Chapter 21: White Wedding
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
"How am I supposed to see through all of this?" Jules grumbled from underneath the thick layers of her veil. All she could see was the rough outlines of people. The details were blurred.
It was the evening before the wedding and for some reason the dressmakers had called a last minute fitting, which Jules was not in the mood for. She was still trying to get over the fact that she was marrying the guy she didn't love and that her best friend was now dead. A late night fitting was not what she needed.
"It is tradition that the groom doesn't see the bride's face until he raises the veil to kiss her," one of the ladies replied. "It's all very romantic."
"Right…" Jules drawled.
" And besides, darling, your father leads you down the aisle," another one of the three dressmakers surrounding Jules answered in a 'duh' tone. "You don't need to see."
"Of course not, my mistake," Jules sighed, rolling her eyes knowing they couldn't see.
Jules' dress was traditional white silk. The bodice was an off the shoulder corset that laced up in the back. The skirt was full and a little poofy much to Jules dislike. It also had a ten-foot train. The dress was also accented with dark blue along the neckline and the train. The blue matched the blue of the bridesmaid's dresses. The bridesmaids wore simple strapless floor length dresses. The only accent on the dress was the small strip of shimmering lace under the breasts.
"You look absolutely lovely, my dear," Lady Catherine said. She had been watching quietly from the doorway. "Kai won't know what hit him tomorrow."

"Two minutes gentlemen," the wedding planner stuck her head into the room off the sanctuary where the guy's of the wedding party were getting ready.
"You ready?" Rei asked Kai.
Rei was standing in as Kai's best man. Tyson, Max, and Kenny were the other groomsmen. They were all dressed in traditional black tuxes with white button up shirts. They're vests were the same dark blue as the bridesmaids.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Kai replied rising to leave with the others. The five guys filed out to stand at the front of the sanctuary.
Kai let his eyes scan over the hundreds of guests. He recognized only Jules' parents on the bride's side. Even on his own side he knew only a few of the people. Most of them were business relations of his grandfather's. Soon his eyes found a familiar red head.
Tala's bright red hair was hard to miss. Sitting next to him was his mother. Mrs. Valkov had the same flaming red hair as her son. One glance and you knew the two were related. On Tala's other side was a girl about his age with hair as pink as Tala's was red. The pink haired girl was Mariah, Rei's girlfriend.
"Mariah is sitting with Tala?" Kai thought to himself but loud enough for Rei to hear.
"Yeah, since I'm up here I asked Valkov to sit with her since she doesn't really know anyone else here," Rei whispered his eyes locked on his girlfriend.
"Makes sense."
The music changed and the doors at the back of the sanctuary opened. A white light filled the space. The bridesmaids seemed to come out of nowhere. First came Mico, followed by Kiki then Cat. The maid of honor, Jules cousin Beth, came last. Again the music changed, this time to the wedding march.
Jules was led by her father down the aisle towards the rest of the wedding party. Kai kept his eyes on her even though he couldn't see hers. He just knew that she was looking at him too. Finally she was in front of him. Her father put her hand in Kai's and then took his seat beside his wife. Kai and Jules turned to face the preacher.
"We are gathered here today to join these two young people, in the eyes of God and these witnesses, in the Holy bond of matrimony," the preacher began. "Is there anyone here who has a reason why these two should not be joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace?"
Utter silence cloaked the room. No one dared to say anything. All the guests knew the circumstances of the marriage and even if they did have something against it wouldn't say anything for fear of Voltaire Hiwatari. Still everyone waited with baited breath for someone to defy him.
"Moving right along then," the preacher said flipping open his book to begin the vows.
"WAIT!"
An audible gasp filled the large auditorium. Everyone began to glance around frantically for the owner of the voice.
"I LOVE HER!" All eyes fell on Tala Valkov who was now standing up and shouting. "I LOVE HER!" He pointed at the bride.
"Tala James Valkov!" Mrs. Valkov hissed, her face slowly becoming as red as her hair. "Sit down right now."
Instead of sitting Tala made his way up to the front where the waiting couple was standing.
"I love you Jules," Tala said again taking her hand in his.
"Tala…" she whispered sadly.
"Guards! Get that boy out of here!" Voltaire shouted. Immediately four guards came from all sides to remove Tala.
"Wait!" Jules shouted blocking Tala. The guards all halted in mid stride. "Let me talk to him." Jules grabbed Tala by the arm and lead him to the room where the men of the bridal party had gotten ready.
"Tala, please don't do this," she pleaded once the door was closed behind them.
"But Jules, I love you…I always did. I was just too stupid to say it before," he begged taking both her hands in his.
"I know…I know, but it's too late," she gently cupped his cheek in her hand. "I have to marry Kai."
000000
Quiet whispers filled the sanctuary as they all waited for Jules and Tala to return. Finally they reemerged. Tala silently took his seat again while Jules returned to the front to stand with Kai.
"Let us continue then," the preacher began after a quick nod from the bride. "Do you Jules Amalia Hamilton take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and to cherish in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?"
"I do."
"And do you Kai Damien Hiwatari take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and to cherish in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?"
"I do."
"The rings please." Rei past Kai the ring for Jules, while Beth past Jules the ring for Kai. "Repeat after me." The preacher said to Kai. "With this ring I thee wed."
"With this ring I thee wed," Kai repeated placing the white gold, diamond and sapphire ring on Jules' ring finger.
The preacher then had Jules do the same thing for Kai. "With the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Kai's heart lurched against his ribs. He knew the kiss was coming but still he wasn't prepared. But still he reached forward to raise the veil that hid his bride's face.
"Kai wait," Jules asked quietly putting her hands on his arms to stop him. " There's something I want to say first."
She let go of his arms and reached under the veil herself. Kai assumed she was wiping away tears. After a quiet minute, Jules took one of Kai's hands in hers and laid his palm flat and then placed her other hand over it. She dropped something into his hand. Kai looked down to see what it was. Her necklace lay in his hand. It was a simple blue ribbon with a large flower off to one side. He had seen something like it before.
"I love you, Kai," the voice from under the veil said. The Russian accent was gone. There was something hauntingly familiar about that voice.
Kai's eyes grew round and his mouth dropped ever so slightly. He slowly reached forward to lift the veil again. Praying in his head that he hadn't been hearing things. Kai's silver eyes collided with a pair cool blue.
"Hi." She said almost shyly.
He slowly raised his hand to touch her cheek still unsure if he was seeing what his heart wanted him to. His cold fingers connected with the warm skin of her cheek and he pulled away as if he had been burnt.
"I'm real Kai," Amara spoke no louder than a whisper a small smile creeping onto her lips.
Kai still didn't say anything he only continued to stare in shock at the girl before him. It was Amara, from what he could see anyway. There was only one-way to be sure. Again Kai raised his hand to her face this time cupping her cheek, while the other went around her waist and pulled her against him. He brought her lips to his. Soft, warm, and perfectly against his own. All the doubts in Kai's mind floated away, while he drowned his sorrows in her kiss.
Kai pulled back and hugged her. "It's really you." He sounded more like a child then the strong young man he really was. "You…you…died?"
"I should have died," she said somewhat bitterly.
"You're supposed to be dead!" Voltaire's angry voice filled the hushed sanctuary. Everyone's attention turned from the young couple to the old man standing near the back.
"Yes, well next time you should hire better minions," Amara replied calmly an edge obvious in her voice. "All they did was torch my stuff."
"I'll just have to remedy their little mistake," Voltaire sneered exposing the gun he had been hiding in his jacket pocket. "I should have done this earlier. Could have saved us all from this little annoyance."
"You plan to shoot me in front of hundreds of people and get away with it?" Amara questioned haughtily. "You have a little more guts then I thought."
"Go to Hell you little bitch!" Voltaire growled. Something in him seemed to snap by her words. He raised the gun up and pointed it straight at the bride. All the guests dropped to the floor.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The ring of the gunshots filled the church. Shortly after the sound of a limp body hitting the cold floor.
Amara waited to the feeling of the bullet penetrating her body but it never came. She had closed her eyes before the gun went off. Then it dawned on her. Kai! She slowly opened her eyes. Sure enough Kai was positioned in front of her ready to take the bullet but he was fine. His attention was focused on something in front of him.
Amara stepped around to stand beside him. Voltaire lay face down on the aisle. A visible bullet holes beginning to bleed on his back. A man stood at the back of the group lowering his gun and holding up a badge.
"CIA," the man said walking down the aisle towards Voltaire's motionless body. "Everyone remain calm." About twenty other men came from all directions and began to lead people out of the building.
The wedding party just stood at the front, all completely stunned. All the guys had protectively moved towards their girlfriends.
"Someone will be in to talk to you guys in a minute," one of the CIA men said stepping towards the group gathered on the steps. Kai nodded and then turned to say something to Amara but he was cut off.
"AMS!" Kiki shrieked pulling away from Tyson to embrace her friend. "You're alive!" Soon all the girls were crowded around the red head. Kai stood back and took in their beaming faces, Amara's in particular.
"Okay, if that's Ams, where's Jules?" Tala asked looking completely lost.
"Well, nice to see you too." Amara stepped forward to stand in front of him a knowing smile spread across her face.
"Sorry Ams," Tala said and offered her a hug. "I'm just a little confused."
"No really?" Amara mocked stepping back from him.
"You mean Tala wasn't in on all this?" Kai asked. Amara shook her head. "So his little outburst was real?"
"Yuppers," Amara smiled. "He had no idea."
"Are you going to tell me where she is?" Tala begged. Amara gave him a coy smile.
"Stop being an evil little woman and tell the poor guy where she is," Kai said into Amara's ear from behind.
"Turn around," Amara shrugged snuggling her back against Kai's chest as he wrapped his arms around her waist. She wanted a comfortable view to watch the reunion of her friends.
Tala did as he was told and his eye's skimmed over the pink haired girl that had been sitting beside him during the service.
"Mariah?" Everyone in the group looked even more confused than Tala. Except for Amara of course, she knew what she was doing.
"You're just being mean now," Tala whimpered turning back to Amara's still beaming face. "That's Rei's…"
Tala was abruptly interrupted when he was whipped around to again face the pink haired girl and kissed square on the mouth. Tala's initial reaction was to pull away. This was Rei's girlfriend after all but she was kissing him right in front of Rei. Something just wasn't right, Tala thought as he continued to accept the kiss. Slowly it dawned on him. He had kissed these lips before yet he had never kissed Mariah.
"Jules!" Tala said pulling back.
"Took you long enough," she smirked and pulled his lips back to hers.
"So where's the real Mariah?" Tyson asked as they all stood back and stared at the kissing couple.
"Back at the hotel still," Amara smiled. "The real Mariah Ling never left the hotel this morning."
"Come on guys can you at least take off the pink wig?" Rei groaned. "It's really starting to creep me out." Everyone laughed.
"I think someone has so major explaining to do," Cat said staring at her cousin.
"She's right," the rest of the concurred.
"Oh yeah, that," Amara chuckled. "I'm kinda back from the dead aren't I?"
"Yeah just a little," Nicholai replied.
"Okay the story is simple enough but you might want to sit down," Amara tilted her chin to look up at Kai. He nodded and they all sat down on the steps. "As you all know I've been 'hiding out' since I left the cabin. I've come and gone from Tala's place and basically been globe trotting."
"But why? Why didn't you just go home? I think Kai would have gotten the hint," the ever-blunt Kiki butted in.
"Kai wasn't the person I was really hiding from," Amara replied calmly. "I had it from a very reliable source that someone had put a mark on my head."
"Who was it? Who was your source?" Tyson interrupted excitement evident in his voice. He sounded like a child.
"Well maybe if you guys would stop interrupting Amara could finish," Kai said with a pointed look at Tyson.
"Right, moving on then," Amara smiled loving every new minute with her friends. "The last time I came to see Tala I had a feeling that they were close. I didn't stay long and left a few instructions to Tala if I was killed." Amara looked at Kai when she said this. She knew he had read the letter. "Sure enough the next day I was supposedly killed in a car fire. They thought I died because they found remnants of my possessions but no other strong evidence."
"Why did they set off the bomb if you weren't actually in the vehicle?" Rei asked ignoring Kai's warning for them not to cut in.
"It must have been on a timer of sorts and it went off before Amara was in the car and on her way," Kenny concluded for them all.
"That's the theory, Ken," Amara said. "I had stepped back out of the taxi to get a picture that had fallen out of my pocket. I noticed it at the last second and jumped out. I sure flew with that blast though, which meant I was far enough away from the car when the crowds came along with the cops."
"How did you get here though?" Kai asked.
"Like she said before." The group turned to face the new voice. "It pays to have connections." Lady Catherine was walking down the aisle towards the group on the stairs. A smile passed between her and Amara.
"You helped her?" Kai questioned, looking stunned for the fifth time or so that day.
"Of course," she beamed. "I was not going to let Voltaire get away with killing her and forcing you to marry someone you didn't love."
"So Voltaire was the one out to get her?" Tala inquired noticing that Kai was too shocked to speak.
"Yes," she answered. "I've known for some time what a horrible man Voltaire Hiwatari was. Since he was always above the law, I hoped one day I could catch him in some scandal and have it all over and done with."
"So that's it then? Grandfather is gone," Kai stated the realisation finally dawning on him.
"Yes, Kai," Lady Catherine said putting a reasurring hand on his shoulder. "You're free to do whatever you please, which I hope will include a proper wedding to this young lady."
"You mean I still inherit everything? Even though I didn't marry Jules?"
"Arranged marriages are fine and dandy but when you already have the love of your life." Lady Catherine smiled at Amara. "There's no need for it. You have the right to marry whom ever you choose and still keep the inheritence I promised you."
"Well, I think that means we have to have a real wedding," Kai said taking Amara in his arms and pulling her close.
"Maybe one where you actually can see who you're marrying," Amara replied looping her arms around his neck.
"Anything works for me," Kai said before closing the gap between them and covering her lips with his.

A Few Years Later
"Kai, come here," Amara Hiwatari called up the stairs to her husband.
"What is it? What's wrong?" the slate haired young man was at the top of the spiral staircase in an instant. "Is it the baby? Do you need to sit down?" He spouted off questions as he raced down towards her.
"Would you stop that," she snapped running a hand over her ever-expanding belly. "You're driving me crazy with all your worrying. What happened to the guy who didn't care about anybody?" Amara smirked and stuck her tongue out a little at him.
"He met the most beautiful girl in the world and got married," Kai answered with a straight face. He moved closer and wrapped his arms around her pregnant belly.
"Well aren't you a good suck up," Amara chuckled and kissed him quickly on the cheek before pulling away. "Anyways, I was trying to tell you…before you freaked out…that we got another postcard from the Valkovs."
"Really? And where are the newlyweds now?"
"Paris." Amara showed him the picture of the Eiffel Tower all lit up.
Hey Hiwatari's,
We're doing great! Hope you are too. You better not have that baby before we get back. We're going to Ireland for a short bit and then to Venice and then we'll be back. Can't wait to see you both.
Love you and miss you
Love Tala and Jules Valkov
"Aww, that's so sweet," Amara smiled and put the postcard down on the table and continued to flip through the mail.
"How much longer are they planning on being gone? You're only six months," Kai said re reading the postcard for himself.
"Well, have you looked at me lately? I'm huge." Amara turned to the side to give him the full view.
"I look at you all the time and I don't think you're huge." He kissed her forehead.
"You have to say that," she huffed. "You're my husband."
"I think you're even more beautiful now then you were the day I married you."
"Honey, are you drunk?" Amara's sapphire eyes narrowed.
"Can't a guy be nice?" he growled in his throat.
"Sorry baby, hormones you know," Amara cupped his face in her hands and kissed him.
"Right."
"Ooo look! A wedding invitation." Amara picked up the envelope.
"Who this time?"
Kai could have sworn everyone was married by now. There had been basically one wedding after another in their group. First Kenny and Mico, then Kiki and Tyson, Jules and Tala, Rei and Mariah, Max and Emily. Who could possibly be left?
"Nicholai and Cat!" Amara shrieked. "It's about bloody time."
"When's the wedding?"
"Not till July."
"Isn't your due date in July?" Kai asked becoming the worried husband again.
"Yeah early July," Amara shrugged. "The wedding isn't till the 30th."
"That means the baby will be here."
"Yeah, so?" Amara raised an eyebrow. "Is there something wrong with that?"
"No," he said taking her hands in his. His voice sounded like he was thinking about something else. "I just can't wrap my head around the fact that we'll have a baby with us. It seems so much closer."
"Actually, honey, we'll have two babies with us," Amara confessed biting her lip for his reply.
"Two…" Kai repeated letting her words sink in. Suddenly it dawned on him. They were having twins. "That's great! When did you find out?"
"Yesterday."
"Oh babe, that's great," he said kissing her soundly on the mouth. He pulled back and looked at her. "I love you, Mrs. Hiwatari."
Amara wrapped her arms around his neck as best she could with her expanded belly. Understanding what she was trying to do, Kai leaned down and put his lips to hers.
"I know you do," Amara smiled back and leaned in for another kiss. "And I love you, Mr. Hiwatari."

Paris Super Girls: Yeah happy endings. I'm glad it caught you by surprise though…that's what I wanted…I never thought that she could have been crying over Tala though good idea. No more arranged marriages…yeahness. And Tala did get to express his love in the end. Thanks for the review.
Moonlight Kitten: Sorry I made you cry. I hope they were good tears. I love happy endings so this story had to have one. Thanks for the review.

Rampant Chaos: Thanks for reviewing…I'm glad you like my stuff so much. That feeling you had was right…Amara wasn't really dead.

konfizkate91: You know you were right lol…Amara wasn't dead. Thanks for reviewing.
Blackraven-Ling: She wasn't dead. Thanks for the review.
renahiwatari: Good guess but not quite the way I decided to work it. Your theory about the cars and the motorbikes makes sense but remember I also said that she got her driver's license and could drive a car at the beginning of this story. She overcame her fear of vehicles. So the story of the smashed up car was plausible. Good theory though…I never really thought of that…good idea and you were right she was alive the whole time. Thanks for the review.
Tikytikytavvi101: I hope this ending was the happy type ending you were hoping for…it makes me happy lol. Thanks for reviewing.
