In Element
Water. He had never like it, and now, with no land in sight, it was becoming downright unbearable. They had been sailing, if you could call it that, since Lemurian ships had no sails, for eight days now, with only the occasional monster attack providing any real outlet for all the pent-up energy inside him, clawing to get out.
Everyone else seemed to be at ease, even though it seemed impossible to him that anyone could enjoy the monotonous schedule of life at sea. So everyone was talking comfortably together while he stood alone, apart, different.
Water. It was definitely not his element. He had tried to find something, anything to take his mind of his current predicament, but the only thing for miles was the spectacular sight of Gaia Falls. So he spend hours staring at the falls, watching all the ocean's water spill over the edge of Weyard, countless drops never to be seen again.
What was there, he mused, past the falls, over the falls, beneath the falls. This thought gnawed at him day after day, drawing all his attention to it. Was there nothing, only a vast, empty space with Weyard just floating there, slowly consuming itself? Was there another world there with whole new countries, cultures, and people? Was it a have for the Summons, who lay peacefully slumbering until the time came for them to be called upon? Was it where the souls of people went after life left them?
Maybe, when all this was over, and the threat of Weyard's destruction had been lifted, he could find out what lay past Gaia Falls. He could find a bout, and brave the oceans one last time to reach the edge of the earth, the edge of his home. And once the boat lurched over the edge, careening out of control, spinning down to who knows what, he could finally find what lay down there, he could finally put his question to rest.
Maybe, just maybe, water could be his element after all.
