranzer I'm assuming?"
"Yes." Kai felt her finger trace over the 'A' medallion that hung from the phoenix's beak. "And you."
"Me? What does it have to do with me?" Amara asked, her brow furrowed with confusion. Again her fingers traced over the 'A'. "I kinda assumed the 'A' was for me but what else?"
"Yes the 'A' is for you," Kai smiled. He pulled Amara to his front so he could see her face. Her legs were still wrapped tightly around his waist. There was no way her feet were going to touch anything slimy on the lake floor. Kai brushed a few fly away strands of red hair out of her eyes. "And the fiery color reminded me of your spirit and your hair color."
Amara's lips quirked into a half grin. She hadn't been wearing her hair up in two buns half as much as she did before he had left her. Most of the time she wore her long locks down which was now falling past her butt. Right now she had quickly tied the mass of hair in a messy bun on top of her head.
"I think it's beautiful," Amara leaned forward so her nose was touching his.
"I think you're beautiful," Kai said before capturing her lips with his. Amara wrapped her arms tighter around his neck. Kai brought his hands up so they rested in her hair gently pulling it out of the loose bun. The intensity of the kiss sent a shiver down Amara's spine. How was she going to give him up?

"Die Valkov," Jules shrieked jumping on Tala's shoulders trying with all her strength to dunk him.
"Nice try sweetheart," Tala smirked standing up even taller. Jules tried again and surprised Tala by staying on his back.
"You've tired me out," she yawned wrapping her arms around his neck and resting her head on his shoulder.
"Comfy?" Tala quirked an eyebrow trying to crane is neck enough to look at her.
"Yes, actually I am," Jules smiled, tightening her grip on his shoulders. She let her eyes close letting herself enjoy his closeness. It was as if she could just fall asleep on his back right there in the water.
"Jules?"
"Yeah?"
"Mind clearing something up for me?"
"Not at all. What is it?" the small brunette asked nuzzling her head on his neck to make herself more comfortable.
"Weren't you not talking to me about four hours ago and now you're acting as if you never told me…let me just emphasize that you told me… to stay away from you," Tala said feeling rather annoyed that he couldn't see her reaction.
As if reading his thoughts Jules slid off his back and stood in the water in front of him. Jules bit her lip nervously. She wanted an opportunity to tell Tala that she liked him; she just didn't think it would come so fast.
"I'm sorry," she replied, scolding herself in her head for the lame start. She kept her emerald eyes on the water instead of looking at him. "I didn't mean to be so harsh earlier. I just didn't want you to think that I was some kind of floozy because I let you kiss me so easily before." Jules paused feeling the need to look at him. His expression was thoughtful but it gave nothing away. "I didn't want you to hurt me."
"I never thought you were a 'floozy'," Tala told her, his turquoise eyes locked on hers. "And I'm sorry for just kissing you like that. I kinda acted on instinct. I really liked you and I didn't mean for you to think any less of yourself." He scratched his head not really sure what else to say. All he could really hope for was for her to believe him.
"You liked me?" Jules eyes widened slightly. Tala couldn't help but smile at the bewildered look on her face.
"Is that so hard for you to believe?" Tala chuckled; he put his arms around her waist and pulled her a little closer.
"Kinda." Even in the poor light Tala could see her blush.
"Well I did and still do." Tala looked into her eyes and waited for a reaction. Part of his was afraid that she would pull away and become distant once again. Instead she left him a little speechless.
"Can I kiss you?" the question was sweet and innocent, her eyes never leaving his. Tala didn't answer with words. He simply bent his head closer to hers and waited for her to come to him since she was the one who asked for the kiss. The kiss was sweet and short just like the one they had shared a few days before.
"Amara will never let me hear the end of this if they catch us," Jules smirked. Tala leaned in and rested his forehead against hers.
"I don't really care do you?"
"No."
Tala smirked at the petite brunette and moved in to capture her lips with his once again.

BRRRRRIIIIIIIING! BRRRRRIIIIIIIIIING!
"Phone," Amara grumbled slowly being woken up from her sleepy state by the shrill ring.
BRRRRRIIIIIIIIING!
Amara moved to get the phone but Kai was holding on her waist rather securely.
"Don't go," he groaned into the back of her neck. "Someone else will get it." Amara had fallen asleep in Kai's arms curled up on the couch. She didn't want to leave the warmth of his nearness either but it didn't' seem like anyone else was planning on picking it up.
"I'll be quick," Amara dislodged her body from his grip and kissed him quickly on the cheek. She picked up the phone on about the tenth ring. "Persistent little bugger." Amara hissed before hitting the 'talk' switch on the portable phone. "Hello?" Amara waited for the voice on the other line to reply.
After the call was over Amara walked back to the couch but didn't crawl beside Kai right away. She looked at his still sleeping form. Their time together was running out and she knew that. He on the other hand did not. As much as it was going to kill her to leave him she knew it was for the best right now.
Amara couldn't bring herself to go back to the comfort of his arms, she wouldn't allow herself the pleasure of him. Instead she headed upstairs to her bathroom and to have a shower before her meeting.

There it is…chapter 14. Hope that's not too much of a cliffie for ya. I don't think there will be a sequel to this story but I posted a new story with a whole new plot line but it still has some very familiar OCS…it's called Never Forgotten. I will continue to update this story until it's finished so don't worry I'm not abandoning this one at all. Anyways please read and review.

Ramen II: It is fun to swim early in the morning, I have actually never done it but it seems like fun so I thought I would add it in there. I agree girl talk can be scary if you're not one of the girls who are in on it…guys beware. I think Tala will like the outcome of the girl talk though since the girls kinda talked Jules into admitting her feelings to him. Don't worry the story won't end too fast there's still about four chapters or so left I would say. And there's always my new story which you have already reviewed (thanks). Hope you like this chapter and I'll have the new one up as soon as I can.
