Chapter 15: The Meeting

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Amara had a quick shower to wash her hair since it was starting to smell like a mix of hospital and lake water. After her shower she got dressed in a pair of jean shorts and blue football jersey shirt that had been reworked to fit to her body shape. She ran a brush through her long wet hair and decided to let it fall free.

When she got downstairs, Kai was still curled up on the couch fast asleep. Amara smiled. He looked so sweet and peaceful with his hair falling in his face. She wanted nothing more than to curl back up beside him but if she did that she would never want to get up and this meeting was important. She also knew that if she woke him up and told her where she was going that he wouldn't let her go or insist that he go with her and then it would never work. Tala was the only person she could take with her. Amara ventured down to the basement to find him.

"Tala?" Amara knocked on the bedroom door that he was suppose to be sleeping in. "Tala, can I talk to you for a minute?"

There was some shuffling and then the door opened. Tala's usually perfect hair was completely disheveling looking a lot like how Kai wore his every day. He was also shirtless wearing nothing but a pair of black boxer shorts.

"Morning," Amara smiled hoping that he wasn't going to bite her head off for waking him up.

"Morning," Tala groaned in reply. He rubbed the sleep out of his turquoise eyes. "What's up?"

"I need you to come with me to the Cultus Lake Café," Amara replied peering into the room behind him.

"Why?" Tala seemed to notice that she was staring into the room and closed the door leaving just enough room for his body.

"I have to meet someone there and they said that I either come alone or bring you with me," Amara eyed him curiously wondering why he was blocking her view of the room behind him. He spoke moving her attention back to him.

"Kai can't go with you?"

"No and I don't want him to know about this either," Amara said her expression serious. "You have to promise me that you won't tell him."

"Amara if this is important then I have to tell him."

"Tala please," she begged him. "This is between us and they asked for you by name. I think you need to hear this too."

"Why do I have a feeling I'm not going to like what I have to hear?" Tala grumbled feeling himself cave in to what the small red head was asking of him.

" Don't worry, I have a feeling I'm not going to enjoy this either," Amara sighed her eyes downcast. She wouldn't cry not yet anyway.

Tala put a hand on her shoulder. "Just let me get dressed and we'll go okay?" Amara looked up into Tala's turquoise eyes. He gave her a reassuring smile, which she weakly returned.

"Oh and let her sleep a little longer. It's best that she doesn't know about this either," Amara said before walking back upstairs.

Tala nodded and then closed the door.

Amara found herself drawn back to the couch where Kai was sleeping while she waited for Tala. The last thing she wanted was to disturb him but he looked so peaceful it was hard to stay away. She sat on the floor in front of the couch and gently brushed the blue-gray hair out of his eyes. Her finger ran from his forehead to his cheek and down his jaw line. His skin was warm and soft. She let her finger touch his lips, which curved into a small smile under her soft touch.

A moment later she could hear footsteps on the stairs and she knew it was Tala coming up to get her. She moved onto her knees and kissed his forehead.

"I love you," she whispered softly and kissed him again.

Amara got up and met Tala at the door. They silently put on their shoes and walked out to Amara's car.

They were suppose to be at the Cultus Lake Café at 11:15 but if Amara brought anyone else other than Tala there would be no meeting.

The café was set up like a retro diner. There were booths along a wall of windows and then a long bar with bar stools. There were a few other people in the café. Some people were seated at the bar and an older couple occupied one of the booths. Amara and Tala found a booth and waited for the other party to join them.

"Are you gonna explain any of this to me?" Tala asked rubbing his hands nervously.

"No," Amara answered flatly. "You gonna explain you and Jules? "

"I could but you'll probably hear it all from her later," Tala replied with a smirk. "Time for another girl talk I'm sure."

"Most definitely," Amara returned the smile. "But I'm very interested in hearing what you have to say." Amara leaned forward resting her chin on her hands.

"We admitted to liking each other," Tala said with a shrug. "There's nothing more to tell really."

"Did you two sleep together last night?"

"Did you and Kai sleep together last night?" Tala shot back his tone light.

"No, we fell asleep on the couch," Amara answered quickly having nothing to hide.

"Same, except we didn't fall asleep on the couch," he said with a smile. Amara shook her head and smiled. She was convinced that she would get more detail out of Jules and of course she was going to ask her.

"Can I get you two anything?" the young waitress chirped breaking up the conversation between the two teens.

"We'll have a round of Cokes and three Cultus burgers," a cheerful voice answered.

"Alright I'll get that for you," the waitress smiled at the lady behind her.

Lady Catherine smiled at took a seat beside Tala in the booth. Her bodyguard took a seat at the bar but kept his eye on them.

"Morning madam," Amara greeted her with a courteous smile.

"How good to see you again, Amara, dear," the old lady said beaming at her. "I told you I would see you again."

"I'm very happy to see you too but for some reason I doubt I'm going to like what you have to say," Amara replied quietly.

"You're very suspicious aren't you?" Amara nodded. "Well you have full right to be since you know I wouldn't bother you young people unless something was wrong." Again Amara nodded.

"It's Voltaire isn't it?"

"And three Cokes," the perky waitress interrupted Amara's question to put the tall glasses of the carbonated beverage in front of each of them.

"Yes, I'm afraid it is," Lady Catherine replied gravely once the waitress had left them again. "He's not a happy man right now. He thinks Kai has run away and he's blaming you."

"Didn't you tell him that he didn't?"

"I did. I had to remind him that this trip was meant to be a reward for Kai, a chance for him to have fun before being weighed down with all the responsibility that will come his way once he is married and my title is passed on to him."

Tala sat back with his Coke and listened to the conversation. Kai hadn't told him much about the wedding details or anything about being handed at title. Kai might have never told him about the engagement if Amara hadn't have shown up out of nowhere and disrupted everything.

"But he'll blame me anyway since he already sees me as a threat," Amara huffed leaning back in her seat.

"You are a threat though. You're the one thing that will make Kai turn this all down," Lady Catherine replied.

"And three Cultus burgers," the waitress returned again this time to give them their food. Amara didn't feel much like eating but she still picked up a fry as she thought through everything she had just heard.

"Are you saying you want Kai and me apart?" Amara asked the older woman.

"I thought I had already made things clear about my feelings towards your relationship with my great grandson," Lady Catherine replied taking a fork and knife to the hamburger in front of her. Amara nodded.

"Why is it such a big deal to Voltaire that Kai receive this title? It's not like he'll get anything out of it, right?" Tala asked finally finding his voice. Lady Catherine turned and looked at the young man sitting on her right.

"Ah, young Master Valkov, you are the other threat."

"What?" Tala gave the older woman a look of complete confusion.

"You captured the young lady's heart and now she might reconsider her part in this. That's why I came to talk to you two. Voltaire is going to try something. It might be sooner rather than later but I need your help."

"Our help?" Tala raised an eyebrow. "What can we do to help?"

"You want us to leave," Amara said bitterly not making eye contact with the older woman. It wasn't a question it was a statement. It was the one thing Amara feared. She knew it was something that was likely to happen but now that it could become a reality she was starting to feel sick to her stomach.

Lady Catherine nodded.

"Hello?" Amara called into the house. "Where is everybody?"

"Where have you been?" Kai stood in the doorway across from her. He looked less than please but Amara could see some relief in his eyes.

"Grocery shopping," Amara smiled giving him a quick kiss on the cheek as she walked passed to put the plastic bags on the counter.

"Why didn't you tell me or leave a note or something?" Kai asked following her into the kitchen.

"You were sound asleep," Amara shrugged putting some things in the fridge. "And besides I wasn't alone." Kai's brows shot up. "Tala was with me."

"A little help here," Tala called from the door. His hands were full of bags and he was having trouble opening the door. Kai moved to help his friend.

"What did you two do buy out the whole store?" Kai chuckled not offering to help Tala with the bags.

"This is all her doing," Tala grumbled dropping the bags rather hard on the large table. "Something about making a special dinner or some crap like that."

"Well food sounds good but why didn't you guys tell anyone you were leaving?"

"Would you calm down," Amara sighed leaving the groceries and moving to comfort him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close. "It's not the end of the world and we made it home just fine."

"I know but…" Amara cut him off by kissing him.

"And they're at it again," Tala groaned and went out on the deck to find the others.

"Please stop worrying," Amara sighed her lips still very close to his.

"If I stop worrying then I know something bad will happen," he replied sadly. Amara smiled and pulled his lips back to hers. Her fingers dove into his unruly hair cupping the back of his neck deepening the kiss. Kai wrapped his arms around her waist and held her close losing himself in her.

He didn't know how right he was. Amara knew he had some right in worrying but she didn't want to let him know that. She just wanted to enjoy their time together.

"You're doing it again," Kai broke off the kiss and stared into her eyes.

"Doing what?" Amara moved to place soft kisses along his jaw line. She didn't like the look in his eyes.

"Kissing me like you're never going to see me again." His words made her stop. Amara pulled back and looked at him. His expression was impossible to read. His tone wasn't accusing but she knew there was something under it something she couldn't make out.

"What are you talking about? How do you kiss a person like you're never going to see them again?" Amara knew what he meant but she figured playing dumb about it might help ease his suspicions.

"I know you want me," Kai smirked evilly and Amara couldn't help but playfully smack him in the arm. "But this isn't your typical 'I want you' kiss" Kai's eyes darkened.

"Since when did you become a kissing expert?" Amara asked a small smile playing across her lips.

"I'm not. I'm just saying that you're kissing me as if I'm going to die tomorrow. I'm not going to die tomorrow am I?" His tone lightened a little but he was still being slightly serious.

"Not that I know of," Amara smiled thoughtfully. "But with our luck in the past I don't want to risk it."

"I'm not going anywhere," Kai smiled gently brushing her hair back from her face. He cupped her face in his hands and pulled her to him. Amara willingly kissed him back. He was right but at the same time very wrong.

Tala found the others down by the lake. Kiki and Cat were spread out on beach towels while everyone else seemed to be in the water.

"And where have you been?" Kiki looked up at him over the rim of her sunglasses.

"Grocery shopping," Tala, answered flatly scanning the water for a certain brunette. There she was trying her best to run away from Max and Rei in the water. A sad smile crept across his features as he watched her dodge them shrieking and laughing the entire time.

"I see," Kiki smirked her eyes following his.

Jules came running up the beach to where they had thrown all their clothes and towels. She was still laughing but suddenly she stopped when she saw him there. Tala was standing in the sand just staring at her. Jules smiled and grabbed her towel to try and dry her hair.

"Hey you," Jules greeted him with a huge smile. "Where have you been?" She smiled poking him playfully in the chest.

Tala caught Jules off guard when he grabbed her hand and held it close to his chest where she had poked him. There was something about the way he was staring at her with those amazing turquoise eyes that was unnerving to her. Something wasn't right; Jules could feel it.

"Tala?"

kitty-girl1:Thanks for the review ;)

ragam: I agree Jules is confusing but relationships and feelings can be confusing. The arranged marriage is not forgotten it's coming. The swim was supposed to be a thing with all of them. Do you want to see more of Rei??? I'm sorry he kinda fell into the back ground after Tala and Jules came on the scene. Thanks for the review

Ramen II: Sorry was that a cliffhanger??? I seem to be confusing myself of what is and what isn't…sorry bout that. Anyways it is not a stupid question about the phone call but I deliberately left you all in the dark about who was on the phone…setting it all up for this chapter. I'm so happy that you're enjoying my story that much…I think this one is my favorite but then again my new one could become my new favorite…lol. The Tala/Jules set up was sweet and I wanted Kai and Amara to be a little more funny since they've had their serious romance parts before and believe me there will be more…lol Thanks for the great review.

eyes-on-paradise: Wow you've read all my stories!!! I'm honored. I'm sorry there's not going to be a sequel to this sequel but I'm working on 'Never Forgotten' which is another Kai/Amara fic. I have no problem with you using Jules' outfit, it's nice that you want to use it. It kinda just popped into my head while I was typing the chapter. So go ahead and use it. I'm glad you asked…I'm always more willing to share when someone asks lol… well thanks for the great review and enjoy the chapter.

konfizkate91: Trying to see if I'd give anything away about Amara and Kai…you'll have to wait like everyone else but I can see that in some ways you think like me…lol. That's okay that you didn't review the first chapter of Never Forgotten but I know that you've at least read it and I'm sure you'll review when you find the time. Thanks for the review ;)

Sara: Well there's no point in answering your question about who she met with since I'm sure you already read the chapter by now…lol. Voltaire is going to make his return into the picture soon as I'm sure you picked up from the conversation. I like the dunking part too…its just something you do when you're in water. And romance is always good ;) Thanks for the review
