Adelinda Rose Branch stormed down the hall toward her father's office. She could the people around her talking about the cases they were prosecuting. As she passed the secretary's desk she gave a small smile.
'Yes, he's in."
Adelinda flung the door of her father's office open. She stepped in and noticed he was meeting with Jack McCoy. They were both looking at her.
"Addie, you could have knocked."
"Good-morning, Ads"
"Oh SHUT-UP!"
She went to her father's desk, slammed her hands down on it, and stared him straight in the eyes.
"Do you realize what you've done?"
Her voice was bordering nonchalant. She was extremely angered, but she didn't want to show it.
"You got me fired! The university no longer wants me to teach. They say I might send the wrong message. I know that's a load of bullshit. They knew I was gay when I was first hired. They decided to fire me because you fired Serena. They thought that if you could her, then they could fire me."
She smiled and got her face closer to her father's.
"Why did you lie to Serena?"
He was taken aback, as was Jack.
"I didn't"
"So you didn't tell her that her being a lesbian was not the reason she was fired?"
"I had other reasons for firing her."
He grabbed her wrist to calm her down, but was only successful in giving her another bruise. She struggled so hard that he feared he would break her tiny wrist, so he let go.
"Like firing her because she's my lover. Oh, wait, that would be firing her because she's a lesbian."
She noticed the look on her father's face. It was that look he gave when he was being arrogant. This made her blood boil.
"YOU BLOODY BASTARD!"
She smacked him hard. Jack tried to hold her back, but she hit him.
"Stay out of this! You may have been a co-conspirator, but he made the final decision."
She thought for a moment while the men recovered from the shock she just laid on them.
"You know what; I don't think we should talk about this anymore. Maybe we should part our ways. I don't want to see either of you anymore."
She pulled out a letter from her coat pocket and placed it on the corner of the desk.
"This is from Serena. I thought I would give it to you, so you could see the effects of your decision."
She started to walk away, but stopped near the doorway. She turned to look at the two men. She was visibly holding back her tears.
"You shouldn't have lied; she called your bluff anyway.
She walked away, this time not stopping, not even to say goodbye to her two best friends, Alex and Casey.
Tears streamed down her face as she walked out to a waiting taxi. The door opened and she slowly got in.
"I gave them the letter. Now everything is taken care of. Are you ready to go home?"
