The small bar in Tortuga was bustling with activity around the two men seated at the small table. Both were several drinks beyond sobriety, and seemed completely oblivious to their surroundings. To the casual observer, they seemed to be in serious conversation. In fact, they were, though not the sort one would imagine.
"About this girl, mate…" Jack began, eyes closely watching his companion's face for reaction. "You say you are willing to die for her. Why would that be, exactly?"
Will considered him or a moment before answering. Just how much of his secret could he trust Jack Sparrow - I Captain /I Jack Sparrow – with? Thoughts of the man before him ran through his mind in quick succession, and he decided to take a chance. "Elizabeth is like a sister to me, " he said quietly. "The only family I have, after my parents were taken from me."
Jack, for his part, latched onto one word. "Sister? Ah, so it is that you've yet to find yourself a girl, then."
Will slowly shook his head. A small voice in his head screamed at him to keep his mouth shut, not to reveal the secret he'd kept for so long, but he ignored it. "No, that's not it at all."
"So I was correct in assuming that you have found a girl, but are otherwise incapable of wooing said strumpet." Jack chuckled.
Will's face turned a bit pink in the dim light. "No….and, yes. No, I have found no girl. Yes, in a manner of speaking, I would be incapable of wooing any female."
"And why is that?" Jack asked, voice filled with curiosity, and perhaps, a bit of hope.
Still refusing to look at Jack, for fear of having misread his companion, Will spoke again. "Women do not interest me at all. I find myself more interested in men."
His eyes still averted, Will missed the small smile of triumph that played across Jack's face at that. Perhaps, Jack thought, this trip just became more interesting, after all.
