Something You Should Know
There are some things that are better left unsaid.
You've heard that phrase so many times in your life but only NOW are you actually starting to realise its truth. It's scary really, because all your life you believed in telling the truth and not hiding things from your friends and family. But now you know, the truth won't always help.
There are some things that they'll never understand.
Its terrifying really because you have never EVER been scared like this. Not scared of what people might think or say, that just isn't you. You've seen too much of the pain and suffering that the world can offer to be afraid of things that seem so trivial. And yet, here you are, terrified. And you know that you should be stronger than this, braver than this, that you should be able to face your fears. But this time it's so different that you've felt before. This time the danger of getting hurt seems so real.
There are some things they'll never want to hear.
You know that sometimes words can do the most damage. They can ruin something that violence never could. Words wield great power in a world like yours, where your actions are your duty. So you convince yourself that there are words that you can never say. Not out loud at least. But in your head you scream those words over and over, willing yourself to say them just once. To overcome the fear and the trepidation. To stop convincing yourself that its wrong and to just tell the truth, no matter what the consequences.
So you brace yourself and look her in the eyes, trying to not get distracted by the big grin on her face.
'Faith?'
She looks deep into your eyes.
'Yeah B?' she asks, wrapping her arms tighter around your waist and pulling you closer so you're mere inches from her face. Your courage fails and your eyes fall to the floor. You just can't look her in the eye as you say it.
'I…I love you' and you look up at her and the grin is gone. But you see her eyes are smiling so you continue.
'I love you and I want them all to know it'
You see a brief flash of that same fear in her eyes but then she's smiling again, grinning from ear to ear. And you realise that you're not a fool coz it frightens her too.
So you prepare to say those words that you have feared Saying from the very start. But its ok now because she's right beside you, holding your hand. And expectant eyes look up at you as you clear your throat.
