This is a poem I wrote. It is Legolas speaking to... no-one, really, before he plans to leave Middle Earth. Kinda long for a poem, but oh well. Hope you like it. I've had great success with Explain To Me and All Through The Night, and I hope I'll get the same kind of responses for this one.

Never Forget

As I walk the empty forest road, I hear... nothing

Their is no sound of the Elves any more,

because I am the only one left

I stayed for I loved this earth,

stayed because I loved its people,

I stayed because I could not bare to leave,

but always the cry of the gull tore at my heart

They have all left here, my people

Not wanting to spend eternity here, they left,

the call of the sea proving to great to bare

I too must now leave this land,

for I have no more reason to stay

All I ever loved..., is gone, all save the trees

How I will leave this land is unknown to me,

the thought being to much to grasp

Yet I must face the truth,

I cannot stay

Why I even stayed as long as I did is a mystery to me'

no one cares for a wandering elf any more

No one would even notice me if I spoke to them

I have heard many stories of the Elves, of me,

for that is all we are anymore, stories of a forgotten race

They are stories of how we were once the fairest beings to walk the earth,

stories of how after the war, we just... left

Only the old ones pay me respect, knowing of my name,

knowing of what I did,

of how I helped to rid the world of evil

They pay respect to those that fell in the battle,

and to those fair beings who simply walked the earth,

but once they pass, who will care?

I now must leave these forests, once great kingdoms

I now leave them to the hands of men

I place a hand on the bark of a old tree and speak

"Do not let them forget us." I say "I wont." it answers

As I cross the sea and leave this earth,

I can only hope we will not become a memory, known only to the trees

I hope the children will keep our spirits alive

I hope the world never forgets,

ever
